car insurance
ive just had a look on a couple of the comparison sites and to hypethetically(sp) insure my car as if i had just passed my test on tpf&t the lowest quote i got was from ecar and was £3000 ish with no excess although you cant seem to change that with them

do you think this is about useual for a 1.4 corsa sport or xould i get it a bit lower lol
try Quinns of NI: http://www.quinn-direct.com/uk/

they are the loonies that quoted Emmy £600 F/C on the Swifty @17 with a provisional license!

I wont suggest Swiftcover.com; they wanted a whopping £124 to insure my 2ltr Coupe fully comp! (for me, that is! )
lol, i had a Cavalier Sri 16v 3 months after passing my test and that was only £1100

Did the comparison website include Admiral? They were the cheapest when I started looking for insurance.
think it may have been but ill give em another look

edit: just had a look and they want 4400, tbh i also thnk putting my occupation as a mechanic(which i hope will be the case by then) dont help
Quote from J@tko :Yep, they do that then rack it right up when you pass your test, so I've heard

you heard wrong......Most of the guys at work have their sons/daughters insured through them..including an 18 yr old with an XR3i and a 20 yr old with a 2.2 Cavalier...and THEY never got a hike in costs when they passed.

Admiral were invariably the cheapest insurer when I was looking (with my new license and 0NCB) on the price comparison sites.
However, both Adrian Flux and Sky Insurance undercut them by a couple of hundred quid when I called them up. They both specialise in young drivers (and modified cars) and are worth checking out. I understand Flux used to be great but apparently have gone downhill over the last few years. I was pretty happy with my Sky quote, hence the reason they're my insurer now
i just had a look throgh adrian flux, and the gave me a norwhich union quote of 2200, so it getting lower lol

it will be better nearer the time when i can give them real details lol
Putting mechanic as your job will inflate the quote - they are a 'high risk' occupation.
You say that this is planned, not actual. You should always give accurate data, if you purposely give wrong info then the insurance could be invalid in the event of a claim.

I find the comparison sites are useless.
I much prefer phoning the major companies, as these are generally resold by the smaller brokers with a bit added on.

You could try adding your mum as a named driver, this has reduced some peoples quotes as it is sort-of assumed that as a named driver, she will be doing half of the driving. This is different than 'fronting', where the insurance and car is in her name and you are just a named driver who is in fact doing the majority (if not all) of the driving.
lol stuart im putting in false details as i dont turn 17 till november but already have the car. and as for adding my mum we were just talking about that because here car may have to go and we may end up sharing the car anyway

Yes, that's a good point. My quote dropped almost £1000 (seriously!) by adding my parents as named drivers to my policy. They have both used the car (my mum uses it at least once a week and my dad probably uses it once a month or so) and having them on the policy means they could use it in the event of an emergency (like driving you to hospital or picking you up from a mate's house) even if they don't use the car regularly.
blimey amp will have to do that then

When you pas your test they are likely to put your costs up - it was just over a grand for me on my car with a provisional, but when I passed my test they wanted an extra £964 from me...

Insurance is expensive for new/young drivers, and quite rightly so, seeing as they are more likely to have/cause and accident.

The only thing I can suggest, is getting the smallest, cheapest, lowest insurance group car, and drive that for a couple of years, not only will this give you experiance, 2 years NCB, it will be slow enough not to get into any real trouble, and it will be also cheaper to run.

As for fronting, be very, VERY careful, because although it seems good at the time, insurance companies aren't stupid, and if you have an accident on a fronted policy, not only will you not be insured, you'll also likely be done for fraud, they are very hot on fronting nowadays.

Even in my day insurance for young-uns was extortionate, but it doesn't take long for it to drop, mine is only £90 a year now fully comp!!!!!

Quinn are still the cheapest (at least for me) - but asking £964 on the day you pass your test puts a damper on things :P
There was a guy on radio 1 yesterday talking about getting the cheapest car insurance deals. The first thing he said was use atleast 3 differn't comparison websites as some of them favour some companys more than others.

Then when you find your cheapest quote go directly to that site and enter your details because the comparisons sites will add some on.

Then when you've found your cheapest quote go to a cashback website and buy it through that and you could get money back through that.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cashback-websites

I was quite surprised to hear about this cashback thing, but you should read into it and how it works, it's quite interesting.

Btw, i'm with elephant and this was my first year on my own policy for a 1.4 Mk4 golf and it's £750 for a 10 month policy, it was the cheapest I could find and I get 1 years no claims 2 months earlier.

Buying a cheap, small car (especially if it's older) could be a bad move because they're generally less safe in the case of an accident than larger cars. I think most people would rather pay a few hundred quid a year more than be killed or seriously injured in a collision.

Or, you can do what most young lads do, ignore my post, buy a sporty car, pay out the arse for insurance, wrap it round a tree, and end up out of pocket and making up the shortfall for years to come

Don't crash then

TBH, the "safety bubble" that most people feel when driving a larger car, is probably a big factor in most driving accidents, just because they are driving a big(er) ncap 5* car, they drive in a lackadasical manner.

I still think the best thing for road safety would be a large, 6 inch spike protruding from the steering column, bet people would drive safely then
Quote from danowat :Don't crash then

Problem with that is you don't have any control over the other idiots on the road.

I wrote my first car off when someone turned directly across my path without indicating when I was doing about 25mph. There was nothing I could have done to stop the accident. I'm lucky it was only at 25mph because after seeing the damage caused at that speed I was hardly filled with confidence. My car was a 2001/2002 Clio.
well tbh stuart its not right to pigeon hole every young driver based on statistics, im not your useual nutcase and really the corsa sprts aint that quick, more nippy. as for crash safety the sports are alot better than say a similar age ls becasue it has driver airbag and seat belt pretentioners, another reason for buying the car.

exactly as amp said about other drivers, when i decide to modify a car the first things im gonna do are gonne be a rollcage, bucket seats and 5 point harnesses and big brakes

ow and if anyone wants to see the car click the link in my sig
