Lets all hope this place dont turn into RSC
I would prefer if it was like RSC.

hmmm, hard thread. since i've been a moderator myself for few years (doom9: digital audio/video stuff, about 50,000 members, more than 1000 active members, around 30 mods), all i can say is that it's hard beeing a mod. u ALWAYS have to make hard decisions, and can NEVER satisfy everyone, and it's really, REALLY a lot of work.

of course, u try to moderate posts as little as possible, but sometimes moderation IS needed. a decision taken is not always the "right" one, but a decision has to be taken if a thread goes out of control (as i assume happened on the said thread, i haven't read it i think). having more mods around helps taking better decisions. i remember that few issues caused quite a long threads in the mods area because it was really hard to figure out what to do with a thread/user/subject/etc.

and decisions are usually reversible. deleted threads should be moved to a hidden section where only mods can read them. IMHO, it's preffered that only the offending bits are removed with an explanation from the mods team and, if appropiate, thread closed. you should also remember that the forum is privately held, and it's NOT a democracy. mods and owners try to make it as usefull as possible but they have the final word on any issue.

as always, common sense should eventually prevail or else, the forum will die. perhaps this forum should get few more mods to be able to help each other with some decisions/tasks?. specifically about the thread, since more that one agreed that it's started as a usefull thread, maybe a mod could filter out some bits, close the thread and put it "out" again?

Why do you think LFS has its 'own' forum now?
Scawen, you need to make more use of this:

Is it "talk to tha hand, coz the face ain't listening?" or "Use private messages?"

If it is the last one, I agree. The disputes between Scawen and Kid could also be carried out via PMs, as they do not offer any value for the forum readers. And, it would clearly make the forums be a better place

And to the OP: Sure, you're right, PMs to explain deleted posts would be great.

Just to make sure it's clear, there are two threads in question :

This thread we are talking on now, was started about "Thread B", which was a "name and shame" that started gently but turned into a mudslinging match, so was removed by Scirocco, as i guess he judged that the thread's starting post would perhaps always lead to mudslinging eventually.

But the main contoversy here that was starting to rest but has now been strirred up again, is about an older "Thread A" where Gunn removed a selection of posts, after receiving complaints. In some people's eyes too many posts were removed. Unfortunately we have a mountain out of a molehill situation, and no possibility of the posts being returned, due to the rudeness of certain reactions to his action.

What you see there is not the last - we of course continued discussion offline.

But i've had it with this now. I've done my last mail on the subject and now i make my last post.

It's too much out of too little. I guess we have all learned something. Points have been made. There will be no benefit from further repetitions of the same comments again.

We have to move on now, not dwell for days on one minute's action from some time in the past. So now i'll close this thread. Thanks for your contributions.
