let off the gas when you shift.

And lift the gas off also when you are in the air (jumping).

Do you drive with xfg?
I'm pretty fast in this combo and i can race a lot laps flatshifting and full throttle in air. Imo in this combo it's all about gears ratio and places where you change gears.
Maybe tomorrow I'll try to make setup for xfg with closer ratios for less advanced racers.

What is this lift off the gas when in the air thing? I've seen it mentioned before. Is it because the wheels are rotating faster in the air than landing, or is it a bug?

its like you wrote, the wheels speed up in the air and are suddenly decelerated when you regain contact, lots of stress for the clutch, I think its worst in the RB4 (the only time I got a red clutch in race was during Bump&Jump races)

Does using the handbrake stress the clutch (in the RB4)?

I never really face any problems with a red clutch, I guess I'm just good.
