RETRO CUP 24 | Round 4

The drivers will negotiate around some of Berlin's historic monuments, like the Brandeburg Gate

SERVER Race Green Events

WHEN: Monday, 12th August
WHERE: Berlin Retro, a spectacular custom layout config!
WHY: Championship battles getting heated, racing getting closer, drama guaranteed!

After the first week break of the season, it's time to get back to work, Retro Drivers!!
Three races have passed by, and along with them tons of action, overtakes, controversies, incidents and all-around Retro drama!

The battles for the 3 main championships are still very open, and with 4 rounds still to go, everything can happen, even new joining drivers could be fighting for a title if they can perform right away from now on!

The upcoming tracks are pretty vary in characteristics, in order to offer a balanced champ battle among all the kinds of cars!

After a technical race in Fern Bay, next monday the drivers are going to face the ominous challenge of BERLIN.

Don't get too distracted by the surrounding monuments, you need 100% focus in this track!

BERLIN RETRO is a very fast track, with long straights interrupted by all sorts of corners: Turn 1 is a huge banked corner, reminiscent of the infamous AVUS oval section.

Then it goes into the city, between the houses, where the track gets more technical and twisty, before reaching the Obelisque hairpin and up towards Brandenburg's Gate.
But the drivers won't have much time to admire the monument, as they're descending again and flying towards the Kink, fastest corner of the track at 200 km/h for the faster cars, than they'll reach a new corner designed for this year's championship.

The train station complex: a fast right-left flick with a bump in the middle, that will unsettle the car a bit and make things little bit more fun going in the last, super fast sector!

POST RACE PENALTIES

ZFRL Thehemuli: 10 seconds penalty + Warning | Causing a collision - RG^Lorenzo
Mazdarati: 10 seconds penalty | Causing a collision - S.Martin
RG^NOSLE: 30 seconds penalty | Wrong Rejoin

PROTOTYPES

It was a dramatic race start in Berlin!!

Just after the lights went green and the cars turned left to approach the main straight, a contact happened between two of the title contenders, RG^LORENZO and ZFRL Thehemuli!

The ZFRL ace touched the back of the Race Green driver in acceleration, the McLarry's nose went under the Wessex and launched it into the air, dangerously in front of the raging peleton of cars behind!

Thankfully, no other drivers were involved in the incident: RG^Lorenzo however suffered heavy suspension damage and was forced to re-start from the pitlane, while Thehemuli managed to keep going despite dropping at the back of the field.

In front, poleman MAZDARATI started to dictate his pace, disappearing in front of the newcomers TAV-Suforr, Dani, BWGPeterfile and BWGC_Lennon!

In fact, this round featured the highest number of Prototypes cars so far! (7)

But Thehemuli's comeback was inevitable: he started lapping at record pace and overtook back all the GT's and the other prototypes, and launched himself back in the hunt of Mazdarati.

The dutch legend seemed to have things under control, but he had to make one more pit-stop compared to Thehemuli, who managed his car and tyres to perfection.
Mazdarati exited pit-lane after his last stop with just a 2 seconds gap over Thehemuli, who catched him with just 3 laps to go.

A fierce battle started: Mazdarati managed to hold back Thehemuli in the technical sections, while the finn jumped back in front in the fast straights, making the most of his Mclarry's power.
The scrap went back and forth for 2 laps, as the two main championship protagonists showed their best driving skills, pushing at the limits!

But further drama decided the race in the penultimate lap of the race: Mazdarati was following Thehemuli in the banked oval section, when the white silhouette of S.Martin's Porsche appeared in front.
Thehemuli passed the Porsche without problems, while Mazdarati made his trajectory calculations wrong, coliding with the Porsche and sending both into a costly spin.

It was clear track ahead for Thehemuli, who takes his second victory of the season in a crucial moment of the championship, ahead of his big rival Mazdarati, who closes off second.

Third place for the Rookie Dani, who scored his first podium in Retro Cup by staying out of trouble for most of the race, making the most of RG^LORENZO's issues.

The Race Green driver finishes 4th and slips further away from the leading duo of the championship.

GT PRO

GTPRO was once again the most crowded category of the event, with 10 cars taking the start of the race!
And it was again a Porsche Cammera JGT festival: /SRP/Master took a strong pole position and started strong in the race, keeping the aggressive pair of B2R Twincam and [MRC] jsk at bay in the first lap!

Drama and desperation for one of the big title contenders: RG^NOSLE made a shocking jump-start, and was forced to re-start the race from the pit-lane.
He re-joined too quick tho, didn't wait 30 seconds, and he'll get a further penalty at the finish line.

In front, Master managed to extend the gap on Twincam to 5-6 seconds and kept that gap in the first stint, before gaining progressively as the race went over the 30th lap.

At the end, he crossed the finish line with a comfortable 25+ seconds lead, a display of domination!
It's the first, great win of the season for SRP//Master who now becomes a proper championship contender for the GT class!

2nd in the race and more precious points in his title campaign is B2R Twincam, who finishes ahead of RG^NOSLE who managed to come back through the field in style after his false start!
With his 30 seconds penalty for wrong re-joining, he also keeps P3 by just a handful of seconds over [MRC] Jsk, who finishes P4.

O.A completes the Top 5, improving every race: he finishes ahead of [PM] Jam 616 who switched from Road Class to GT Class for this event.
#4 Inno closes the field: onboard of his Plover P2200 with a special German-Italian tribute livery, Inno is a consistent point scorer this season.

ROAD CLASS

Every race in this class is as close as it gets, but this Berlin Grand Prix was the tighest, most exciting race of the season so far!

Fern Bay winner, SGR Madjester, took a splendid Pole Position in his orange Piran Firefly, beating S.Martin and B2R Stiefla, while RG^M@ci3k ended P4.

The race start was hectic: Stiefla managed to jump in the lead of the race before the Oval section, but drama occoured in the following straight, when the GT drivers had to avoid the damaged Prototype of RG^LORENZO, spinning in the middle of the road.

RG^M@ci3k had to pull off a miracle save, avoiding the prototype car by the smallest of margins, despite making some minor contact with it.
In front, SGR Madjester and Stiefla swapped positions a couple of times in the first few laps, but RG^M@ci3k & S.Martin quickly closed the gap to the leading pair.

Four protagonists for one win: the Road Class group delivered great action all race long, with multiple drivers taking the lead at some point of the race, but the order changed constantly as none of them was able to create a gap on the rest!

Multiple times they were three or four wide into some of the most characteristic corners of the track, like the Brandeburg's Gate plaza, and they remained together till the penultimate lap, when Mazdarati's prototype collided with S.Martin at the oval, sending him into a spin.

Stiefla, RG^M@ci3k & SGR Majester remained at the front, fighting for the win till the very last sector, where Stiefla managed to create a little gap on the following duo.

It was victory for B2R Stiefla, best one of the season, ahead of RG^M@ci3k & Madjester, who crossed the line almost together!

P4 for S.Martin, a race of could have beens for him, taken out from contention with just a few chilometers left to spare!
