i was looking for gaming netbooks and i found the Asus N10J and saw some youtube videos and it ran most games decently but i can't find a place that sells them new, plus i want one with windows 7.
so is there any newer semi gaming netbook that is not really expensive?

What do you mean? That Intel GMA is better than ION? I thought it was the other way around. Maybe the GPU's are decent, but the Atom cpu's are really weak. I have an ASRock HTPC, with Atom/ION, which I run XBMC Live on. As a media center PC it's great, but I couldn't imagine using it for gaming, as the cpu is just too slow. I tried installing Gentoo on it, but the compiling took like forever, so I dropped that.

If you wanted a Netbook you should have chosen this, Asus 1201N

It has a Dual Core Atom 330 and ION 256mb.. It can even play GTA IV

Why do you want WiFi N?

My netbook (Intel N270 / ION) will get away with basic games (i.e. it can play BF2... on low), but something like LFS (which is CPU intensive) wont work quite so well.

isn't wifi N the fastest wifi?

there's no harm in trying imo. if you're running lfs at a lower resolution like 800x600, you might get away with it.

I can get away will running LFS with everything low and 1024/768 on a gateway GT5464 so the laptop i picked should be able to run it way better judging by the specs.

Yes, it is. But why do you want it? Faster WiFi wont make your internet faster (unless your on an >20mbit connection)

onboard intel GPU's have always been crap. that's what i meant, sorry i wasn't more concise.

i also installed gentoo on my N270... but i couldn't get xorg to start, so i had to dump it. that was almost a year ago though, it might work now if hadn't blown the partitions away and gotten rid of my distcc server.

distcc together with ccache would surely have speeded up the compiling, but I can't be arsed doing it atm. System works just fine as it is now, and soon a Lucid Lynx based XBMC Live will be out. Although I really would have prefered that they based it on Gentoo. Much easier to maintain and keep up to date. For example, Ubuntu is always 2-3 kernel revisions behind Gentoo, which sucks. And when new versions of Ubuntu is released, almost everything in it is outdated already.

Dell Inspiron 1564 is pretty good value for money. My brother has a similar laptop to the one you bought - it runs FIFA well, but LFS is a bit sluggish even on low settings. He has a 5535 with the same GFX card, but a QL-64 (2.0Ghz x2) instead of your TK-42. Good luck with it though .

Bit of a bump to see if you got a laptop in the end?

I recently got a Acer Timeline 4810TZG that has a Intel SU4100 @ 1.3ghz, 4GB DDR3 Ram and a ATI Mobility HD 4330 512mb...

I've installed a few games on it to test it, it can run Dirt 2 at native res on low graphics always above 30FPS, GTA IV EFLC on 720p again all low at 20FPS+, it can also play Bad Company 2 at 720p also all low at 20+ fps, it's not the best but it helps you to see if the laptops you are looking at can play the games well..

If you want to play new games well then look for something with a GeForce GT 330M or higher..
