Driving the MRT5
Hello, I wanna know how to put the MRT5 into gear and drive it. I can't seem to figure it out. I know it's a motorcycle transmission so the button(s) must be different. please help! thanks.
shift down to get out of neutral.

Push down for first, pull up for the rest.
also to get to neutral, you need to shift down from 1st

yeah it's different than it is on a motorcycle but... on a motorcycle, neutral is between 1st and 2nd... can't do that with keyboard

No, you need to shift up when you're stopped. Shifting down in first does nothing in the MRT Actually, there's a neutral between every gear, really. I can kick into a false neutral between every gear on my bike, but the one between first and second is the easiest to find

hyntty, the way bike gearboxes are made, there is a neutral between any two gears in sequence. the one between 1st and 2nd is the one you are supposed to use, ok.

for example, the early hornet, the cb600 has a rather easy false neutral between 5th and 6th

makes you shit your pants when you hear that GRRAAAANNG going 120mph

Yes, it's not so brilliant to hit a false neutral when kicking up from the redline (seeing as these things have no rev limiters, they literally keep going until they seize or until the carb can't suck any more air in) in 6th aiming for 7th, and hearing the 2-stroke NING NING NING NING at about 20k, makes you fly over the handlebars usually, not so brilliant at all Happens a bit too often on a gearbox older than myself

I know a guy who was a bit of a prat and decided to 'finish off' his old DT50 by putting nos on it for a laugh, he got up to the usual 50mph or so and then activated the NOS, he reached about 92mph, most of which on the back wheel before there was a terrible noise and he ground to a halt with an orange glow from where the engine was, he then jumped off once he was going slow enough and ran as the bike went up in flames on the grass verge, apparently some major engine parts kind of, well, melted.

And that is no joke, 100% true as i saw it for myself. I just wish that video phones were the norm then, as that would have been true youtube gold!

Too much NOS and not enough fuel. NOS is pretty safe in the right quantity for short periods.
if there was too much nos but not enough fuel, then the oxygen that the nos provides would just go through. if there was more fuel, more oxygen would burn the additional fuel therefore producing even more heat.

that's what the physicist in me says, anyway
Well im not exactly sure what happened, but i know there was a burning DT laying on the floor and us laughing for about 15 minutes!

I recognize that :P. I got a 2 stroke 50cc bike (Rieju RS2 Matrix), with an AM6 engine with an, common, Aprillia gearbox. The sequence is 1-N-2-3-4-5-6 and between 5th and 6th gear it's common for this AM6 - Aprillia combination to go into false Nutral gear. Don't know why it happens though. But i know with 75kp/h in 5th, trying going to 6th and not being prepared for it going into false nutral its pretty damn scary specially when overtaking someone ... Kinda got used to it so I kick up twice now, might be a tip for you.
I've grown up a bit now, and tend to short shift rather than redline every gear. It's far easier to stay on the bike cruising in 6th rather than flat out in 3rd when going through forestry I find .

I tend to save my excessive speed for my car now Was doing 160kmh before the shot, but by the time the camera turned on the wind had me down to 150kmh...Not bad for an ickle 1.0L I must make a video of the redline, it sounds so cute

(Say what you like about my speed, I don't care. This was done on an old bypassed B-road, with an 80kmh limit, where 120kmh is the standard speed of anyone driving on it. There's no houses, I was on my own in the car and it's wide open, so if it went tits up I was the only one who'd get hurt :shrug

I think i may have just learned something new, as i never realised that ireland use KM/H and not MPH.
We've done so for the last 5-ish years I think it's still imperial up north though. I much prefer metric, it makes you think you're going faster or something
Oh right, i never knew that mate, i didnt know where in ireland you were as stab city isn't on the map lol.

One of my oldest and best school mates has a lot of family in wexford, although im not entirely sure where that is, its a very nice place scenery wise though apparently.

Where the hell have we taken this thread, it started off about the MRT, oops!

No - because too much oxygen would result in too lean a mixture which would generate excess heat and melt something - either the head or the exhaust ports depending on the ignition timing.
what process would generate that heat?
With rich mixtures the air/fuel mixture nearest the walls of the combustion chamber tend to not burn, reducing the amount of heat conducted into the cylinder and head. Lean mixtures burn more completely and thus have more hot combustion products in direct contact with the engine.
