My last Radeon was a X800 Pro, didn't have any trouble with it, or the 9600XT before it. I'm going by what I hear, mostly on forums for games that I play. Most people "know" about ATI's issues with drivers, and I certainly won't argue the point.
If you want to be nasty about it and make assumptions, great, that's a fine use of the internet, and some good insight into the type of person you are.
