Got the Coen brothers box set yesterday and oh my god. I thaught big lebowski was good. This film is truly amazing and awe inspiring!
Inglorious basterds was a good laugh too. Typical Quentin. I reccomend it too. Unless you like ultra realistic WW2 films. In that case watch The Pacific (or band of brother pasrt 2 as I call it)
If you're the type of movie goer who gets uptight hearing countless F Bombs and explicit sexual discussion, then I suggest you avoid seeing this movie. However there is a lot more to this than the occasional F word (ok the 248 uses of the F word) as there is a lot of in jokes and nods to other movies directed by Kevin Smith.
From the performances of the main characters, to the small roles given to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck there is not a bad or sub below performance.....heck even Will Ferrell is good in this movie, and I normally have a huge dislike for him.
For me Clerks is still the best film though. Absolutely amazing.
Watched MASH last night. Had never seen it before and have never watched the TV series. The characters are exactly the kind I like. Those one in a million people that just mosey through life with not a care in the world.
I might watch that, since it's about WW2, I hope they don't do it in a non (hardcore with the facts) way though, because I hate WW2 films that aren't historically accurate, of course this one isn't because of the plot but everything around that plot should be historically accurate to the bone.
So let's face it, the story is so utterly shit that even a porn movie is better, the actors act like they have a stick put up their ass and the dialogues are short, horrible and just generally very stereotypical, aswell that the movie just seems too damn AMERICAN!
When that is said, it was a blast to look at it on the cinema. Was allways something happening, and the movie stod never stil. Pure action from start to end, crazy shit. So if you have the opertunity to see this on cinema, does. It's one of these movies that are just pure entertaining, but needs to be watched on a big screen with good sound.
Just watched Stalingrad for the first time.... Wow, what an amazing film. Just..... Epic. Really really emotional and it says alot about what the German guys went through during the war being forced to do things that they really didn't want to.
Have not seen that yet, have to get around to it......has to be better than the one with Jude Law in it though.
Recently watched Oldboy again, great film with a plot that's guaranteed to keep you engrossed for the whole of the movie. The fight scenes are top notch and it's not for the faint hearted of those of a weak stomach.
[Caution....start of a very angry and opinionated rant....most likely littered with bad spelling and grammar errors but is 2am and I cant get to sleep so sod it.]
Unfortunately, while watching this I was told by my mate some deeply disturbing news....Steven Speilberg and co are in process of adapting/remaking this for the Western audience (or those who can't be arsed reading subtitles) and this can only end badly in my view....if he was to get his buddy Tom Hanks (who I quite like to be honest, can't think of a movie of his I really hated...I can even tolerate those with Meg Ryan) it might have been tolerable but nope....it goes to sodding Will Smith, he who poses all the charm of a stool sample from a patient suffering from a serious bout of food poising. Why can't they just let people discover this little gem, without having to trample all over it and produce a clean and glossy version for Hollywood, with the obligatory happy ending.
And while I'm at it, if by any chance Speilberg is reading this (hey, he's Hollywood and vain enough to google his own name....it could happen), please no more Indy Jones ans such, and if you can get your partner in crime to halt as well (Lucas) and stop skull [censored] good movies of which you both did previously then I can fully concentrate my hate on on people who fully deserve it from my sad and lonely existence in a cold and miserable Scotland. I'm just shocked you haven't done something like “Schindler's List – The Second Draft” or “E.T – Reversed Call Charges”.
There have been a string of aborted Oldboy remake projects. The most recent was to have been done by Justin Lin, which he abandoned because he felt he couldn't do justice to the material (or something like that).
Some more info re: the Spielberg/Smith remake (actually a separate adaptation of the original manga) here.
