Question about stolen cars...
No, im not gonna act like a chav and ask "how do i break dis blak box in dis car i stolez itz a tuff job innit", its just something i have always wondered about.

Let me set the scene. Its 4am, and your awake, lets say watching TV. You hear someone outside your house. You have a look, and see someone driving off in your car. You pursue them (lets say you have a 2nd car) and chase after them. Obviously, while doing this you would have rang the police, explained the situation etc. You want to keep up with your car as much as you can until a police car catches up and takes over. Now, i know cars can be replaced unlike your life, but we all love our pride and joy.

So, my question is, what would happen if you flew through speed camera's setting them off? I know that if your car get's stolen, you can claim not to get fined/points on your licence as your car was declared stolen so you was not driving at the time. But, what would happen to you, the pursuing driver? Would you also be let off the hook because your chasing a crook, or would you get the full points/ban scenario?

Sorry for the random question, just my curiousity kicking in.

Well taking the law into yer own hands is generally forwned upon, and thats what you would be doing basically, and well speeding is breaking the law and putting others and yourself uneccessarily at risk, which is a bit naughty too.

One stolen speeding car is a bit less dangerous than 2 speeding cars, one chasing.
What about the third car who was filming it

How come the police don't understand that?

Hey they aren't as bad as the american police who will total your car

Well police drivers do get a bit of training (I hope) before they're allowed to go chasing after naughty people in cars, whereas the average guy off the street probrably hasnt got the same level of experience and so is probrably just as dangerous as the man who stole his other car.

No offence, but if your not gonna post anything useful then please refrain from posting.

Thanks for the comments guys, keep em coming
You'd have to pay the fine and accept the points, there's no way you'd get let off. Two wrongs don't make a right etc.

What if it was your only car so you stole your neighbour's car to pursue the thief, you wouldn't expect to get let off then would you?

That doesn't really matter, the stolen car will be driven harder and faster because the police are chasing it, so any training the police have is cancelled out by the nutter in the car they are chasing. The training just means they can control the car better at high speed, but it doesn't make it any safer when they have a mechanical failure.

If you watch the TV shows about traffic police you will have noticed they use helicopters more often now. If they could follow the suspects without chasing them then that's the best thing for everyone. Back on topic, you would get the speeding fines, and deserve them for being so wreckless.

Well yar, still, a nutter in a car being chased by a chopper is probrably slightly less risky than a nutter in a car being chased by another nutter.

Depends on the nutter I guess.
I really don't think you'd get away with it as a civvie. You're still breaking the law regardless of your motive. Assuming you did do this and nothing bad happened then they might go easy on you but I doubt the police/courts would like to set a precedent for vigilante car mobs!

If you were a off duty police driver in such a situation then you might be able to get away with it but I think they may still take a dim view of taking chase in a completely unmarked vehicle without any sirens or any kind of light arrangement.

This is true.

I remember watching one of the shows, road wars i think it was, and the policeman on there said that if someone has stolen a car then a police coptor can follow, moniter, and direct officers on the ground to the car from that far away that the car thief wouldnt even be able to see it because its cameras have such long range on them.
Even if you had a 2nd car, personally i would just let them go and get caught by the professionals (if you can call the police that). And of course you wouldnt get away with chasing them.
If you chased someone who had stolen your car I hope you would get done for wreckless driving, wreckless endangerment, driving without due care and attention, speeding and whatever else they could throw at you. I can't think of many more idiotic things to do.

What if he pulls out a knife or a gun and kills you. Then he's got 2 of your cars and no-one can report his description to the police.

What if you have an even bigger gun / knife? Then you have your car back and the bastard who took it. albeit a bit more dead than when he took your car
I'd just let them get off with it... one lost car is better than a possible two...

Unless someone took my bike.. then yes, I'd either kill them or beat them to the point where I would be dragged off them by the police when a member of the public rang them when they say me take a bat to someone's face..

Damn, so much stupidity in one post.

If you're doing this to antagonise me or anyone else then it's not worth it. If you're doing it because you honestly believe if then I really hope you don't ever get your car stolen.
My dad had his car stolen in the middle of the night about, woah, 15 years back now, dad reported it at 6am when he got up for work and found it gone.

The police finally arrived on the friday evening (the car was reported stolen on the wednesday morning), the 2 coppers that came looked like they didnt really care, as from how my dad tells it, they had that 'got better things to do' kind of attitude.

They said they would keep us updated and tell us if they found it, all the usual bollocks that they say etc... but it turned out that we did a better job than they could manage as we had the weekend to drive around looking for it in mums car!

After about 4 hours into the search we went around a bend, and lo and behold, there was dads green mk2 escort, parked on the verge with practically no damage apart from a ripped out petrol cap and broken drivers door lock.

We got my uncle to bring the car home on his transporter, and once we were home my dad called the police again to ask if they had found it or anything.

They said that there had been no sign of it at all, despite the fact that we deliberately drove past a police station with the car on the back of the transporter just to see if they would notice, plus 2 police cars left the police station as we sat at traffic lights just outside it, they failed to see it as well.

Imagine their surprise when we told them not to bother looking anymore as we had found it ourselves.

IMO, some of the coppers i have seen could not organise their own shit into the pan without a guided map, so we'd best do what we can ourselves, screw relying on them, apart from of course, a speeding ticket if you do 34mph in a 30, then they'll be everywhere.
That's exactly what's wrong with the police system....

What, that they don't spend time getting every officer to memorise every single car that's reported stolen so they can spot it on sight?
