Fanatec Setup or rFactor
After spending many frustrating hours trying to get my new Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel Clubsport Edition (Clubsport pedals and H-Shifter) to work on Live for Speed I am giving up unless someone can tell me how to get it to work. Frankly, I bought this wheel to replace my MS wheel. I had used it the last couple of years with Forza 2 and now that Forza 3 came out I wanted to upgrade to the Fanatec wheel.

It took me 125 days to get the wheel and now that I have it it works perfectly with Forza 3 but while I was waiting for it to arrive I purchased Live for Speed because I knew it would also work on the PC. I have Falcon 4.0 (F16 fighter sim) for the PC and I had known about Live for Speed and rFactor for sometime and wanted racing that was more simulation than game, if you understand my meaning.

The last few months I played it with a MS controller on the PC and LFS was awesome but I didn't get too far into it waiting for the Fanatec equipment. I can't get it to work though. I have setup the shifter, I have setup the wheel and all of the parameters and what I am getting is strange results indeed.

There is the option to have the pedals show as bar graphs in the lower right hand side of the screen and it appears that the clutch is from 75% to 100% always engaged. I have setup the clutch in the provided Fanatec software on the PC, works fine on Forza 3, I have it set as an axes on LFS, have set it up several ways and it still does not function correctly.

The shifter will not work although the paddle shifters work but little power. I have toggled the shift+G from auto, to sequential, to shifter.

The result is that with the paddle shifters engaged I can speed along at like 15 mph max with any car and the shifting makes little difference at all. Almost like the, forget the name, but the mandatory idle is on during pit stop, but it is not. The throttle works, the brakes work, the steering works, the paddle shifts shift but the dang thing won't go more than a few miles per hour and the H-Shifter and clutch do not work.

I have had it! Unless someone can help me, maybe it just does not work with the Fanatec setup, then I am going to delete LFS and purchase rFactor. rFactor is in the software parameters in the Fanatec PC setup software. I would rather not have to fork out the extra cash and lose the money I have put into LFS (and all the laps I have put into the tracks for practice - lol).

Please help me!

Updated:
I just purchased rFactor and have it running already with the Fanatec wheel/pedals/shifter, I guess the silence of the last 22 people to look at this thread was answer enough for me to finally give up on LFS.

Chill down a little, I bet many europeans didn`t even wake up yet, or those who did are at work. It`s just 4 hours since you started the thread .

Did you try calibrating it in-game? The Fanatec software isn`t enough.
And about the 22 people who saw your thread, I`d say they didn`t interfere because of the issue: calibration. It`s been over discussed, asked about, answered million times .
Maybe try this?

Don`t give up ey? So what you got rFactor, there are some mods for it that are very nice. Now.. if you want physics simulation, LFS is the way.

Going to work now, so don`t freak out in 6 hours .
I've moved your thread to a more appropriate subforum.

Perhaps here somebody who can help more with the issue will read it. I suspect the percentage of players with the Fanatec wheel is relatively low, so it take may take a little time for some good advice and suggestions to be posted.

Good that rFactor works with the wheel, which rules out any issue with the wheel. Posting a screenshot of your wheel configuration screen (in LFS) may well be helpful.

Yes, you are correct, I needed that lol. I will check out the other thread thanks.

It is just that I had reached the height of frustration with obtaining the Fanatec product in the first place, then I had problems setting it up physically, then problems setting it up with Forza, then I snapped when I spent hours trying to set it up for LFS, especially when I couldn't get the Live for [Speed] above like 15 mph.

rFactor works but I can already see that LFS is preferable as far as the real feel, even with the time I used the controller. Obviously I had picked LFS over rFactor originally for some reason...
The calibration worked as far as the wheel, gas, and brake but the shifter and clutch still do not function, and still slow...I tried reversing the axis, recalibration, and it does not work. In the driver options I have shifter+no auto clutch.

...but I just set clutch axis to none, in other words not setup, and it works better now!

Now the speed is fine but it auto shifts! Force feedback and everything works but the clutch and shifter.

The shifter when in options works as in if I shift the shifter to say 1st gear it shows on screen like button 48 1st gear. I have used all 3 shift+g modes to no avail.

I have a feeling I am one click away from this working but I have no idea what the fix is.
Okay, now the status is that all the cars above the bottom row of cars appear to function correctly. The shifter works, the clutch works, everything works!

The problem now is all the bottom row cars, the cars with the information in the wheels rather than the console will not use the shifter or clutch but will use the paddle shifters.

For all I know that is the way they work in LFS but I would like to know for sure. I would rather use my floor mounted shifter with clutch rather than the paddles.

Thanks.

Cars that have a sequential transmission will need sequential controls, the h-shifter won`t work afaik. And vice versa, in theory at least.

I read about some people using sequential(paddles) instead of h-shifter in h-shift cars with scripts, but i don`t know exactly if it`s possible otherwise.

Thanks, that actually answers my question. The Fanatec also came with a sequential shifter but didn't think I would ever use it. I guess I will hook it up with the provided two steel tubes and leave my H-shifter on the side where I have it.
Losing Setup
Okay, I have now setup the RF Dongle (for wireless) for the Fanatec wheel & it works great...as long as I never logoff of LFS - lol - Once I close LFS then it forgets the shifter setup buttons and forgets the Axis setup.

Does anyone know why?
I am using the Porsche Turbo S wheel with LFS with no problems. I am only using the paddles though, so I don't know if that makes any difference. But when I shut down LFS, next time I come back, all my settings are still there.

The only thing I can offer is that I see the "Gear" option is in 2 places. You can set it in the Driver settings, and in the Control settings. Do you have it set to H-Shifter in both places?

If you want any info for comparison, let me know.
How did you get the clutch working? I have the turbo and cannot get it to work

I have it set to use Axis 9 (Y Axis), I am using the ClubSport pedals, but that shouldn't make any difference.

I haven't got the H-Shifter fitted, but if I go out onto the track and depress the clutch, the car doesn't move when I hit the accelerator... so it seems to be working as it should.
