problem with my rc car
hi,
just for any rc car boffins out there. ive just bought a carson first rc go kart its petrol and it wont start for anything ive took the glow plug out and burned fuel off but nothing just got glow charger on charge any help will be appriecated
first thing, remove the glow plug and plug it into the starter and make sure it is glowing, then turn the engine a few times with it out to get any fuel out, finally if it doesnt start then make sure its getting fuel and again if not the only thing i can think of is mixture.

i dont know much about nitros, ive personally only run electric but know a bit about nitros from being round them
Are you priming it before using it? To do this (when cold, obviously so you dont burn yourself), put one finger over the exhaust tailpipe, and then turn the engine over slowly until you see some fuel going through the lines. Then stick the glow plug on it for about 10 seconds, then try and start it. Also try and have the wheels off the ground when doing this.

Another little tip. If your trying to start it in very cold weather like were having today, put the RC car ontop of a radiator for about 10 minutes. This will warm up the internals of the engine and warm the fuel, thus making it easier to start.
at ma carson petrol car i put for new setings: air-fuel erm sticks^^ complete in but SLOW and SOFT! and then make them two 2complete 360° out then i works for me perfect ps: at the start u need to give full throtle
So its better to make it with 2persons :P

CARSON FTW + LFS

doh forgot about priming, yh you have to prime em most of the time

that what comes of not havong owned one just helping someone out when they were diagnosing a problem

Yes. You have to prime them if they have'nt been used for a couple of hours.

*another little tip* To BRT: If its still not starting, take the air filter off, and put ONE drop into the Carb. Then try again.
Bump start FTW! :drink:

Pump some fuel in. My freind has one and never does that and he's like "faking start u hoe".

Use the throttle trim as a choke as well.
try heating up the engine with a hair dryer.
just got in from school tried to start it ono look i toke low plug off and pulled pull cord to check fuel is coming through anf it i put glow plug back in put glow started on it and call pull the card its so stiff and when i do pull it it doesnt start
If you take the spark plug off and start it until fuel comes out of the cylinder... then put the plug back and it's very hard to pull the starter, this might be because there is too much fuel in the cylinder. Try to unscrew the plug a little bit in that case... then pull the starter a few times, screw the plug back in, and try again.

Also try to take the plug out, and test it with the glower. Does it function? It should give you a nice orange glow. If the glower is too strong, it'll glow like crazy... if it's too weak, it'll glow just a little.

Also make sure that you adjust the fuel mixture needle according to the manual of your RC car. If you haven't checked yet, try it.

Another thing mentioned is to open the throttle a little (it doesn't have to be fully opened as somebody mentioned, but try to open it a little while using the starter, then a little more...

Nitro engines can be a pain to start the first time. It can take some time and it is highly recommended to not do it alone (because it's much easier with a little help). Do you have somebody who could assist you?

PS: Your posts are a real pain to read... how about you at least try to use punctuation and maybe re-read your post and fix a few spelling mistakes here and there before you actually hit the submit button?
yes, when i take my glow plug out and put it in the warmer it does glow quite well. i do have a friend and we couldn't start it yesterday.

Just as an example... i just did a quick search. I'm sure you can find lots of tutorials on youtube if you search a little.

It's kind of hard to tell what is the problem. Because we can't see what you are doing wrong maybe. So it might actually help you more if you watch videos... read tips on how to break in an engine (use google), etc.

Good luck!
Is it possible that the oils in the fuel have gummed up the rotating assembly to a point where it won't turn over?

The oils in the fuel have gummed up?!
Never heard something like that. And i've had nitro RC cars since more than ten years now.

If it won't turn anymore when trying to use the starter, it's either too much fuel in the cylinder, or the piston is blocked in the cylinder (can happen with new engines, they are made like that... so there's not too much tolerance after the breaking in is finished). If the piston is blocked... take a small wooden stick (a clean one!), unscrew the spark plug and stick it inside the cylinder until you touch the piston from above, then take a light hammer, and CAREFULLY hit the stick a little until the piston isn't blocked in the cylinder anymore... remeber to do this CAREFULLY and without much force!
i can see the piston moving when i remove the plug
In that case you have a fuel lock, where the chamber is filling with fuel and the starter cannot bring the piston up to send it down the exhaust.

The mixture is likely too rich. Try turning the big needle on the carb out 1/8 a turn (otherwise known as a high-speed needle, main fuel mixture adjustment). Only tiny adjustment are necessary.
i say throw it in the bin, ive got a HPI RS4 and its the biggest pile of money eating rubbish ive ever seen. The other day i lost a screw out of where the manifold joins the engine block and it will cost me £25 for a whole set of screws just to get that one screw.
Hehe, mine came loose too, lock-tite FTW.

lol try having one of the blocks that hold your rear suspension arms come loose int he middle of a race:

seval things happen:

the screw damages the carpet you are racing on
the lower wishbone comes off making the wheel collase
you loose the little shims that position the arms

this was on my tc4 ft electric tc i used to race, used to have a hell of a trouble with lootening screws

I bet the companies who sell RC cars are all laughing about the people who give them their money. It's one of the most overpriced hobbies you can have. The cars itself sometimes seem to be a good deal, but things will break eventually. However, that's not a secret... you should be aware of it when you decide to buy an RC car (or plane, whatever).

That makes no sense. Are you saying that Carson is a good R/C brand? I find it one of the worse things I've seen. I had multiple on road Carson's, rubbish. I like my serpent alot more.
this is the car. im going to take it back to the shop tomorrow

hmm... my bro is a pro at this (that rhymed for a little bit). I only have an electric RC. A Traxxas Rustler. I bought it from my brother, and he jumped over a truck with it. But, I sold some of the parts, and now it only has the body, the wheels, the chassis, the suspension, and my motor.
hi ive managed to get it started atround first time past few weeks but my switch has gone in my receiver so i have to plug the battery in directy but i sort of accidently left fuel in a few nights ago and now my pullstart is stuck solid and so is my throttle what can i do to loosen them
