Come to the drug district in zurich and i'll show you five of those in the same place as well. The thing is, you don't go to those places if you want to buy weed, and weed isn't the main product those people are selling. In short words, if you want to buy weed, you don't ask a heroin dealer on the street.
Drugs are a very sensitive topic to the majority that have not experianced them.
I think there are a few major factors, things such as Meth or Heroin can make people vey socially unacceptable, personally I have not tried either but I have been around people that have.
The second biggest issue I think is tax, if the government is to make a product legal it also has to be profitable.
Weed is slowly getting closer to being more socially acceptable with range of high quality properly taxed and profitable variations for medicinal purposes.
If it were to be legal it would open the doors to large companies mass producing to the general public, having the ability to choose your preference as if you were buying a pack of cigarettes. If this were the case home growing should/would remain illegal.
I'll back this argument with alcohol as an example, the amount of quality variation in alcohol now days has ultimately pushed out the home brewer making moonshine to sell on the black market, but that's just one example.
Needless to say alcohol and tobacco are one of the most harmful drugs when compared to most of the illegal ones but are more easily regulated in consumed quantity.
I can't see MDMA being legal any time soon, despiate the fact that any one you encounter on the substance will be the friendliest person in the world the side effects of frequent use can lead to depression and mood swings. Let's face it, it's fun but your brain needs it's serotonin. (don't bother flaming me for this paragraph if you've never tried it)
The fact is that there is so many different kinds of drugs out there. I won't lie I have tried most of the popular drugs out there my fav being LSD, but I stand against making them legal for the simple fact that it would be too difficult for general sociaity being completely adaptable to some 18 year old knocking on their door at 2am offering a peanut butter sandwich.
Lol, If you want to see how much truth is in the 'war on drugs' check Afghanistan's opium production before and after the place was invaded. Holland has by far the most responsible and aware folks I have ever met regarding drugs, taking away the 'breakin the law' aspect there seems to have had a very positive effect.
I did meth in july/august of last year. stayed up over the course of three days, and had a wicked time. Only did it that once.
Haven't had it since, Don't plan to have it, Nor have i stabbed anyone with a needle and robbed them.
OH NOEZ, TEH METH IS TEH RUIENIRING OUR SOCIETY!
protip; the people that go around robbing others and knife point for there next meth hit, would have already been robbing people at knife point in the first place, they just have a reason for them to do it now.
Klutch your attiute towards drugs looking at your previous drug releated posts makes you sound like a junkie, and the sad thing is that you seem proud to be one.
The problem with Meth is it's addictivness, and the way it's manufactured. nothing about it can be good for you, it releases an epic shit ton more dopamine than cocaine will and it puts your body through an enourmous amount of stress.
You made it through a night of meth without stabbing someone that's nice, but the simple fact that a frequent meth users personality will change and the dramatic reduction in health is more than enough reason for it to never tbe legal.
Saying that there is still even worse things out there, there's a new fad in russia of a drug called Krokodil, what this is basically is Codine mixed with things like battery acid. then injected directed into your blood stream, the main purpose of this is to get you a better hit more like heroin, the reason it's called krokodil is because your skin turns green once using it, an addict of this has a life expentancy normally no longer than 2 years.
This I think further backs my argument that a line needs to be drawn to what things are okay and what are not.
Here's a video of the long term side effects of Krokodil.
Holy cow! That's some poisonous junk! I just can't see how normal people come up with injecting something directly into your blood with a needle. All the chemical stuff seems wrong to me, but this is over the top.
The Governemnt shouldn't be involved with stuff like this, people should be free to take what they want as long as they don't hurt anyone else.
The whole issue started when you had snoopy people thinking other people have to be the same as them.
Yes drugs might be bad for your body, but if the consumer person knows this and still wants to take it who are you to say they can't.
I mean there is more then enough education out there to tell you if its bad or not.
If the government shouldn't be involved in regulating and enforcing drug laws, then they also should not give money and services to addicts. Hospitals should not treat addicts for any symptoms related to drugs unless the user pays or has health insurance. It is unfair for responsible people to have to pay for the mistakes of others. Part of living in a free and independent society is taking personal responsibility.
You want to be free to take drugs and destroy your body? I want to be free to let you die.
I guess fat people shouldn't get health care either. Or people who drink booze. Or people who don't do however much exercise each day the state recommends. Or people who don't achieve their recommended daily intake of all the vitamins and minerals. Etc.
I've taken heroin three times. My girlfriend has never taken heroin.
In the last 20 years I've been to see a doctor on three occasions (an eye infection, swollen wrist tendons, tonsilitis), and have needed no hospital treatment. In the last ten years my girlfriend has had two different types of cancer, broken two bones, and consultations leading to an operation to remove an overactive parathyroid gland.
I also have been donating blood regularly for the last 7 or 8 years and haven't missed a donation.
You sound like a responsible adult who doesn't need to be protected from himself via the threat of violent kidnapping.
I agree with you, Mike (with charities providing for those who can't pay their own way, coupled with lower taxes). Obviously you also include tobacco and alcohol in your definition of drugs, as these two have a much, much higher social cost than all the illegal drugs put together.
Also consider:
Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, Drug Policy in the Netherlands: Progress Report September 1997-September 1999, (The Hague: Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, November 1999), pp. 7-8.
Even if meth (and/or other drugs) were legalized, hordes of people are unlikely to be rushing out to find a substitute to their booze and smokes on a Saturday night (which is unfortunate, due to the numerous choices of safer drugs available).
As for krokodil, this is just another case of prohibition causing great harm to society rather than reducing harm. Obviously without prohibition cheap, safe alternatives would be readily available and almost no one would use krokodil. Prohibition also alows for (cheaper) dangerous impurities/bulking to find their way into safer substances, such as MDMA.
Prohibition does very little to influence usage rates, yet amplifies the social cost associated with certain substances. What good is it?
If just marijuana were legalized it would go a long way towards solving the problem. People want to get high, there should be at least one safe, legal way to do it. I don't think all or nothing is a logical way to think about it.
Alcohol is already legal. People still smoke weed or take hallucinogens / opiates / amphetamines, etc. There's no logic to your suggestion. Or any of your posts. Ever.
I'm sure those insurance companies would absolutely love that. No need to pay anything to anyone unless he has perfect health. Do you have perfect health?
Where's the limit anyways? Blood test proves you may have once used some hard drug -> no treatment despite million dollar insurances? Obese person with heart problems -> that's fine.
So doing damage to your own body by taking drugs is bad but doing damage to your body by eating too much or eating wrong is not?
Yeah, i'm certainly proud of my drug useage.
Junkie? Far from it. I smoke a lot of weed but thats the only drug i do often.
Acid i generally only do that maybe 6-8 times a year, have only had 5 pills since the start of 2012, had a nitrous session for the first time this year a week ago.
So yeah, FAR from junkie. Never stuck a needle in me and never been addicted to any substance.
Addiction can be overcome with moderation. If you set yourself limits, addiction is a very low chance. As for health hazard, as above...set yourself limits.
Moderation is key, nearly everything is bad for you if you over-do it.
as for "krokodil"
a cold water extract of a fairly large dose of codeine does me just fine.
pretty hard to die from unless you're using a mask and pass out with it on, then suffocate.
If you ever get to the point you pass out, you start breathing automatically once your body realises its not getting any oxygen.
With all that being said, still the quickest way to kill braincells since you're essentially depriving yourself of oxygen for a little bit
I don't know the details, he was at a party, not sure how it happened. I can't imagine he was stupid enough to strap a mask on but you never know. He was a bass player, also called Kev.
