Question about Throttle body
Well, I have a question about my uncle's car which is an Opel Astra G 1.8 16v (Vauxhall Astra SRI MK4) which has the engine x18xe1 throttlebody with drive-by cable?

Anyway, When I drive the car its stuttering in gear 1/2 but its seems to work normally in neutral gear. So, I firstly thought that it was the Throttle body or the EGR.

My question is that, I want to clean the throttle body but is it necessary to take it off or can I just clean the upper side of it the butterfly valve.
What do I need to clean it correctly? Any Engine gurus have ideas?

I'm sorry that I'm asking this here, but I'm not a member of any other forums

Thanks!
What age is the car?..

The x18xe1 has a throttle cable, the z18xe has drive by wire, The z18 has 10 bhp more but a much less sporty gearbox... Anyways, when was the car last serviced? Astras tend to run crap if not serviced regularly... It could also be the EGR sticking open and choking the airflow with dirty air...

Does it do it all the time or just when 1st started? My car started to run crap earlier in the year so i just blocked the EGR port and its been fine since...

The z18 doesnt have a EGR fitted afaik and rough running is usually down to a faulty MAF/AFM...

Some people have luck fixing rough running by cleaning the throttle body but 99% of the time its something has failed on the engine...

Also cleaning the throttle body isnt just wiping it a little, You need to remove it and clean all the little airways and ports that goto the small pipes and such... If you damage it at all then you will need a complete replacement which isnt cheap...
Car is X18XE1, not the X18XE

Well, The car is a 1999 model. The stuttering is driving me crazy. I lend him my car and I took his Astra for some time, but it seems like it doesn't matter if the engine is warm or cold. I always get pissed off because I normally put it from 3 to 2 when going into a speedbump. After I take the speedbump when I press the throttle a lil bit the car seems to stutter then lift off from throttle the car seems to me rolling nicely afterwards. I also seem to noticed that driving in 80 in fifth gear seems to stutter too, but then you can only notice it on its sound.

I don't know when the car had its last service.

Btw, A friend of mine found something about how to clean it in these PDF files. (Could you please inspect those?)

Does it stutter at any throttle position or just fully (or close to fully) open?
Well, not too much. Like I have to touch the throttle. That is the only way.. And don't tell me that I'm in a too high gear (I know how to drive xD )

I also noticed that the throttle response aint near what my is200 is.

It's an Opel so what do you expect.

No, i don't know.
Hmm, I expect you to shut up and move on
It has a open airfilter which looks quite new though, Don't know about the fuel filter..

Let me check that site, thanks again guys
