So frustrating that they care more about 'fog' weather that actually isn't weather at all, [it's just an effects filter] and other asthetical junk and their tyre model is worse than rF1's...
Rift and Motion rig

I've tried this particular rig. Well it feels nice when you can feel every bump on the track. But you need to get used to it. At first it's really challenging and hard to keep your car on the track forces are so distracting and also more you counter-steer, more this rig gets more dynamic, and trust me - it's really hard to stay focused when you are spining together with such a machine, haha.
So did I just waste my money on some old-fashioned TrackIR?

Thanks, I'll give it a try when my dev kit arrives, but I think the support broke in some newer version of the file. That's why it would be handy to have the one that works for sure.
Apparently that one was last modified on July 15th
Got my dev kit today, that file worked just fine with LFS. The "hacky" head tracking keeps slowly going off center though, requiring a manual centering keystroke every 5 mins or so... native Oculus support please?

All I can say is, VR is going to be a game changer. This is the future, that much is certain. You have to try it to understand it, but it is mind blowing how much depth and awareness it brings, even with the ultra low resolution dev kit prototype. Driving something like an LX4 or MRT really gives you a feel how close to the ground those cars actually run, and the depth inside a road car cockpit is amazing. I keep wanting to try to reach over and touch the dashboard and side mirror!

It's also the first time I've felt that head tracking doesn't completely "disconnect" me from the car - like TrackIR does. When I get in to a slide using TIR with my head turned, all hell breaks loose and I have no idea what the car is actually doing. Not so with the Rift, I can just look out the side windows and pull an awesome slide and keep on driving, it feels fantastic.
Damn you guys are cool.

The link (above) for DX8 to DX9 converter shows 3 download links...one each for Silent Hill, GTA and Mafia. The instructions above don't specify which one to d/l. Am I missing something?
Really hope they sort out native support for this!!!

I used Silent hill version. Also be sure you use his exact Perception. This is how my LFS folder structure looks now:
See attachment.

Brilliant!! Downloaded the "Silent Hill" version...that did the trick!

This is quite amazing. The added dimension is very immersive. No longer are you "staring thru a window" at a simulated racing track, but you are now on the racing track. The sensation of feeling like you are physically in the game is so astonishing.

Thank you for detailing the extra steps above to get this working. Very much appreciated!
uploaded again perception
After getting my hands on a oculus rift last week and Scawen confirming he is working on 3d support for lfs I thought I would say how excited I am for this. Yes the oculus dev kit isn't detailed enough yet for a racing game but with a 1080p or higher version around the corner I can't wait! The sense of immersion in iracing is outstanding but you can't focus far enough in front to see where the corners / braking zones are. Makes you feel like you are sat in the cockpit though!

how much does the hands not in vision thing annoy you?
I haven't noticed it yet so it must not annoy me too much but I haven't used it much for iracing, just trying out all the demo's etc.

that's good to hear
Quote from Alric :[...] and Scawen confirming he is working on 3d support for lfs [...]

He did? Where?

Edit: you mean this (referring to this). I seriously doubt that's the "real" Scawen. If the LFS devs were active in social medias surely they'd let us know officially with a link on the front page of lfs.net, for example.

Edit 2: According to Flame it actually is Scawen. Well then that's awesome news and I stand corrected!
As soon as an update is available from Scawen I will get testing with my oculus rift and try help give some feedback because I can only see the oculus rift get more & more popular and improve the technology quickly!
Just got my hands on the oculus. Will be setting this up asap!
