AWS 2023 - Round 4
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2023
Round 4

Monday,23rd January
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

After 3 rounds with brand new cars for the league, the round 4 of AWS returns to it's "basics" - the FXR has been used more than every other car in this league and has been used in every single of 11 previous Winter 200 editions. This round surely has a potential to mix up standings a bit as oval racing requires slightly different skillset, while success heavily depends on driver's ability to team up with their competition. As always in the oval rounds we will use hotlap qualifying to ensure solo effort being decisive in order to take high grid positions. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

This is the last round of season's 1st half after which first conclusions can be drawn. But to start any conclusions, first it's needed to complete the fastest AWS round - FXR's are reaching speeds close to 300km/h mark when 2 or more cars work together effectivelly. But lack of such effectiveness can send drivers to back of the field for a frustrating 200 kilometers run. Patience and and experience will be key factors to clinch winner's honor in this one - will the list of 11 previous winners extended or maybe someone will go into history as first 2-time winner of this round?

The fastest round of the season this year was round 4 - the Winter 200 has always been a different round and has produced different results. 18 cars on the grid is repeated 2nd highest number for this round (last year's edition tops the chart with 20 attendees) and once again the round produced thrilling race with unexpected turns of events. The result is the 12th different race winner in 12th time of running.

The US-american Happyd made his AWS league debuth this monday and celebrated it with a win straight away. Despite being in chaser position for majority of the race, with 7 laps to go all 4 leading cars were together for a short while, but soon Happyd with his collegue run away and in the final lap sprint passed him to lead the only lap that really counts - the last one. Championship standings 2nd placed driver Thehemuli could not set anything against his rival and finished 2nd for the 2nd round in row and for 3rd round in total this season. The 2019 Winter 200 winner Sobis was in charge of the race by being one of 2 leaders, but eventually a big mistake destroyed his and his collegues car's,so they could only limp to finish - 3rd place finish for Sobis.

The series leader A.Valta wasn't too relevant in fight for win this round as he finished 8th in the race, but still keeps standings lead after half of the season, but his lead has been decreased to 6 points. Thehemuli is still 2nd - this round brought him closer to leader and further from his main rival for 2nd place - Lorenzo is still 3rd,but now already 10 points away from 2nd place. This round was also part of the fight for the Oval Trophy - Happyd leads this competition by 2 points over Thehemuli and 5 points over Sobis. The 2nd and deciding round for this award is the round 7 in Rockingham Oval using a slower car.

Joining the series and winning straight away put Happyd in lead of Rookie of the year award chase - he is 10 points ahead of the driver with backwards spelled name, previous leader Richard has fallen down to 4th position due not attending.

In Teams championship the league hosts still keeps the lead and the gap to closest rival shrunk by just a single point - the biggest difference is that the closest rivals are now Master Race car,who took over 2nd place in standings. Zafiralis fell down to 3rd place, losing 4 points to MRc. 4th round,4th time most points scored - Finland does not have much competition this season and their lead has grown to 46 points over Czechia. Italy is still 3rd and also losing grasp for 2nd place chances as they're 32 points behind Czechia.

The 2nd half of the season will bring racers to Fern Bay in Jamaica for some slippery racing - the classing rallycross track will bring another heavy challenge for the racers with the 380 horsepower RS1 Kenji. This is where the drivers will be forced to manage the tyres through probably the hottest race of the season. The series will return again after normal 2 weeks break.
