Just as the title says.
Keep it nice and friendly guys pare the moderators...

I like metal, particularly power-metal, but anything fast, heavy with a decent melody to it. I don't like metal that doesn't have so much of a 'tune' to it, Cannibal Corpse and that kind of thing bores me.
It isn't really rock, but I really love metal.
Most kinds, but espacially Progressive (Symhpony X) and Power (Blind Guardian) Metal.
I also do enjoy some Black Dahlia Murder here and there.
Hmmm think the OP could of included metal in here too but meh.

Good timing for this thread considering they havej ust started announcing bands for download this year I tend to listen to bands like Metallica, Disturbed, Nonpoint through to the symphonic of Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Seasons end, also bands like Sonata Arctica and Rhapsody which I suppose fits under power metal.

Agree with crashgate too - Metal metal as I call it lol, but just the basic tune, growling/screaming 'singing' I don't generally listen to as don't find any enjoyment listening to it.
I listen to a lot of rock and metal and other styles also.
But I don't like MTV punk rock style.
I'm much more interested in metal with roots from old punk, like black metal, some thrash, grind, crust. I listen to them all.

I love one metal punk band: Ratos de Porão http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratos_de_Por%C3%A3o

Oh growling and screaming and blastbeats I love (*love* a good kick-drum blastbeat), but it has to have a tune in there too. Arch Enemy is a good example.

I like just about everything about rock music other than punk, metal and most of that music that people like to call 'indie'.
The Offspring FTW
Quote from NitroNitrous :The Offspring FTW

They are cool, I like. IMO much better than Green Day, Blink 182 and that stuff playing on TV. I think those use the punk genre as excuse to play basic stufflol
Blink 182 <3 imo they were the band that made punk big so bands such as the offspring could rise and become as known as they are. I want you bad is still their best song to date.
I love all music, except trance

Greenday were a lot better in the 90s, Kerplunk & Dookie in particular.

I listen to a lot of punk still...Rancid, NOFX, Sham69, Ramones, Cockney Rejects are some bands I always go back to. I also quite like the ska-punk stuff with horns in
Ah, Green Day... The U2 of punk

I agree, Dookie-era they were brilliant. Later stuff not so good.
I have a friend that says Green Day was the best band in the world in 2009 lol
I admit I'm a little biased because I don't know the work they did in the 90s

I don't think Green Day are any worse musically now than they were in the nineties but the sort of mainstream 'punk' image they have now with the black and red colour combo and eyeliner is a bit cringeworthy.

My favourite bands are blink-182, The Offspring, Alkaline Trio, Bowling for Soup etc. but I also have a lot of Iron Maiden and AC/DC albums on my CD tower. I'll gladly listen to pretty much any rock music that is melodic enough and not too angsty - I'm too happy for angst.

lol wat

The Offspring were around well before Blink 182, and neither band are really very punk in the traditional sense.
He's right in a sense as they both hit it big in the UK within a year of each other (Americana and Enema of the State) but it was still The Offspring that got big first over here as well.
Punk...PUNK !!

For gods sake, Punk died it's death in 1979 man, this modern day rubbish isn't Punk. What a travesty, eeee i dunno, kids these days...Hrrummph <insert your own little old grumpy man smilie looking miserable, and grumpy, coz i can't find it right now, (I'm sure Vic's been moving these things around yunno)>
I used to be into punk rock, grunge and a bit of alternative when I was 14/15, but since then my tastes in music changed totally, and now I'm more into 70's progressive and hard rock.

And yea, Green Day is quite a lot overrated, even though they did brilliant stuff in the 90's - Nimrod anyone

Yeah I agree, I love Offspring and some others but they're not punk. But punk didn't die in 1979, maybe in your country, but in Spain we still had some real and genuine punk after that. La Polla Records (renamed to Gatillazo), Boikot, Piperrak... and many many others. Some of them remain nowadays

Best punk album imo: La Polla en tu recto. That's a piece of art of Spanish punk
I love punk rock, and bands like Strung Out, Rise Against, Anti-Flag, etc. Very nice bands with nice lyrics, too.

Did punk even exist in the way people like to think it did? Seeing as quite a few original punk bands were either boy bands put together by managers or quickly did what music snobs would call 'selling out'. Perhaps punk wasn't as anti-establishment as people think.

Rock is quite nice when it's added to something, like Jazz, Funk or Ska

Who cares when they hit it big in the UK?

The Offspring's first major album came out in '94, and they formed in '84. Blink 182 were formed in '92 and had their first big success in '96.
Anyway, there's plenty of real punk still being made, but you won't hear it on the radio.
Shinedown my fav band.
