G25 Software
I think there is a software problem.

Using windows xp professional after installing the software for G25 it started acting strange. Tried installing on my laptop toshiba using win xp pro and it said there was a problem installing the hardare bit it did install it did the same on the PC. Removed the sofware on the laptop and tried after closing the anti virus (CA Associates) and installed again it went through fine and at the end asked to restart which is good sign noticed the FF at 200% was quite a lot and it seems just fine on Laptop.
Reinstalled win xp pro on the PC and tried to install but it wont again ask to restart on a fresh install of xp on PC.
I think there is a problem.
it didn't ask me to restart my computer after installing the software on my xp box.
It asked to restart on one computer and not the other and the one that restarted the FF is much better than the other.

Anyone else's asked to restart?
mine never wanted a restart of windows after installing the logitech software, I also found that use the clear calibration tool from logitech allways comes up saying there is no calibration data saved and must have been deleted. I think a gaming software update is required as it also says my wheel is a driving force pro when installing the wheel then changes to g25.
So there is definately a software problem with the G25

If it did not ask to restart after installation then there is a software problem with the G25.

Tried on my two computers on one it did ask to restart and on the other after several tries it wont and the FF is better in the one that asked than the other.

my feedback ingames was very weak, then all of a sudden its more powerful, wheel now feels very like a formula force, something is up software wise. update: uninstalled again, deleted registry entries, removed logitech folders, restart pc, put in cd, reinstall software, stick in usb, doesnt do the found new hardware probe, software finds the wheel, doesnt ask for restart of pc, do one anyway, on restart comes up new hardware found logitech g25, stays for a few secs then another box pops up saying new hardware found driving force usb, what is goin on?, in game controllers its saying its a g25.
Tried to get in touch with Logitech by telephone its a long wait to speak to someone.
this is the 3rd version of the logitech software i've used, and the 3rd computer i've installed it on, and it has never once asked me to restart after installation.

last year when i bought LFS, i took my ps2 wheel and installed the logitech software. no restart required. everything worked perfectly.

6mo later, I got my dad into LFS, and he went out and bought a DFP, and installed a newer version of the software on his computer. no restart required. everything works perfectly.

A 2 months ago, i built a new computer and used my old wheel with the same version of the software that i installed on my dad's computer. no restart required. everything worked perfectly.

2 days ago, i got my g25, put the disk in, and the installer removed the old version of the software, then installed the new version that came with the g25. no restart required. everything works perfectly.

this software does not require a restart...at least under XP home. I can't remember if i had to restart after installing the software on my XP Pro box. Pretty sure I didn't have to restart when i was testing Vista out either.

As for settings, all strength settings are default (100% i think), combined is off, and centering is on. In game FFB is set at 65, and is stronger than on my old wheel.

what i think you should try is,
  • uninstall the logitech software
  • go into device manager and make sure the g25 isn't listed and if it is
  • right-click on it and choose "uninstall"
  • remove the g25 usb connection
  • put the disk taht came with the g25 in the cd/dvd drive and install the software.
  • after the software has been installed, plug the g25 back in.
I have 2 PC's and a Toshiba Satellite Laptop it asked to restart on the laptop and the FF seems much better in the laptop.

On the both the PC's it did not ask to restart.

On one PC and the Laptop the OS in win xp pro.

Why would it ask to restart on one and not the other?
maybe on one computer it need to install some addiontal software that was already installed on the other computer (such as .Net or some other framework that the software is based on)

don't know if this software is built on .Net, its just the first example that popped in my head.

I "think" I needed a restart after the software install, it restarted and then I plugged in the wheel and it detected it etc, however I'm nto 100% sure now. I know my Logi mouse software needs a restart to install as I just upgraded that to 3.1. The profiler software I have for the G25 is version 5.00.171 07/05/2006 and running XP with sp2.

edit: ok I read the readme file, duh, and it says the computer maybe be restarted. So I guess it depends on something whether its restarted or not but I'm not sure what. Instaling the software in vista does not restart vista but the damn thing doesn't even detect the g25 so no use. My guess would be older versions of windows xp maybe pre sp2 or some kind of usb driver that is installed causes a restart.
