COD4 on Veteran: WTF!
Just finished Call of Duty 4's single-player campaign. Having felt very confident of my fps fragging abilities, I chose to do it (at my first attempt) on Veteran. Never again!

WTF is with the devs making it so flipping frustrating? I appreciate a good challenge, but some of the missions were just insane. It felt like I was doing parade drills rather than playing a game: shoot, die, restart, shoot, die, restart, shoot, die, restart x100. When the difficulty selection menu said: "Veteran: You will not survive", it was right! Perhaps it's easier on consoles with auto-aim. On PC, it's an exercise in anger management.

The last stand on One Shot One Kill:
This was just ridiculous. Two snipers vs a battalion of Terminator-like AI is not fun. Then there are those annoying dogs trying to bite your throat out. And just when you thought you had it made, you die trying to carry McMillian to the helicopter and have to start again. Rarrr!

The countdown segment of No Fighting in the War Room:
Huck! No commander in their right mind would order four soldiers to assault a heavily fortified bunker filled with company-size strength of terrorist psychos. I wave my fist in your general direction, Infinity Ward!

There are several others I can't remember the names for: the one where you have to cross a huge open field, and make a marathon dash for a helicopter after fending off several platoons of tangos; and mission before that where you get Cobra support; then the one where you have to rescue the informant and get shot up by that super-annoying helicopter and its super-penetrating minigun; among others.

I'm have huge trouble at the moment in the bonus mission: Mile High Club. I watched some videos of people finishing it on YouTube. They must be from another planet, because I run out of time just after climbing the stairs.

Great game for multi-player, but if anyone wishes to play the single-player missions on Veteran, don't... just don't. Your sanity is more precious.
Did it the same way, Veteran on the first run. Yes, hard it was, but not frustrating. I was bored enough to just keep trying
I did it on easy. With trainer. Much more fun. I can't really be bothered to make strategies and things like that. I just like to run through the level and shoot everyone.
I did veteran on campaign, my only really problem was the constantly regenerating enemies. Sometimes you just had to balls to the wall sprit through about six enemy firing lines to get to the next checkpoint. At the end of the mission with McMillian, leave him on the hill near the ferris wheel and then lay down in one of the ticket boths. Then the enemies can't shoot you and you only have to deal with a few grenades that make it through the door.

Mile High Club is hell on veteran, I've made it to the hallway upstairs (runs along right side of plane), but the shotgun at the end of the hall always gets me. This was with ample time too, I had 15 seconds left. To save time at the start, you can skip the guy in the bathroom and kill the next to guys on patrol while they are in the same doorway (on the left). Only 3% of all users have completed it (I'm not in this category).
I found the Ghillie Suit mission really hard anyway. I finished the game on Veteran, it was quite fun...
Except the part in the Ghillie Suit mission where you have to wait for extraction beneath the giant wheel, CoD4 isn't what I'd call hard...

But then, I spend most of my time playing very tactical fps games like Red Orchestra or ArmA (2), so I have rather well honded "stay out of fire" skills
there's no auto aim in consoles
you know, this is exactly the same thing that in MOH:airborne. i bought it, heard that its very small game, so i desided to go on first try at hardest difficulity i could get. it is insane, i died on almoust every new place, pechause you die on freasking ouple shots and you need to do most of the shooting yourself -.- that if something is frustrating, i died like 20-50 times on every mission. and i havent even finished it yet, im on the last mission(or i think so), and there walks at the same time 10 of the best enemies in-game (some people who played might now the frustration on them), that you need to put 3+ clips to head to get him dead, or throw grenades. on that ive died probaply 50+ times, and alwas died. impossible part, respect if someone is finished that game on hardest difficulity

Not entirely true. If you iron sights when your crosshair is close to an enemy, it will lock onto them. You can turn it off though, and it doesn't work online.

I only went through the CoD4 campaign once and then got bored the second time. Once you're learned the spawn points of the enemies it becomes more about memory than tactics or skill, there's no randomness to it. I go it for the online anyway, so I didn't mind

Yay! Red Orchestra is amazing. have been playing i for years (since they used the UT 99 engine) and Berlin was a mans map!

Did you ever play TTR(The Third Reich) was amazing. Anyway sorry to hijack this thread.
I sucked so badly at it on normal level I'd probably have to bind quick load and quick save to the left and right mouse buttons to survive on veteran.

The first RO version was a mod for UT 2k3, not UT99 :P I know, because I played it since version 1.2, and quite successfully to be honest

Never played TTR, but I did enjoy Infiltration back in those days

I am evil. I am fast. I am precise. I go only to the objective.

Playing on vet and normal easy mode is two totally different ball games, easy is good for a anger management session blowing the heck out of all in sight and vet requires understanding of exactly is being asked of you in the mission and where you primary goals are on map before you begin.

90% of the time confrontation isn't even needed with the AI, simply decoy and disappear.

I have completed all of the aforementioned titles on hard to start and easy for a laugh, why? Because I am the best.

Even though I slightly suspect you're trying to be sarcastic, CoD never really needed any strategy to survive. Just click the enemie, who always spawn in the same doorways and windows, dead until noone moves, go on, repeat.

Na, as I said, most of the time you are not supposed to enter into confrontation with the AI as the objective more often than not is to get to a specific place on the map meaning the use of smoke and frags must be adopted to the full.

This is the way I play anyway

It's probably because I have trained hard for years hence my title as the best, second place is just not good enough.

Yep, it's a pitty I don't play online anymore, this is because I have a piece of dirt as an excuse for a PC

Sorry u 2k3! haha. (nearly got it righ lol)

Infiltration was good untill they removed the scoreboard lol. Also all the crazy right wing American gun nuts ruined it. But was still fun.

I have it off then...
I cant remember the name of the mission, but the one where you and McMillian snipe some guys down, and then you have to run away with all crazy Russians gunning at you...
It was hell on Veteran, took me forever.....

There is no quicksave function in COD4. The entire campaign runs on checkpoints, some of which are timed (ie. no checkpoint if you don't get to them fast enough).
Veteran is easy cake to me.
I never played COD4, but I imagine anyone who has ever been wrongfully accused of cheating in an online FPS would probably do just fine on the hardest difficulty in any single-player FPS.
