This is Crashmaaas !!! - the X-mas derby event 2023

Got some rage after a race?
Are you mad to someone?
Want to put your anger on someone to see his car upside down?
Want to release some steam while racing?
Or you are just naturally aggressive driver but all events too soft for you?

Well,here is your solution,because
This is CRASHMAAAS !!!
the 13th annual X-mas derby event 2023
Tuesday, 26th december, 18:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET

Are you superstitious? This is the 13th edition of something that results in your car being reshaped heavily,so being scared of the "evil" number will not change a thing. And for those who consider 13 being their lucky number - feel free to try your luck and survive this annual madness, because for the 13th time - Race [un]Green Events presents: the chance to take your 140 horsepower rear wheel drive XR GT and don't feel sorry if you happen to destroy it - because this is an event where you have a risk to get your car finished before crossing the finish line. The event will have only few basic rules regarding behaviour on track, otherwise - feel free to impress your opponents physically, divebombing and P.I.T. maneuvers more than welcome! Event will consist from different parts - qualifying, where each driver just sets his laptimes to decide starting places, heats, where the fight starts to get physical for the chance for final, the final, where best will be decided and a bonus run, where everyone will get a final chance to let out rage on masses!

The event starts 18:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET with hotlap qualifying, everyone who wants to take part, should be in server before the start of it,but arrival deadline is 20 minutes after start of qualifying (it's the minimum lenght of it),everyone who comes later will be able just to watch and take part only in bonus run - noone without qualifying will be allowed to take part in main event.

Fern Bay is and stays the LFS true classic,so it seems we will never leave this place! Bullring V3 is still the place to be,also this year we'll use the very same layout as several years before and probably few years after.

The track surface is 99% grass (not that the 1% of tarmac would make much difference anyway),one lap is 330 meters long and width variates from 10 to 20 meters and it even has a slight elevation! Layout file can be found as attachment from one of previous year's threads and in server, feel free to have practice runs to be familiar with track or just store the layout for own needs.

Now some information about the parts of this event:

Qualifying:

The hotlap qualifying will be used here. Every driver will have 1 outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, the best lap counts as per standart LFS qualifying. The order will be decided by connection list - from top to bottom, late joiners will have a chance for their run after initial order. Each driver will receive 2 simple commands from race administration:
[drivername] - join - driver joins and stops his car right before entry of track (right before the yellow line)
[drivername] - go! - driver enters the track for his qualifying run
Everyone else is expected to stay in spectators until called for his run! To speed up things,we will run 2 cars on track at same time. Track is just over 20 seconds long, this means cars will have around 10 seconds between them,so noone should disturb other driver normally. But in case someone spins and loses a lot of speed,he is expected to allow other driver to pass in case he is near behind!
Qualifying will determine starting order for most of runs!

Heats:
Heats will be 10 laps long and will be used to determine drivers eligible for the final. Heat run amount and levels (as semifinal or quarterfinal) will depend from number of drivers taking part, but every heat will be run with no more than 8 drivers, best 2 finishers atomatically qualifies for next level (final or semifinal),except the last chance run where more drivers could start if needed and it will be just 6 laps long!
For example - if there are 13-24 drivers, all will be divided into 3 heats (from qualifying results - 1st in heat 1,2nd - heat 2,3rd - heat 3,4th - heat 3,5th - heat 2,6th - heat 1,7th - heat 1,etc). Best 2 from each heat qualifies for final, the rest will run in last chance run for remaining 4 postions in final.
If there are more than 24 drivers, the first round of heats will determine best 18 to take part in semifinal heats which will be run just like in example.

NOTE - before leaving unhappy after first failure,it's worth to remember that everyone will have 2 chances to qualify for next round! So if you fail to make next round during your quarter- or semifinal heat, you'll have another chance in relegation/last chance run! For better understanding, here is a simple chart that shows idea of advancing through heats (drivers and heat count are subject to change from amount of atendees)

The final:
The final is the run where the event official winner will be decided - it will be 20 laps long and only best 10 drivers through qualifying and heats will be able to fight for bragging rights! The starting order will be decided partially from heats and qualifying - for example if there were 3 heats, all 3 heat winners will start from top 3 places, order for that will be determined by qualifying results, all 3 heat 2nd place finishers will take 4th-6th places on start with same ordering, last chance run qualifyers will be ordered just by qualifying results.

Battle Royale:
This run is for This is Crashmaaas !!! overall winners only! All the past event winners (including the new one) are set in the short 6 laps exhibition battle to sort out between themselves who is the best without any outside influence! Starting order - random, because the real champion does not care about grid position!

The Bonus run:
It's the ultimate carnage - everyone in server will be able to take part in this 20 lap run,the best part - starting order will be random,so you could only blame LFS randomizer for a bad starting position. As usually bonus run will have some new layout additions, some a bit experimental, some pretty much classic, some might put you out of race, some will help you to put others out.
As always the official part of the event ends with finish of Bonus run,but the afterparty will continue as long there are crashhappy drivers in server - 10 lap races on the Bonus run track just for fun, where we will allow all cars (including mods) and remove password of server!

Even this is a almost rule-free event on track while racing, the event format asks some tough admining,so everyone is expected to behave in server and follow admin's instuctions and these guide lines:

Starting of a run:

Everyone will be simply gridded in default formation - 1st position is on left side,2nd in middle and 3rd - on right side of each row.
Make sure you don't jump the start as LFS will either give you DT/SG penalty or even spectate you - penalty will be replaced by 1 lap penalty, while spectate will mean that your heat is over!

Racing rules:
Everyone is expected to follow clean racing rules... Yeah,right... This is crashmaaas! There are only these basic rules:
1. No wrong way driving - just anti-clockwise direction on track! In case you get spun heading wrong way, driver is expected to turn his car to right direction on full steering lock or reverse and make the J-turn.
2. No standing on track or massive slowing down - except the car is in undrivable condition/position,in that case feel free to leave your car as an extra obstacle for others and hope for someone's help.
3. No disturbing on non-finished drivers after finishing himself - once you cross the line to finish the heat, avoid any contacts with cars still running.
4. No rejoining during run - if the car is undriveable, rolled or outside the track, the run is over!
5. Have fun! (also a mandatory rule Tongue)

NOTE: After having some incidents in previous years, special attention on rule #3! If you finish your run,you may not interfere others in any way! Serious infractions will lead to disqualification. Also 2nd rule is ignored more and more,so repeated violations might receive ban from this and other RGE events. Let's keep it cool and fair for everyone!

Server behaviour rules:
  • follow the instructions of admins
  • no spamming in chat (few known spammers might be quickly kicked if they don't behave)
  • no insulting others in any way (other than crashing them while in a official run)
  • join only when allowed
  • no voting for restart/end/qualification

my highlight of the year lets go
Server is now online!
Unfortunatelly Airio tends to corrupt the stats files when using mods, only solution is to clear them - that means the top chart is empty once again...
About airio corrupting stats with mods, what we discovered so far.

Since mod name are represented by 3 arbitrary bytes, which can take any value, when it just so happens that one of those bytes is a character from ASCII table that represents a "line feed" (new line character), the stats table structure gets messed up, because all of a sudden there is a new line. This is not so bad, but the problem comes when you start airio next time, it sees invalid entries in stats table and automatically delete invalid stuff = loss of data. One of the bad mods that cause us this problem was mr been car with a chair on roof - ironySmile There may be more such mods..

LF (line feed), HEX 0A, DEC 10
CR (carriage return), HEX 0D, DEC 13

If one of the bytes in a mod name is 0A or 0D, airio stats will get corrupted, as soon as someone makes a pb with that mod.

Oh no, my time! Omg omg omg
oh my goodness me
Just like for past 3 years,SimBroadcasts.tv will offer you the chance to follow the action on track via livestream:

Make sure you mark the date - either for jumping into action yourself or at least watching the show!
Luckily I remembered to add a new run to the schedule, which came into mind last year - the Battle Royale!
Quote :Battle Royale:

This new heat will take place between final and bonus run - let's hope for proper champions action!

Server is now password protected, password is in 1st post right under the section everyone should be familiar with - rules!

Please DO NOT post server info in random places without leading info to this thread - otherwise too many people join who have absolutely no clue what's this event is about and what is it's format! (and leave after setting qualifying time, thus taking away chance to race from those who want to race)

Event live results sheets for heat tracking purposes:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1o0WnhWzf8xW40ElXAgPUkVVsUomAIYnnVlDvODuL4e0/edit#gid=0
(this is where everyone can see in which heat he is,I can't answer everyone personally during the event)
The server upgrade to more slots resulted into more participants, setting a new all time record of 63! This also extended the event and also made the quarterfinal runs somewhat more...random... Still that's how this event works - besides pace and derby tactics you also need some luck. Since all 4 attending previous champions run out of the last one,we have a new champion added to the glorious list! Who? To receive answer either check replays or wait for official results!
All session replays attached.

Edit: The server will stay online until sunday with 5 laps on bonus run layout and all cars (including mods) allowed - feel free to join and invite friends for some crashing!

* PENALTIES :
JAM jesse & Ertti Eräreikä - receives a DISQUALIFICATION from event results for unsportsmanlike conduct of gaining unfair advantage over others by using 2 accounts for one user.

- - - - - - - - - -

For the past 3 years the event attendance somewhat stabilized as it was simply reaching server limits - 44-46 drivers were attending. However this year the server limit was raised, allowing more users to join server, thus beating the all time attendance record by 18. There were 63 results in qualifying, however research found evidence of just 62 persons being connected, resulting in one of the rare disqualifications... 4 previous champions attended, including the only back-to-back double champion, however none of them made into semifinal, meaning there will be a new one added to the long list.

Once again pure pace was important on the way to better results - all of the top3 finishers in event results qualified in top10,with another 3 top10 qualifyers being in the final, the lowest qualifyer in final set the 26th fastest laptime. However some tactical skills and plenty of luck is also required as the quarterfinal runs had way more drivers in them as usually expected, resulting 2 top10 qualifyers being eliminated before reaching semifinal.

Without a single champion in the semifinals list, the intrigue was high who will become the 11th different This is Crashmaaas !!! champion. As the dethroned defending champion mentioned - the crown stayed at "home" as his teammate was the one to cross finish line of the 20 lap finale first. The lithuanian B2R member Upsas qualified 6th and in the quarterfinal heat 6 he crossed the finish line first in solitude, advancing himself to semifinal directly. The early phase of his semifinal run was more difficult as he had to really fight through, however he still finished in the final ticket gaining 2nd place with a big advantage, meaning he'll start the deciding heat from 2nd row. The final started with usual shunts and hits, eventually Upsas worked up his way to lead, spending there 10 laps, however he caught back of the field and the way through it cost him lead for 3 laps, but the lithuanian fought back and return to the top of the field for last 4 laps to finish 1st just over a second ahead of competition. With this Upsas is the 11th different event champion and 2nd lithuanian.

Best of the rest was a seasoned rallycrosser and banger racer Joukeheddema from Netherlands. He was the one who broke winner's leading run temporary to lead 4 laps in the final, but lost the battle and had to chase the leader to finish 2nd. That must have been a dissapointment for him as it was the 1st heat he did not won - he went through both quarterfinal and semifinal heats with at least 3 seconds big gaps. The bottom step of the podium was taken by latvian A.Laipnieks, who set the fastest laptime in final, which was also the fastest laptime in all heats. Also he never saw a single relegation run as he won his quarterfinal heat, finishing 2nd in the semifinal, however the latter one had a bit close finish. The polesitter of final and early 2 laps leader Unite lost the lead in battles and was escorted out of track with 6 laps to go.

The brand new run "Battle Royale" featured 3 previous event winners (one left before the run) and the new one. Unfortunatelly the battle started with some pushing and bumping until the hairpin, where the only 2-time winner in the heat was taken out of track, then all 3 remaining drivers were seperated by a gap, making a 5 laps long parade run for remaining 3 drivers - the 3rd positioned driver slowed down to try to create some action by hitting leader, but Upsas' win was not affected and he took also the glory of this one. But the 3rd place finisher was not disqualified for braking the "no intentional slowdown" rule only because the finishing order was not affected.

The weirdly stacked grid for bonus run caused a huge traffic jam with only few lucky ones being able to run away quickly. One of them was the organizer, who was the only one to know the way around all the booty traps, but after leading the first 11 laps,he got involved into some battles and ended up rolling his car, leaving the fight for win wide open to few other high running survivers. Eventually the competitive chaos was won by Jamin, who gained the race lead with 3 laps to go and finished the intense survival carnage with 5 seconds gap to the brand new main event winner.

With more users being able to connect, more drivers were set up in the quarterfinal heats, increasing the luck part required to advance to next level. This means the system requires a little change - current idea is to add another level of runs (preliminary heats),where the (probably 20) best qualifyers won't take part advancing directly to quarterfinal, while rest have to fight through short preliminary heats to earn remaining 22 or 28 tickets to quarter final. Rest of the event course should stay the same. This will make more heats, more action, more crashing and also more more chances to advance for the better drivers. We still have about 11 months time to sort out all the details. Another detail what caused attention is qualifying, where more strict ruling on tyre warming will be added in future.

2024 version of This is Crashmaaas !!! will fall in the thursday,so the usual "GTi Thursday" will be limited to use of XRG in a very short unpaved bullring with most of the racing rules removed. So don't forget the date to return to this event so we can find out if 2024 will bring the 12th different winner,3rd different double winner or first ever tripple winner! Since the new winner was not present in teamspeak channel to provide interview with broadcasters, maybe we can have written winner's speach here?
