There are other Simulations that ModTools offer. They have great graphics, great sound, infinite number of cars and tracks ..... and these simulations also have unfriendly and insulting users. The whole thing has less to do with the development than with the people themselves. Some just love to be in a bad mood and distribute their sweets.
Scawen once said something like:
"Lfs does not make your life better". And he is right. Especially with people who only want to look for mistakes from others. Seek your own mistakes, that makes your life better. xD
Even though I don't know how you got those numbers, as you said yourself, the majority are demo racers, so what's the point on buying a license when you are restricted to demo content to have some good racing?
Hmm, I wonder what I really said. That doesn't sound right, because LFS is supposed to be a form of entertainment. That *should* be a small part of "making your life better" just as watching a good film or reading a book can do.
Definitely we all should relax, have fun and play around a bit and that is a good thing and this is my intention for LFS.
There is also an educational aspect to it, in the sense that a lot of people have learned more about driving, physics, racing and so on. As it becomes more realistic, the educational aspect improves. On my side with the physics and on Eric's side the structure of race tracks, roads and so on. This is also supposed to be a small part of "making your life better" if you want to put it that way.
Of course, if it becomes an irritation or a frustration, you should move on. We have an email notification system so we can let you know when there is an update.
In no way is LFS supposed to be a thing which people sit around for years waiting for updates and becoming increasingly angry. Anyone who does that is bringing it upon themselves.
Oh, forgive me if I misinterpreted that. Sometimes my english is not enough to understand everything 100% correctly. I felt like you said then (with my words) :
"Relax .... we're working hard on it but it's LFS and not a world formula that will turn your life upside down". That was a few years ago. But as I said ..... my lousy English... ....
For me it was Live for Speed that inspired me to start making short videos / editing etc and I still have many ideas for a new videos.
So yes, Live for Speed has made my life better. Thank you.
Absolute. I do not want to be misunderstood. LFS is great and has been improving my life for many years. But after all these years of development, it makes no sense to put pressure on the developers here today through "insults". Things come when things come. And that's what makes LFS different from other developments. After all these years you should have learned to trust the developer. But some users behave as if LFS was the world's biggest formula or even a religion. They pretend that they have a "super better life" if the "New tire physics" finally appears .... or the Scirocco .... or modding tools. Honestly, I'm happy about everything that comes ....... but I will not be rude about what I've been getting for a long time. I bought LFS 3 times in the 15 years. For me and as gifts. And secretly, I really wish that it never stops coming out of his alpha phase.
I think that the one thing that makes LFS stand out of many other games, is the perfection that is delivered with every update/patch. Once Scawen decides he wants something, it never will be delivered being done half or broken, but always in the best way possible. Another thing is that he listens to what the community has to say or wants and if that's reasonable then he will try to put it in, again to the highest standard possible.
Thanks for the progress report
back to business with tire physics ? ^^
Agree on the entertaining part : LFS is pure fun because of its brilliant feeling. I learned so many things on how to handle cars that it will remain the reference for me ! I wish you to get even further when the tire physics will be ready for us (you know : rain, and more )
As you decided to use someones join date for your point, id like to use the fact that you have driven 8903 laps/77371 miles on LFS since you joined, that is ridiculous in terms of giving a sim a fair amount of use, it seems you gave up so long ago.
The many updates that have happened recently have been really great for the use of VR ect, and any future updates will be welcome, but i as you do also have a lot of lfs that we have not tried yet
You're the type of person who will moan about a product then when something is done you will find something again to moan about without really intending to use anyway
I dont know why people moan so much. I use LFS as a means to relax myself after hard days work.
In thursday, there was GTI Oval race, with packed server. And i do mean packed, 48 conns. Then on Friday you get Fox, that is usually packed also - last week many people couldnt even join, so Scawen should maybe think about making servers stronger, so we can have 50 racers on grid and maybe 60 connections.
Yesterday i raced FBM with Mrc. Very fun race, i think it had over 30 cars on starting grid. Today I just might race LX6, but could also race XRT if I'd like that more.
Lack of races you say? I hardly have enough time to practice and race in all the races I'd like to race.
Lfs for me has only one problem. And that is getting new guys in, and getting them to respectable level. Because nowadays, on competitive races, if you are too slow you dont even qualify for a race. Skill level is quite high overall.
Sitting here an complaining won't make them more! If it's not enough, make some yourself! It's not devs, who make the races,it's the community! It was always like that and it won't change. If you want something,do something!
Really looking forward to this update when it eventually surfaces. I've been playing LFS for over 7 years so it will certainly be exciting to receive such a significant graphical update. The screenshots look very promising.
I'm sure this has probably been mentioned several times already but I feel like this update, since it is focused around improving the graphical qualities of the game, would benefit from an increase in resolution of skin downloads from LFS World.
I spend a lot of time creating my own skins in Photoshop and I always feel a bit disappointed that most players can only see a very low-resolution 512px versions of them once they are downloaded from LFS World. I am aware we have the option to download 1024px skins in exchange for a small payment, but that is still a low resolution in itself and I suspect only a small percentage of players actually choose to do this after already purchasing a license for the game.
Sadly, it is fact that the vast majority of players are going to remain looking at 512px versions of our skins whilst playing online in LFS, which is unfortunate as these low-resolution versions are particularly unsightly especially in mid-2019 when high DPI monitors are such commonplace. For players who use VR headsets, it likely appears even worse and disrupts the immersion of racing online in virtual reality.
It is my opinion that the default resolution for skin downloads should be increased to 2048px with the options still available for 512/1024px downloads for players who struggle with slower internet connections. It seems silly to me how LFS World has actually allowed 2048px uploads for years, yet the players can only download a maximum of 1024px at an additional price.
I think this would make for a drastic difference to online gameplay and is surely not too difficult when the support is already there for 2048px uploads to LFS World. I sincerely hope it is something that can be implemented within the next update if possible.
There is a hacky solution for that. Use TexFactory to convert the downloaded .dds skins in the skins_x/skins_y folder(s) and upscale them with some form of image upscaler (Waifu2x is a decent free one, I personally use GIGAPIXEL). That way you're not putting any extra strain on LFS servers, yet you still get high-res skins although they wont look exactly the same as the original skins since you're upscaling from 512x or 1024x.
Does you really think that having NO deadlines at all in a software development process is a good idea and good methodical approach from the perspective of the time flow?
Despite the calling the core developer of LFS a fraud and liar, those banned users did really made an input of sensible review of the user experience that has been accumulated in decades, that really has been enjoyed the code you have created. And the fact that is painful in this situation, is that it is maintained like a some sort of in socialism machine, where the one party rules your country, your life and everything. Surely you need an income, to be paid by the product you have created, because it is really, really good and unique in a highly competitive area, but the way it is executed from a perspective view is very depressing. Very. Perfectionism is a very highly valued quality, but when it gets toxic, it is a self shot bullet in a leg.
LFS was really big in 00s, but now, to me, and I am a one little grain of sand in all your user DB, LFS has become a very depressing place to race, to open the LFSForum, to read the messages and progress reports, which of course are great, but inner you still know, that what is the point of all that due to facts what I wrote above.
Something is not right, people feel that. Some say it calm, some loud, others rude, surely the last is not the best, depends of how it has hit them.
Good luck in providing quality content, but the way competition and possibilities attracts e.g. Italians, and how dynamic it has become in every near country sim community 1500km around my location (time zone), LFS just has been put in a shadow forever. Surely, it is beautiful that such a software of a very little team like this in conjunction with the work, support of the Victor and Eric modelling, simulation is really that well written and demands very low hardware to be executed and run on, but it must be said, that it has became is less attractive in the due to cheaper and better basic computer hardware accessibility for people around the most part of the globe.
And please do not tell me to go outside, get a life, do sports, ride a bike - I do it a lot and love cycling, as you do, Scawen, and the life goes on and everyday worries and duties takes most part of the time, energy and sources as it does for everyone of us, but the free time to connect the pc wheel and run the sim, car, course and compete the others to practice the skills, this product has become the least attractive and most likely if said above continues, will stay, in the list of best software of this kind, whilst it has been on the stable top for many years. This is another quite long term user end experience, calm call for the sake of a little brighter future in software that made to gain new experience, met many new people, became friends or contacts, that know and help each other being off the LFS online racing communities decade ago.
If you have read this far, sorry for the time it took, and thank you, if it somehow made you think in little different perspective about the user end of this product. And sorry for my English if it does not meet high standards.
I guess it's a workaround of some sorts, to upscale the skins, but any kind of image enlargement is going to result in loss of quality especially when working with something as small as 512px to start with. It would be real nice if the LFS developers would just add support for 2048px skins and make it standardised across multiplayer for everyone. That way, we truly can appreciate the efforts of skin creators whilst enhancing the online visuals at the same time, both for players who use HD displays (almost everyone) and those who use VR headsets. I see no reason for this not to be possible when LFS World has allowed uploads in 2048px for as long as I can remember.
As someone who creates skins myself, I think the current system of forcing players to top-up their accounts to access to 1024px skin downloads is frustrating, because not only is 1024px still considered low-res these days, but also, only a small percentage of players will actually do this (certainly less than 10%) and for everyone else it results in them viewing crummy 512px low-resolution renderings which looks AWFUL no matter how much effort you put into creating the skin. Which raises the question, why even bother creating them in the first place?
Let me just say, I think it is fantastic how we can create skins in editing software like Photoshop/GIMP and import it straight to LFS hassle-free. It is far better than in-game livery editors like what you find in the Forza Motorsport games, for example. But I think it is bitterly disappointing how other users can not view your creations in the quality they were intended to be viewed.
LFS is making my life better for sure! Many laps on blackwood with XFG have saved me from driving off the road when I was young and dumb when I came too fast off the highway into a corner on the exit ramp and it suddenly started pouring down rain. I handled the understeer like a boss, thanks to LFS.
Also, I think the people who are so hungry for updates will never be pleased. I've seen it in other places. They just want more and more because they have a short attention span.
LFS is a great simulator. It lacks some things here and there but I think it's the best right now.
I am using it as a training tool and as a racing environement with a lot of practice sessions (and sometimes I want to stay alone on the track with my "christine").
The driving is perhaps virtual but the sensations are real with LFS.
And don't forget that a real racer has only one car for the entire season (with five or six tracks as a schedule). I think LFS users must do the same thing (stay with one car to learn it and find its limits).
At the same time for us Scawen is the Messie. And if, from time to time, he don't change the water in wine we are all lost.
I'll just point out that I tried Project Cars.
I BOUGHT and tried RFactor2 when it came out.
I BOUGHT and tried Asseto Corsa, along with 4 DLC's.
But when I have the time I play LFS. And I really believe that of the times I managed to hold the car in slide in real life, most of the time I did it cause of what I learned in LFS.
