Daytona 500 2012 seats
Going to the race, about to order tickets. Any tips on where NOT to sit?
Next to a redneck?
Uhm, what difference does it make? Its an oval.
It's also one of the great races of the calendar, and it's probably the one chance I'll have to go there. Not a big fan of NASCAR, but a race is a race. Would be a pity to have it ruined by crap seats.

Looking at seats high up on the back straight, they are cheap and nice view, but no view into pit lane. Should be all right, you'll see better on the big screens anyway.

I don't think it's possible to avoid that.

Try and sit next to the left hander just after the start.
Love is in the air.

Backstretch isn't really a place you "want" to be, its more of a backup for when you can't get anything on the front stretch. On the back you will just see the big one (if it is there), you can't see much of the track from there.

However if you sit on the front stretch, and near the tri-oval, then you can see pretty much the whole track. You just have to sit high enough up. Best seats there IMO.

Been there multiple times if that helps me prove my point any.

not been to Daytona, but that's my experience with MIS too... you want to be up high-ish (maybe not ALL the way up) on the front side of the track... behind the two rednecks that get in a fist fight because someone accidentally spilled their beer.

You have to be near the rednecks, otherwise you lose out on all the great people watching opportunities and the umm...unique culture
It's much better to sit near rednecks then a bunch of yanks or hill-billies. Plus to be fair, rednecks can be hilarious.

well yeah, you can't understand anything hill-billies say... but I like yanks. seeing as you would probably class me as one

But rednecks are hilarious, I love 'em
From Michigan and I'm guessing college in Georgia?

If so... Yank.

yup.

I get made fun of in Georgia for being so northern, but some of the south has rubbed off on me, so I get made fun of in Michigan for being a southern boy... I have no home
Well, got seats on row 36 in turn 1, from the 3d representation on the website we are supposed tp be able to se the pitlane more or less head on. Should be good.

My first time in the states, taking the kids to Disney, and just happened to notice the date of the Daytona 500 and thought "what the hell". Not really that interested in NASCAR, but any raceday atmosphere is great in my eyes.
Not a bad choice at all. Only thing I think you will miss out on is the exit of Turn 4, but other than that you should be good.

Also, if it is your whole family and they are amused by cool stuff, I would definately get there early to experience everything. There is alot of stuff to do around the track, inside the track, and they have some hot beaches.
Me, the wife, my 9-year old boy, and my brother-in-law with his 8-yo. We're driving in from just outside Disney, so hope to get there fairly early.
One thing I will say to you is plan to get there at least 4 hours early. I've never been at the track on raceday, but I can assume that there will be at least 2 hours of traffic holdup on your way in (just to be safe I'd leave and get there as early as possable that morning.. it isn't like there's nothing to do there at the track anyways).

Honestly, we went to the 1st race in Kentucky this Summer, and it was a traffic nightmare, but that's because they didn't have roads accessable to 107,000 built yet. I'm sure Daytona or any other track will be alot better (we sat in traffic for 5 hours and missed the start of the race by 31 laps). But where we sat (it was a sell out crowd) we didn't have any yelling, idiotic rednecks anywhere beleive it or not. After the race in the parkinglot there were alot of drunks, and anger at the traffic (yes it was just as bad leaving) but generally, there was alot of people who really weren't the deep "redneck" steriotype. Of course as an American, I'm sure my view on what a redneck is exactly is different too, but the people never gave me any problems.

Seats towards turn 1 are very good, you'll get the full experiance of the velocity and energy which the cars are carrying As always, it'll be exciting I'm sure
