i was on stumbleupon, and it brought me to a way to make firefox faster. so i did a bit of research and found this, which did make my firefox alot faster
any others anybody else wants to share, that are similar, or do a similar thing...or just help?
there used to be an extension for firefox 2 called fasterfox that did these settings... but when firefox 3 came out, they didn't upgrade the extension because they said firefox's settings changed from the slower firefox 2 defaults.
I guess it's some sort of addon which makes all the adjustments for you. I don't really get the point of installing such addon as it does nothing you couldn't do yourself and it might actually screw something up.
The tweak you found is actually pretty old (it worked on Firefox as antiquated as 1.5 IIRC) and it still works in the latest 4.0 beta.
If you want to make your browsing even faster, I think you might want look for another browser. (upcoming Opera 11.00 looks damn good btw)
what you have inouva, will that do anything i havent done?
are there any more things you guys have done to make it any faster?
and tehpaws3d, it is actually noticabley(spelling?) faster
EDIT: and i love the way i have firefox right now, the toolbars, bookmarks, layout, addons, and my persona. chrome doesnt offer personas that fit this well (if at all)
I have no first hand experience with that addon, but a quick look at it suggests that it's nothing more than a more comfortable way of adjusting internal FF settings which comes with few presets. I suppose that modifying correct entries in about:config would do exactly the same job.
What you've done so far has quite noticeable speedup effect, I don't think there is anything else really worth all the fooling around.
And I've got even better addon for GC, it's called Opera:-P
Which part of not willing to wait for few unnecessary seconds whenever a webpage loads qualifies as n00bish? As logitek already pointed out, this trick is one of those that actually work...
only thing i have done is what i linked to at the top of the page.
i have noticed a generally better load time. imm so glad i remembered ff is open source
i found myself looking at another guide, where you had to download some tweaker, but firefox wouldnt let me because it did not give updates or something?
Any chance you can find out what was the tweaker supposed to do? It's very possible you can achieve a similar result even without it. Anyway, I think that there aren't any real reserves on the browser part, you could probably shave off some extra time by optimizing your Internet connection itself, but that's kinda hard to tell...
i was on stumbleupon (it randomly puts you on some random website on the internet) and it happened to come up...if there is a history of that, i can tell you, but not too sure where to find it.
When you have AIDS and STD's and other STI's You tend to need to move faster as your life just got limited!
First, I must say, Learn2Grammar. Actually noticeably. Plus you don't put two adverbs together to pronounce a verb.
And secondly, I don't see why you guys are in a need for speed, I have 6GB both way internet, Videos buffer in about 5 seconds even if they are 30 minutes long in 1024P or what ever the 1000+ HD Is.
I have a chucked full HD, A crappy partition and a fragmentated disk, I can still load pages ( LFS Forum ) In about 0.00029 seconds. You guys have to much pronz on your drives or viruses.
They can only hold one up for so long so have to have t3hpr0nz load teh quickly!
To be honest I don't know what everyone is moaning about. I only have internet use at work (haven't had it for a year and a half since moving out) and yes, while I have it on my phone it's too slow to use for browsing for pleasure. And it won't even load PornHub.
There is like a 20% faster load of pages nothing more, the rest depens of the host and his connection ( While you acces to a web ) some times they are restirced and doing the pipelin / max request / etc etc on "about:config" is not use at all, and some times if you touch values beyond recomendation, automaticaly the webhost detect that config as a possible DOS attack and can ban you from his servers/webs etc
Also depens on many things too. such ISP trafic / tracert / etc etc
to be honest, i'm not sure why i used that extension in the first place... firefox loads pages pretty quickly compared to IE, because gecko doesn't need the whole page to load before rendering.
really? i've never actually timed it, but when i load a webpage, i normally expect to read text... if firefox can get me the text portion of the website faster, then i'm all for it.
i don't understand this... i could see them making this claim if every linux distribution was the same, but many distributions have different conventions requiring these "optimizations", typically with the filesystem layout.
now, if they're talking about CPU features, maybe i could see them making this claim if browsers specifically needed SSSE3 or whatever new technology AMD is coming out with... but does a browser really need that?
