So, GF & me are planning to visit Canada this summer, and are looking for nice places to visit in Ottawa and Quebec, as the rest of the trip is already set up.

Anything half touristic, from museums, historic buildings, parks, etc

montreal has quite a few museums and stuff of that genre...biodome etc

the rideau canal isn't frozen in the summer, so you can't exactly go skating...

now that i think about it, parliament might be open by the time you get here, if you're interested in foreign politics or monarchies.

Most of Canada's national parks are incredibly gorgeous...

If you're going to Montreal have a look at Mont Tremblant. It's not far from Montreal and has some simply gorgeous scenery. Also, have a look at the Circuit Mont Tremblant website; there might be some racing at the track while you're around! It's one of the best tracks in the world, too, imho.

As far as things to see, both Ottawa and Montreal have a lot of museums and historical landmarks in them, if that's what you're looking for. I don't know specifics as I haven't really been to them in either city (haven't been to either city all that much, either, actually) but I'm sure the municipalities' websites should have a wealth of information on them.

Are you visiting the Toronto area at all? As you've said the rest of the trip is planned, what stuff are you going to see here (assuming this is a stop on your schedule)?

The plan is to land on Toronto from JFK, rent a late 60s convertible big ass V8 (I wish hehe) and see, in this order:

Toronto: CN Tower, downtown, Harbourfront, Irish district and some of the bigger malls
Ottawa: Parliament and the hill of the stray cats (lol) thats why I asked here for advice, not sure its worth spending a day or two here
Quebec: Terrasse Duferin, the citadel, Notre Dame 2, petit Champlain, Montmorency falls,
Tadoussac: whale watching
Montreal: Le fontain parc, botanic garden, St. Jean Lake, Mont Tremblant ()

Since we will be coming from the US east coast (NY, Washington, etc), we will have had our share of big cities already, so national parks and alike are a very valid option, specially since we havent booked anything in Canada yet Its hard to find info on the best parks to visit since in our route there are so many!

Have you thought about seeing Niagara Falls? If you come up through NY (Buffalo, specifically) you come up right through Niagara Falls anyways, worth spending a day there. The Falls are beautiful and there's plenty to waste time on there. Plus you could get all dressed up in your suit and head to the Fallsview Casino

[EDIT] Note: Spend time on the Canadian side of the falls. The American side is balls... Plus all the hot girls are on the Canadian side, up-state New York is almost totally devoid of attractive females...

Yep he's right the Canadian side of the falls are truly a site to see!
Quebec and Montreal are fantastic places to visit.

And you're pretty might right about that. Says he's flying to Toronto though, which means no Niagra Falls probably since its a couple hours in the wrong direction for him.

Should be able to make the falls in an hour drive, maybe hour and a half. It's not too far

It's certainly a weird.. anomaly. I spent a weekend at Watkins Glen with a couple buddies during the vintage event last summer, and we were all astounded at the shocking lack of females the entire time we were in America; not just at the race track. I'm sure there's got to be some in the southern part of the state, but up-state.. woah. By the way, if you happen to find yourself in upstate New York, check out Watkins Glen state park. GORGEOUS place. I am a big fan of rocks and gorges and streams and such, though.

Don't forget the muse pointe a caliere, it rly interesting historical stuff in it. Also there is la place DES arts where there is a lot of art galleries and underground shopping connected to the McGill metro... Also by the time come here, there will be free music festivals ( outdoor). I you want u could do a lap of the f1 circuit at the astonishing speed of 30km/h ! U have the Olympic stadium, you could go for a walk on the mont royal and have a nice view of the city.

Then as the others said, there is tremblant ( which is beautiful in both summer and autumn )

In quebec city theres the plains of Abraham , les remparts , the chateau Frontenac, all in all the whole of old Quebec is a nice touristic place.

And for the parcs, u could go to the oca beach. But I donut know much of provincial parks in this province coz theyre balls coz I can't go with my dog... Oh wait, le mont saint Bruno... That's about it... All he epic Parks are in western Canada ( banff , etc..). The montmorency falls will disappoint you. Its nothing special, just a little flow of water falling off a miserable cliff

Ah, Banff, the STD capital of Canada... Such a beautiful place, though.
