Okay I give up!
I give up. I downloaded this game and all i get is a black screen something about DSUB out of Range. Ive seen this before but never as the first thing in a game. Usually this happens after I set screen resolution from game to a res my monitor cant handle. So I searched the forums and found nothing. I seached with google and found nothing. I must be the only one with this issue. Ive also looked at what was installed hoping to find a config exe. NOPE! I found a config notepad file but its blank. How could this be? WHat the _____ is going on? I thought maybe I installed it wrong as if that could even happen because ive installed thousands of programs and never seen this. I found a link directing me to a YouTube video from the main site for Install instruction but wouldnt you guess the video has been deleted.

Bottom line is im playing around with 3 Sim demos right now and Im about to make a choice. Id like to drive this game before I do but I cant help but to think this is the kind of aggravation we should expect??? God i hope not but WTF. At every turn im denied. Any help would be appreciated.

That file contains one line (I think it is about windoed mode), and it fills after you runs the game for first time.

I can't help you on the other matters
Thanks for the reply but that makes absolutley no sense. I have no idea what the default resolution for this game is but I do know its at 85mhz. 85 Must be a standard somewhere other than in the U.S. which is fine but how am i supposed to change it? I cant see anything and there is no config file anywhere?

In the time ive spent on this ive already installed and played 3 other sim demos. What gives?
Open your LFS directory, and search for cfg.txt. Open cfg.txt and search for 'Screen info'. For example: "Screen Info 0 60 1440 900". Monitor 0, 60Hz, 1440*900. Change it to whatever you wish.

odd, mine says "1 0 1024 768".

Its not... 85 Hz is probably the default refresh rate of your video card. Mine is 60 Hz and also runs on 60 Hz. Sounds more like a resolution problem, maybe hitting F10 will help (switches to 800x600).

But you are not explaining what hardware you use, if you have installed all drivers correctly etc.
What are your pc spec?

Make sure to edit what other say in the CFG.txt
actually press shift-f10, just f10 is the tire temperature lol

dont give up on this game, it is the best out there
If you want help, give us at least some of your pc specs...
If you've seen that "DSUB out of Range" error before, maybe you're doing something wrong??
Thanks you all for the replies. Im reading my OP and I hate myself. I know better than this. I know my hardware can run it but how do you all know right? And maybe I dont know so here it goes.

Amd Athlon x2 4400+ Processor rating of 2.3 GHZ
3 gigs of PC2-6400
Geforce 220 GT 1 gig of ram

Now apparently the latest Nvidia driver had speed fan issues so I havent downloaded it yet. The previous driver should be fine.

So thanks to you guys ive now found the config file and corrected my screen resolution. But now im at another dead end for the game wont allow me to map my PS3 controller buttons. Looks like Im going to have to wait till I recieve my wheel.

Also please excuse my display of frustration. Its been a long road for me and finding a decent racing sim. Gran Turismo long ago then ToCa but when I stepped up to the PS3 I thought Id have the opportunity to experience much of what PC racers have had and what I was used to. This was not the case. Nascar 09 was a glitchy bust, Grid was all show with some go and also some unforgivable glitches, Ferrari Challenge was boring, Need For Speed Shift wasnt anything close to a Sim. So now im hoping my pc can bail me out. I dont need the best graphics. With what Ive been able to run so far looks great but more importantly drives like a racer should. So looks like Im going to need some upgrades if im going to be serious about this route. I know the graphics card is very low end. Heck the whole pc is low end.
i have had the nvidia geforce gt 220, and it can take lfs at mid-high graphics, so you are fine there

as for the controller, just go into controller, set it all up at tht top for all that apply, and at the bottom you will see axis/ff, click on that and set accordingly

DSUB out of range = wrong resolution set.

2 options to fix this.

Number one:

Open the cfg.txt file in notepad and changed "Start Windowed 0" to "Start Windowed 1" (should be on the second line). Then you can select the right resolution inside LFS.

Or ensure that "Start Windowed" is at 0, then look for the "Screen Info" line.

Mine for example is:

Screen Info 0 60 1680 1050

You want the first number at 0, the second should be your refresh rate in Hz, third is your monitors width in pixels and the fourth is your monitors height in pixels.

EDIT - D'oh, read the thread first.
