Kimi '07 World Champion
I'm posting this thread now so that in a year I can bump it and say I told you so. I'm sure Kimi will be F1 world champion for 07 with Ferrari.

Anyone disagree?
Disagree

McLaren for constructors, Hamilton for drivers title (Would be nice!!!!)

I think Kimi is in with a very real chance of walking away with the title next season, but I don't think it'll happen in his first year there........
deffo agree !!he will be with the best team nd his talent is eceptional
it's a steal for him.
Here's my thinking:

Kimi has immense talent;
Everyone on Bridgestone next year, Ferrari have used them since year dot creating a massive advantage for them.

Quote from thisnameistaken :It would be funnier if Alonso wins it again. Just imagine Kimi's face, or Todt's face! It would be hilarious.

that would be great. I am a Mclaren fan (know some of the blokes who work for them cos I used to play squash for Woking and some were members at my club), but I just can't see it. Mclaren seem to be all at sea since Newey and the others went to Red Bull.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Well I don't know how McLaren will run next year, but they seem to have made gains since Newey left.

You think? But they were much stronger last year. They haven't had a single win this year and the only pole they got was cos they accidentally underfuelled Kimi.

With his incredible bad luck, i don't think kimi will be 2007 champion. He's the fastest guy but without luck, you never get to the happy end.

Alonso would get it with his silver surfboard.

Bad luck or bad car!
Hah, you can bump this and say "I told you so!". That's funny

I'm a bit sceptic. It does look like he is cursed and that every car he drives just blows up and it did freak me out when I saw Schumi blowing up the Ferrari, not again?! But Sauber did it just fine on his first season, didn't it?
I hope it's Kimi and Kovalainen head to head next season fighting over the title, would be awsome. It's so crazy that from small country with population about 5 million like ours can have 2(and½) F1 drivers illepall

I would personally like to see Kubica, Heikki and Hamilton as world champ

I've always found it quite strange how many good drivers come out of Finland as you say. I guess it's got to do with sort of conditions out there building up good driving ability and as Kimi said a lot of familys let kids drive there cars at a young age on private land

I'm waiting for Coulthard to put out his annual "next year I'm going to win the championship" press release.

Seems like the same press release has already come out, but they cut and paste "Jenson Button" in for "David Coulthard"

Quote from thisnameistaken :Yeah, but Newey designed this year's car so how much of the performance deficit is down to him leaving? Kimi's been running strongly in recent races though, suggesting that they're still improving the car pretty well without Newey.

True, but it must be very difficult for a team to address problems with a design when the designer has left. The car seemed to have reasonable pace at the start of the season but the other teams appeared to move ahead more quickly than Mclaren.

Not sure I agree that Kimi has run well in recent races. Quali outside top 10 at Suzuka with Pedro down in 17th was it? Actually, I agree Kimi has run well. He's got the absolute max performance out of a poor car.

I think Kimi will win the title next year. Alonso will fight back occasionally but McLaren's reliability and speed issues keep him always one or two step behind the Ferrari. Massa has been improving all the time and I expect him to give decent opposition to Räikkönen on some races, but not always. He might surprizes us, though the chances are a bit low on that...

Drivers like Kubica and Rosberg can be anything between amazing and bad. I think Kubica will win at least one race on the next season, maybe Monaco or Hungaroring But the cars they are adriving won't let them on front row. I have no idea how Renault will perform with Fisico and Heikki. Renault has been strong on the first races, I don't expect any change o that.

(I just can't wait Alonso's comments about his team not helping him enough)
EDIT: and all the others are just bystanders
I really hope raikkonen to win the coming championsip, but he will be new in a new team (for him) in a new car, so that is not gonna be very easy

Quote from thisnameistaken :Don't you think it's a strange team to pick? They're probably going to be defending the constructors title next year. OK fair enough, promote Kovalainen if you think he's ready, but he's surely not ready to lead the team in a potential championship fight. I don't know why Fisichella is still there.

I think they are both good choises because (as far as I can tell) they both have similar driving style. The renaults in the last 2 season have been designed with Alonso's interests as primary goals, making the cars good for his driving style but bad for Fis'si. Now Renault can design their car with some grip on the front tyres too . Heikki has been proven fast but as a race driver I just don't know. A bit risky choise by Renault, but hard to tell yet..
Quote from thisnameistaken :Red Bull? They'll have Coulthard and Webber, and a Newey-designed car, and a choice between Ferrari or Renault engines. OK so it's never going to happen, but it would be sweet.

A good mid-pack finisher with the Hondas and Toyotas. And it is kinda last chance for both drivers to show that they deserve any more chances on F1.

And the 2nd Mclaren driver is still a mystery
I don't know if he will be champion, but I hope he offers a good fight along with Alonso, Hamilton and Kubica.

Quote from Hyperactive :Drivers like Kubica and Rosberg can be anything between amazing and bad.

In which race Rosberg has been "amazing" this year? illepall

His first ever appearance when he set fastest lap maybe? Was it Bahrain?
Quote from Hyperactive : ... (regarding Webber and DC at Red Bull)

Not so sure about that. Webber's not been in the game even half as long as DC, so if it's anyone's last chance it's Coulthard's. In the late 90s he was Mika's wingman and McLaren ruled but, tbh, this was more down to superb machinery (and the lack of a competitive opponent) than elite skills. Since Mika's retirement from F1 DC's really just been making up the numbers and only occasionally fighting for points positions. Webber's still relatively new and still has a lot to prove to people - I think he would've gone a long way toward proving it this year had it not been for the criminally unreliable car he was driving (not to mention a few careless accidents which he unwittingly became involved in). Perhaps his time with RB will be a bridge for him, who knows? I'm not that excited about him racing a RB car, whatever engine's in it, but I do think it will at least be more reliable than his Williams (I don't think it could actually be much worse). He really shouldn't stay at RB for too long - if he performs well (and the car stays intact) he should use that as leverage to secure a spot in a better team. I wonder what he could do with a Renault, McLaren or Ferrari...

Whatever happens, can someone please remove James Allen from the commentary booth (forcibly if necessary)? I don't think I can take another one of his screaming orgasms when Jense wins his next race...

BTW, shouldn't this thread be in "General Racing"? It's hardly what you'd call "Off Topic"
Quote from deggis :In which race Rosberg has been "amazing" this year? illepall

He had a very impressive start to the season, and then kind of faded into the background a bit after a few races...

Quote from speedfreak227 :I'm waiting for Coulthard to put out his annual "next year I'm going to win the championship" press release.

Haha, yeah. I don't remember the last time Barichello didn't have his annual speech on the subject. Every year, without fail while he was #2 next to Schumacher at Ferrari, he would say he's going to win next year. Lets see what he says this year!

I have bookmarked this so I can bump it next year if that isn't taken care of already! To be honest I'm not really sure how things are going to pan out next year. I should say something crazy like R Schumacher or Coulthard for champion then if that somehow happened, you guys will all think I'm all knowing and bow down to me. Haha.
Off topic (sortoff) anyone know what the 07 likely team lineups will be next season?

On topic- I think it will be close between alonso and Kimi, no one else to trouble them tbh

Here's my prediction:

Ferrari - Kimi and Phillipe
Renault - Giancarlo and Heikki
Mclaren - Fernando and Pedro or Lewis
Red Bull - Mark and David
Honda - Jenson and Rubens
Toyota - Ralf and Jarno
BMW - probably Nick and Robert
Spyker - looks like Christian and Tiago
Super Aguri - Tacu and maybe Anthony Davidson
STR - not sure

Nearly forgot Williams. he he - shows how awful they were this season.

I reckon Nico and maybe Gary Paffett. Can see him switching to Williams. Pretty sure he won't get a race drive with Macca
STR has confirmed that Speed and Luizzi will continue to throw them into the scenery in 07.

Everything is pretty much confirmed except McLaren second seat which I'll guarantee being Lewis, BMW which again I reckon will be Nick & Kubica. Spyker is still a bit open, most likely the driver with the most $sponsorship. Super Aguri will have Sato but not so sure about the second seat, Davidson has strong links with it.
