Most powerful engine?

Small block Chevy. The Holdens in OZ are fitted with them . Forget the Rover lump. It`s only use is as a boat anchor. They need to much work doing to produce any real power and are not the most reliable thing even when standard. I`ve have 5 of them and they all leaked oil and water, and yes I DO know how to look after a motor.
The best price/performance = BMW E36 M3 s50b30/2

it's the cheapest six cylinder naturally aspirated engine with that kind of power

nothing else comes close especially where i live...

2.6 L RB26DE I6 = 217 hp (Nissan)
3.2 L S50B32 I6 = 321 hp (BMW)

Quote from brandons48 :RB26DE then...

180bhp from 2.6 litres in the standard car (i.e. not the Autech listed there). Hmm...how is that spectacular in any way?

It's my personal preference.

Perhaps unsurprisingly you decided to post in the thread without reading anything that had gone before (including the OP) and you added nothing.

Well he has a point - OP was looking for the most powerful engine, and you picked out a totally average one and then justified it with "well it's my favourite".

Holden small blocks have a different block, heads, and internals than Chevy small blocks.
Did a little searching, the most powerful NA straight 6 ever produced is the TVR Speed Six producing 405 hp from a 4L capacity. Question finally answered?

Yes.
Oh, I actually missed that
I guess because I was reading about how the most powerful one was in the TVR Sagaris, and not the Tuscan. But well done
The TVR T440R had a 4.2 litre version of that engine rated at 440hp. Sadly never made into production though.

They did, however, stick two end on end to make the 880hp V12 that found it's way into the Speed 12.
