..until my Xbox ****ed up.
I was playing Fifa 09 online when suddenly the screen went very distorted and greeny, i thought it was the AV connecter so give it a push and a wiggle... nothing so i think to myself... "restart it, it'll be reet!"

It begins to restart i wait in anticipation for everything to be running smoothly again.... our survey says... eheeeeeeeeeeeerr!

I get a message in numerous languages all saying "System error contact MS customer support" and at the bottom a big E74 which i gathered was the error code.
And the 4th Red light flashing.

And to add salt to the wounds just yesterday i renewed my Gold membership to Xbox Live :o

Anyway i googled about error codes etc...
and this is what i found

E74: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see error 0102)


It tells me to see error (0102)
But if you read the site it tells you how to get your code (by pressing the wireless sync button and eject, but mine came back with 1012... maybe my mistake


anyway im going to borrow my mates AV cable and try that if that doesnt work.... how long does an Xbox Warranty last?
I Bought my Xbox around 2 years go but after a few months of having the 1st one.. had it replaced as the 1st 1 kept over heating, so really i've had this Xbox for 18 months or so... but actually bought the 1st around 2 or so years ago...

Anyone know if ill get a brand spanker or will i have to fork out repare costs... or buy another...

with the warrenty it depends on the company, some do it from when you bought the original some from when you got the replacement but being microsoft i suspect it probably is from when you bought the first one.

all these probablem the xbox has is the reason i bought a ps3 lol

as for the xbox live, have a moan to microsoft especcially if it is still in warranty and you maybe be lucky and get a free subscription for a while

Xbox's have a 3 year warranty now, but E74 is unfixable unless you take the Xbox apart. Same happened to me, i just went and bought a new one because ive heard of some people sending their 360's into MS and getting a different one back.

After i bought my new one i took my old one apart. And unless you have all the correct tools and a 1.5mm torques screw driver thing then you wont have much luck getting it apart.

My dad took my old one apart for fun when it broke.

I just rang MS they wont cover it cos its not 3 red flashing lights its only one.... and tey want 78 pounds to repair it.. hahahahahaha you can get a brand new one for 100 on ebay... idiots...

I cant belive they will cover one error but not another...

what the **** that says it all really, it shouldnt matter which error or how many read lights, its gone wrong and its under warrenty, end of

You didn't buy it off Microsoft (I assume), therefore they have no obligation to repair it for you. Go back to the place you bought it from.

thank god my xbox havent gone dead yet. but i assume that as soon as i buy gta iv lost and damned and im just downloaded it it gets dead and somehow i manage to lose the recepiet so i cant have warranty replacement

and hence the reason i bought a Ps3

agree with magot, ps3 online doesnt suck on the pure basis you dont have to pay a stupid subscription to use it

but xbox live has WAYYY more features.

And it is way easier to navigate

i dont care, i would rather have a system that allows you to play online and has a few feature but is free than some fancy system that you have to bloody subscribe too

ive got a 360 and a PS3 and the PS3 isnt used at all

i got an elite and had the same problem. I just lied to them and said it had the RROD. They picked mine up and got it repaired. While i was waiting, i bought another elite and used that. Then when my repaired one came back, i flogged it off to a mate with a few of my old games for £200. All in all, it only cost me about £50!

Oh, and you should have told them you got RROD. They give you a fresh 2 year warranty if you do.
