MP3 player for my girlfriend, which one?
It's my girlfriends birthday coming up and I want to get her an MP3 player. Thought I'd ask around here as I haven't really kept up to date with all this stuff. Any advice on good brands, or specific models, good prices, functionality... preferably something a bit girly, like pink? hehe..

Oh, if possible I want to be able to do field recordings with it sometime (might as well get some use out of it as well )

?
ipod.. how much money you got is what really matters though; or atleast willing to spend
Anything not ipod?

What's the deal with Ipod anyway? They're so expensive. And can't you only use Ipod MP3's with Itunes?

I don't want to spend much more than $200 (aus) dollars.
you can get ipods for cheap now; there are other ways of uploading songs onto them without using itunes i believe.. its just that they are the widest known out there; i really suggest looking at ads if you get any in any form of newspapers or magazines etc. and look around at computer stores near you

can really get cheap mp3 players now, it just depends on what your looking for; only reason why ipods are so well expressed is because they've gone through so many generations and are just well kept

but there are deffinetly others out there that can be much cheaper, but there aren't any others out there that have video like the new ipods that i can think of off the top of my head
lol, get a girl an ipod.
iPods are typical for a girls choice of mp3 player. But they'd be happy with any of the nice Creative Zen ones too. Actually I know a few girls that prefer the newer Zens over the iPods:

Tweak, I checked out the Creative range, and I think something like the Zen Nano Plus fits the bill. Lot's of good testimonials from folk around the web too. I'll stroll on down to the computer store tomorrow and check 'em out.

And yes they come in pink!

cheers guys
That is a small little player. Has simple controls and the basics pretty much. But if you wanted something a tad bigger and more featuresque, the Zen Micro is a decent one for the price iirc.
U sure that girls these days like things that are *girly* ? i mean, my gf would puke at the site of a "pink" mp3 player... dunno...

check out mobiblu

it's extremely tiny , can be worn like a jewel or whatever, hanging from the earphones.
i have a sony one its pretty good to i can hold 1000 songs in it look on ebay or something for makes and models
I decided to go with the Zen Nano +. I was a bit put off by some of the reviews of the Micro because it seems like so many people were having troubles with them.

She also wants a yoda toy(!?) as she's just recently become a StarWars convert. A bit late if you ask me, but anyway..

I said that you can't get them but that people do often make them out of plasticine (usually with googly eyes) and give them away as presents, so I think that's what I'll do.
i have an mp3 player u may like ...
I have an MP3 player .. its a toshiba gigabeat ... pretty good i like it better than an ipod .. comes in all different models and comes in ... yes pink
ok, next question.

Good (sound) quality earbud headphones? Or something appropriate for travelling...

Any recommendations?

I had a creative labs product once. It was a hard drive version (can't remember what one - Zen Pro?... 40GB :S) and the sound would cut out in one earphone.
Everytime i got a new set they'd go in a month or so. Turned out to be a problem with the soldering inside the socket of the mp3 player. And also it had chronic problems with the drive - warrenty ran out after a month i think....

I now have a Sony walkman 6Gb thing (NW-A1000) which has been a very good choice. No complaints at the moment... Although sony software is so slow, it'd be quicker to code it yourself.

For a more affordable sony mp3 i'd go for one of their stick mp3 players - it's pink too!

nope, it was a (after much searching) Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra
Maybe a bit offtopic..
but for Ipod (Archos, Iriver) users, who want some advanced settings (and more) I suggest Rockbox.
http://www.rockbox.org/, an OS for MP3 players

Gapless playback (with lame -nogap)
5-band fully-parametric equalizer, and crossfeed
High-resolution volume control, 64-100 levels (model-dependent)
Advanced crossfading
ReplayGain support (volume normalization)
JPEG image and text-file viewing
Doom!
Real Time Clock (RTC)
Customizable Tag Database
Unicode support
Advanced On-The-Go playlist creation Multilingual Interface - 30 supported languages and counting
Optional fully voice-driven interface
Many plugins - games, apps, and demos
Abilty to create your own themes or use user-uploaded ones (Fully customizable - fonts, backdrops, while-playing screens and more)

But WARNING, it's not as stable as standard OS (It works fine tough)
iPOD of course dont think too much
Quote :MP3 player for my girlfriend

Seems a good swap. I have a 1 gig ipod nano I won at a christmas raffle, send me a few pics of her, maybe we can do a trade.
I got this for Christmas. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an mp3 player.
