In turkey kob started 23rd overtook atleast 10 cars in the first stint with hards, then when he overtook buemi for 8th buemi hit he's rear tyre and he got a puncture which put him in 16th then he overtook the force indias Williams and Schumacher to get 10th.
To say perez deserves a Ferrari seat for being a bit ahead of kob with a clean race is laughable.
I remember heidfeld was part of the mclaren drivers program before he joined suaber in 2001 he out scored kimi yet kimi who had ties with ferrari got the seat.
Now considering kobayashi is the better one and has no ties to Ferrari hopefully same applies lol.
Kimi was jumping directly from Formula Renault 2.0 to F1, which is what made his season genuinely impressive.
I do not think any other young driver made it to F1 with so little experience over the last 2 decades. Yet Kimi ended up in the points on regular basis, and got very close to Heidfeld(who had at this time lots of F3000 experience and a full F1 season).
Hmm, really? He had tons of retirements IIRC, the McLaren was a real pain reliability wise. He still would've won at Magny-Cours if McNish's Toyota didn't decide to spread oil all over th end of the backstraight. And he had a very impressive 2nd time at Spa's quali - between the two Ferrari.
I only mentionned the first two performances I could think of. He probably had some other good drives(like his 3rd place at the Australian GP despite having to pit after lap 1), but as I said, the McLaren kept breaking that year, this is why he probably didn't have as many points as he deserved.
Anyway Kimi was a sort of "long-term investissement" for McLaren, this is why he shouldn't be judged on his first year only. In 2002 he probably was still in a learning curve, much more than Nick. Remember that Kimi then came very close to the title in both 2003 and 2005, overpowering teammate Montoya(who beated Nick by a small margin for the title in 1999 F3000) in the process. So hiring him wasn't so much of a bad idea I belive.
(Oh, and I clearly prefer Nick over Kimi BTW. Just trying to be objective here)
Me too, because Kimi's cold as an iceberg and Nick's your friendly guy from the neighbourhood
Oh, and btw: Montoya won F3000 in '98, Nick in '99(Nick could have won '98 rather easily, but his pole at the Nürburgring was taken away from him thanks to West making a mistake.
Yeah, but as I said: Not starting from pole is totally different(I think he really started last), right?
I think I still remember flashes of Montoya's black Supernova going through the last chicane... I was about 9 when I watched that last race, disappointed Heidfeld didn't win, but even more he did the season after.
Yea - was also very surprised to see him when I watched the finale a year ago.
There was also Jason Watt, who currently is doing great in STCC(1 win so far this year) despite being paralysed, and is also Dennis Lind's manager AFAIK. Also Andre Couto, the Macau specialist.
As far as i know he was not planned to race that race, because of budget problems^^ Really really impressive that he won a race with that small budget - Hopefully we will see him own some swedish dudes again :P
