Quote :The Gulf Liveried Aston Martin AMR-One is a new open-top LMP1 race car featuring a 2.0 litre turbocharged six cylinder direct injection petrol engine which has been developed for a new bespoke carbon fibre chassis designed and manufactured by Aston Martin Racing.

Based on the new regulations for 2011 instigated by the Le Mans governing body; the ACO, Aston Martin Racing has chosen to change tack this year in designing an open cockpit car. In line with the new 2011 rules, the AMR-One features the new blade-fin and has a significantly down-sized engine in keeping with the championship’s efficiency focused regulations. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed transverse semi automatic pneumatic shift, Xtrac racing gearbox.

The AMR-One is linked to Aston Martin’s ultimate design and engineering showcase; the road going One-77; both of which share similar philosophies featuring carbon fibre monocoques. Aston Martin’s in-house design team worked closely with the engineers at Aston Martin Racing to find the optimum balance between aesthetics and aerodynamics.

Aston Martin Chief Executive, Dr. Ulrich Bez said: “Aston Martin’s heritage is deeply rooted in endurance sports car racing, so in 2011, we take the next step demonstrating that a small team using advanced design and engineering intelligence will be agile and competitive.”

Team Principal George Howard-Chappell said: “We have chosen to run with a six cylinder turbocharged engine because we believe this offers the best potential within the petrol engine regulations. With the ACO’s commitment to effectively balance the performance of petrol and diesel Le Mans entrants – our hopes are high that we’ll see the closest racing yet in the premiere LMP1 category.

so a turbo 6, nice. wonder if inline or V, guess latter

It´s inline
Quote from ACCAkut :so a turbo 6, nice. wonder if inline or V, guess latter

It was announced a couple weeks back that it would be inline. Interesting choice... they claim it has benefits over Vs without any drawbacks, relatively speaking. I don't buy it, but it's an interesting thing none the less.
maybe they just cut on of their V12s in half and glued a turbo to it

well i6s can sound gorgeous, like in those BMW powered Osellas
Quote from wiki :An inline six engine is in perfect primary and secondary mechanical balance, without the use of a balance shaft. The engine is in primary balance because the front and rear trio of cylinders are mirror images, and the pistons move in pairs. That is, piston #1 balances #6, #2 balances #5, and #3 balances #4, largely eliminating the polar rocking motion that would otherwise result. Secondary imbalance is avoided because an inline six cylinder crankshaft has six crank throws arranged in three planes offset at 120°. The result is that differences in piston speed at any given point in rotation are effectively canceled.

An inline four cylinder or V6 engine without a balance shaft will experience secondary dynamic imbalance, resulting in engine vibration. As a general rule, the forces arising from any dynamic imbalance increase as the square of the engine speed — that is, if the speed doubles, vibration will increase by a factor of four. In contrast, inline six engines have no primary or secondary imbalances, and with carefully designed crankshaft vibration dampers to absorb torsional vibration, will run more smoothly at the same crankshaft speed (rpm). This characteristic has made the inline six popular in some European sports-luxury cars, where smooth high-speed performance and good fuel economy are desirable. As engine reciprocating forces increase with the cube of piston mass, inline six is a preferred configuration for large truck engines.[6]

maybe thats why. less vibration - less reason to fail
Quote from ACCAkut :maybe thats why. less vibration - less reason to fail

Less vibration is the motivation for the move, indeed, and this is also noted on Mulsannes Corner:

Quote from Mulsannes Corner :And Aston's George Howard-Chappell has indicated that there aren’t any packaging draw backs for the long 6-cylinder given the car’s wheel base (2930 mm) and the current LMP regulations and there actually are benefits from a cooling standpoint. We're also told the engine is positively tiny, and easily lifted by one person.

Paul Richard race and the first run for the Aston Martin AMR-one this weekend, any thoughts?
Hoping it does exceptionally well.

Someone remind us of this race when its starting, as I will forget.

Me too

Also, does anyone know any live stream coverage?

Not exactly a reliable source, but he says they were lapping at consistent 47s.

Hum without traffic that didn't sounds that awesome and Sebring...can't wait for Le Mans Test day ! :bounce8:

You don't go flat out on a test day. Especially not at Sebring where the track is so unforgiving for mistakes. Peugeot should be worried. Very worried. They had to wreck the R15 at Sebring to cement the win, and it was the older Oreca-Peugeot that won anyway. MAJOR LOL

maybe you do, maybe you don't. no one knows for sure except the team

These are Germans we are talking about, they don't need to go flat out to know the outright pace of their car, with their mathematics skills they can use the telemetry as a reference.

ohhhh telemetry and math, shhhh don't tell Peugeot (or any other team) these things exist because they probably don't know
Theseteams always do tests flat out. This isn't formula one. Anyway Pescarolo gonna win Le Mans and Le Mans track is just out of any pronostic because THIS IS LE MANS !

Peugeot are too retarded to figure-out anything, that's why they ram Audi's to feel secure.

That's a pretty stupid move, too... The Audis are much stronger, more durable cars. The Pugs fold like origami racers when they touch...
Boohoo. Bold, maybe even stupid move but if you actually watch the replay, Gene's car is sideways just before they hit second time.

Capello & Gene commented it here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90059
Well Audi are modest enough to play down the incident, calling it an intentional wreck would be stupid on their part. Gene was sideways, but to me it looked like he knew he would spin, so he overcorrected to take out the Audi aswell. Going up the inside of T17 is a recipe for distaster. Pat Long showed us that, in the same race no less.
The new Aston Martin was 5 second slower than the pole position(Rebellion@lola-toyota) in the qualification Bad sign?

Though, they never really drove in the practice session so probably not something that should be taken too serious..
Very nice!
I just woke up, any decent stream coverage?
I cant find anything anywhere
