AWS 2021 - Round 2
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2021
Round 2

Monday,18th January
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

Round 2 brings AWS 2021 series to Caribbean island of Jamaica,to Fern Bay race circuit. This will be a return of Fern Bay's shortest standard configuration in the league, but unlike in 1st two AWS seasons,it will be run with RB4 and carry the name "Jamaican Trophy". The 745 meters long track consists of short front straight,a wide hairpin as turn one, closely followed by two 90° left right turns combination, which leads the course off paved surface to dusty back "straight",featuring a jump. A wide opening turn 4 leads the short course back to front straight and the lap is complete - possible to do in less than half minute if you're really good! As usually the race with RB4 will be a tyre management race,Race Green Events offers custom made pitlane for those failing to deal with overheating tyres.

After round 1 the defending champion Botsi took lead in series standings by scoring all possible points so far,but AWS features different racing conditions and champion must master them all to be the best - the following rallycross round might create some changes in championship battle. With 5 rounds still ahead, every driver still has a shot for titles and money prizes - even a new entry has realistic chances!

Round 2 featured a race in LFS's shortest standard configuration and with same attendance level as in round 1,the track was very filled in both sessions, creating new problems for AWS competitors. Despite complete lack of protests,2 drivers still managed to gain administation's attention and earned disqualifications for much more contacts than normal rallycross fender rubbing.

With defending champion and current series leader not attending, everyone had the chance to gain positions on him in series table,R.Kardol did this most effictively - he started from outside of 3-wide front row, moved into lead in 10th lap and led the remaining 71 laps to score his 1st AWS racewin, taking also the bonus point for fastest lap of the race. Unite started from middle of the front row and eventually returned to 2nd position after few positions swaps. Upsas finished 3rd and that also starting from outside position of a grid row. 2019 series champion Sobis scored a bonus point for setting the fastest lap in qualifying, but after leading first 2 laps, conceded the lead and slipped down to 6th position in finish.

2nd place finish and win in the recent round puts R.Kardol in series lead after 2 of 6 rounds and 7 points ahead of closest rival Unite, who is closely followed by defending FXR Master Dzidoris. Defending series champion Botsi has slipped down to 5th position and is 13 points gap to delete.

R.Kardol takes also 3 points lead over Unite in both RB4 Master and Cross Challenge standings - the latter will be decided in 4th round in Blackwood's Rallycross circuit.

Also Rookie of the Year standings leader did not attend 2nd round and also here 2nd place owner stepped up to take lead - Fatass now is current best rookie and has 6 points lead over closest rival Twincam.

Teams Championship leaders were represented by sole driver, but it did not harm Team S1DUS' lead much - defending champions RGA were able to reduce the gap by a single point and still trails by 12 points,B2R stepped up to 3rd position, another 15 points behind. Situation in top of the Nations Cup table remained status quo - both leaders Finland and Lithuania scored same amount of points and still is 8 points apart in favour of Finland,Netherlands is still 3rd,but already 20 points behind lead.

3rd round will be the 1st oval round - it will be the return of Rockingham 150. The 4-turn Rockingham oval will torture the juice out of RB4's tyres with high loads in turns,so the race will be a patience game. After this round series standings will be properly shaped up and show the tendencies for most of the awards.
