I would like to buy 1Kg minced meat. Thank you.

Yeah the engines I used to build for a company I worked cost £14k finished, but was a 2.0 redtop engine and the engine would munch a VTEC lump for breakfast! Yeah, had a **** load of work done it etc, but had 220bhp at 3500rpm and that would rev out to 9500rpm. Figures was 290bhp which didn't really matter when the torque figure was at 200ft lb of torque.

220HP At 3500rpm = 447.58nm. That's more than twice as much as usual from an 2.0 N/A engine.
200lbf·ft Equals 271nm, which is far too much as well.
If it would have 290hp at 9500rpm, it would need to have 217nm at 9500rpm. That's a lot, but not impossible.

Why do you think I didn't bother responding to such a silly claim? Thing is, I very much doubt he has any real proof.

As for the comparing cars business, again it's stupid. He obviously has a hatred for Hondas, but if he will compare a civic and a golf, at least pick models of the same age! Mk3's are renowned as the worst Golf to drive in terms of driver enjoyment, closely followed by the Mk4.
how are you measuring 'driver enjoyment' anyway. They're both cheap commuter cars built to get from A to B with the least amount of gas and 'driver enjoyment'.

Why would Honda build a car purely for commuting, with a 160hp+ vtec 1.6 engine? Why would VW build a car to use little gas, and then proceed to stick in a 170hp 2.8 V6 engine?

Yes, both cars are good at commuting at do so reasonably well, but some people like to have fun with a car when they come across a nice bit of road. I'm pretty sure Honda knew my Accord would be driven hard occasionally, otherwise it wouldn't have a 8650rpm 170hp vtec engine, or a limited slip diff, adaptive suspension etc.

Try not to be so single minded.
sry i thought you guys were talking about base model N/A honda and VWs, not top of the line vtec or VR6 models.
Man, I still miss my E30. link

And a VTEC engine doesn't actually really produce much power at all compared to in VTEC etc...

Tbh a stock c20xe would get raped by a k20, plus it would cost more money to get it even near a stock k20..
Not a huge fan of mainstream Hondas (S2000/NSX/IT-R are alright) but I can't see some boring old kübelwagen doing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfGZyB4Dl-k

Hondas strenght is in their engines, that's how it has always been.

2.0 L (195bhp) 2.3L (192-215bhp), 2.5L (238bhp)
And yet a Honda F20C is more powerful than all them, yet remains a 2.0.

BMW make great engines, but I'm failing to see your point E2.

Before Ferrari 458 Honda S2000 was holding the world record with 124 BHP per liter.

who said i had any?

It's a bit weird to post a picture of an engine and spout out random numbers.

...maybe I will post a picture of the fire breathing 20hp engine from a Fiat 500.

actually my point was that bmw had that engine in 87. honda came out with fc engines in what? mid 90's? technology makes a lot of difference.and we can all agree, its better by every year.

I think its 220bhp at either 3500-4500rpm between their. They are built for MK1/2 Escort Rally cars

He will get around 290bhp from a C20XE. They've had some work done to them obviously, cost 14 grand each.

Nathan, proof? Look up JRE Racing Engines before making claims ffs lol!

I don't work with building engines no more. Work on Historic Race Cars, Chevron B36,B40,B8 and various B series which are numbered stupidly! E Type jags and Group C LeMan cars.

I am just saying, my own opinion, my mk3 golf GTI felt a lot nicer to drive than the Civic. Yes, a civic is good bang for buck for a quick car. I would own one for that reason, but I don't grow a love for the car to say, like some of these Civic drivers do.

I didn't say I have a hatred for all Honda cars. I like the S2000 and NSX a lot.
We modified the exhaust..... all i can say is: That rear silencer really did a excellent job in the past of silencing, dayumnnn
Those Honda engines can rev 11k or produce 300+ hp, but all the fun is ruined by the driven wheels. Enjoy your horrible tourque steer.:bananadea
