HELP - New AGP card!
Hello all,

I have a old PC that I want to restore only to play LFS.

This system is a P4 3.0Ghz with 2GB RAM but the graphics card is old, is a FX5200 AGP.

So, I am planning to buy a new graphics card and I have been looking for this one GeForce AGP 6200 256Mb DDR2 from XFX.

I just want to know if this graphics card is enouth to play LFS with 60+FPS?

Thanks in advance,
no the 6200 is basically a rebadged 5200. Steer well clear.

I would reccomend for AGP an ATI 3850 or 3650.
I would reccomend an nVidia 7600GS 256mb. I've got one in my spare computer, also with a P4 2.8ghz and 512mb ram, and it runs LFS at 50-60 fps online at 1280x1024 (60hz) with 8xAA and 8xAF.

You can pick one up for around £50 new.
Thanks for the reply!!!

But the Asus ATI Radeon AGP H3650 Silent 512Mb DDR2 HDMI cost 75€, in Portugal...

Thanks
Even a 6800 GS/GT will do the job just fine. Look for one on ebay. Will cost you next to nothing.

(I have Athlon64 3200+, 1 gig ram and 6800GS. @1280x1024, 4xAA 16xAF, Every hi res texture i can find for LFS installed and it never drops below the 60FPS i have it locked at)
If you want a good cheap card, find a second-hand ATi 9800 Pro. My last PC had one, ran LFS at around 50-100FPS with hi-res and 4xAA, 4xAF, using a 2.6Ghz P4. There's new ones on Ebay for less than €50

oh the joys of running at lower resolutions.......i remember those. 1680x1050 really eats into your FPS (but not enough to stop you playing any games/sims)
I'm running a ATI radeon hd2600 pro which is a 512mb AGP version and with all graphics settings on medium in the card settings and everything on half in LFS, it looks fairly good and i get a comfortable 40 to 50 fps depending how busy a server is.

If theres like 20+ people i get the odd drop in fps (usually first corner) but it is usually fine after that.

My card cost me about £30 on ebay brand new and sealed about 9 months back.
I'm running a saphhire Radeon HD2600 AGP Pro 512mb, Its in a 3.2ghz P4HT rig with 2gb of ram.

I can run everything high with 8xAA and 8xAF and never go below 60fps, this is with high res textures and a resolution of 1280x1024. I can go up to a higher resolution and it will only drop below 60fps with a full grid.

I never run LFS on high settings though, I'm not a graphics junkie.
Hello and thanks for all the replies,

I think the Radeon HD2600 AGP Pro 512mb its a good choice considering my system...

I want to play in 1024x768 because of the monitor...

I was searching the web and I found a ASUS H3450/HTP 256MB DDR2 AGP... What do you think about this?

Just to update, my system is:
P4 3.0Ghz FSB 800Mhz
2GB RAM
Geforce FX5200 128 - I guess...
Quote from ars_pt :P4 3.0Ghz FSB 800Mhz
2GB RAM
Geforce FX5200 128

i had almost the same setup, tho i had an PCI-E slot, so i had an EN7300GT in it

but yeah, the hd2600 aint a bad card..
Hello all,

I have just bought a used GigaByte 7600GS 256MB for 36€ in Portugal...

Thank you all for the help and replies.

Adelmo.
