Judging by the look of it, it resembles Google Gadgets, but if you look on his system tray there's the Windows Gadgets icon, so he's not using the Google one.

To get more gadgets, open the "Gadgets" window on Windows Gadgets and click "Get more gadgets online", or click this link to go to the website.

Here is my current desktop in Windows 7. After a few weeks of use its working like a charm. I made a dual-boot between XP and W7 but I think I'm regretting it now - I simply have no reason to use XP any more.

The new taskbar is pretty damn sweet too
