Ecclestone has lost his mind
The British Grand Prix could be forced to alternate its race with France to allow the Formula One calendar to expand in the future, claims the sport's commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone.
With South Korea due to be added to the schedule in 2010, and India also planning to have its first F1 race that year, Ecclestone has admitted that European venues will likely be squeezed out.
Speaking in an interview with the Bloomberg news agency, Ecclestone said that one possibility to free up space on the calendar would be for Silverstone and Magny-Cours to alternate their races.
Ecclestone said the French organisers "are happy to do that. As for the British race, I don't know what they want and I'm not sure they do."
Discussions between Ecclestone and Indian organisers are said to be 'far down the line', although he declined to elaborate on where the race was planned.
"India is a country that is probably going to grow quicker than China," added Ecclestone. "We had to make sure we found the right place in India and we have."
The idea of venues sharing races is not completely new, with Hockenheim and Nurburgring organisers have agreed from next year to alternate the German Grand Prix because of the financial demands of hosting an F1 race.

Proof once more than he doesn't give a flying...ummm duck...about motorsport, he just wants to line his own pockets. The idea that we would have to share a GP with France is totally insane, Britain is motorsport mad...just look at how many people turn up at Silverstone every year, even though it has some of the worst facilities on the F1 calender. Germany and Italy have had 2 races for years, its about time they dropped 1 of each. But Britian and France only have 1 GP, and they are both big markets for teams like Ferrari, Renault, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes...so even financially it makes no sense.

He certainly has done some weird statements, I have wondered if it is his old age that is doing that or his young wife illepall

Just stop watching F1. Isn't interesting anyway.
Watch WTCC, WRC, IRC, and of course STCC instead.

Well i am happy to say i have skysports now, so i can watch A1GP!

I don't watch cars with wings, well sometimes, but it is boring. Then it is hard to find anything to watch actually.

I follow F1 only because there is finnish drivers and I get results just fine from internet.
Well, I can understand him, he is a businessman afterall. But I feels all the races are held in Asia in the future and where the people and growing markets are, and again I can agree with Ecclestone that it's a smart move in financial point of view and I'm sure the car manufacturers can agree with him too. For the sport it's stupid, England and Silverstone is one of the birthplaces of motorsport so it's wrong to take the GP away from the Brits and make them share it with the French, not right. But someone could say F1 isn't a sport anymore, or hasn't been in a while, but I just can't miss the next season and the next Finnish Champion.

Well so lets cancel Monaco too.
Lets drive in Afrika !
Ecclestone should be replaced !
Britain is THE birthplace of F1 AFAIK and it might have been the birthplace of motorsport in general too and so, IMO, it would be a very stupid move.

China hopes to half its population by 2050 (so thats its down to 500 Million) because it cannot support the amount of people there are - India has no such intentions

And i think it's a load of *******, but thats F1 - they got rid of Spa, Monaco will be gone soon too!

This guy speaks BS

This guy doesnt.

Brotha you speak the truth !!!!
All wrong,

Sportscars for the win!

(Group C!)
France invented Grand Prix racing, and Britain is the birthplace of motorsport in general. I couldn't care less if both races were held in a carpark with cones marking a track, France and Britain should always be on the calender.

My solution, have more races and extended F1 to the end of november.

i am totally agree with you as f1 is not a sport
LOL lets drive on the moon next season...
IMO - if F1 wants to lose dates - it should pull out of ALL venues outside of NA, Europe and the middle east, possibly 1 race in Japan and 1 in Australia if a decent place can be found (unlike Albert Park)

That is a real cost cutting measure. I can't see how they can claim to want to cut costs by having races in the middle of nowhere which don't care about F1.

It's about *making* them care about F1.
Most british F1 fans will continue watching F1 even if there is only one race in two years. They never went to the track anyway and wouldn't be able to draw the layout of any F1 track. But by hosting a F1 race in India you get the chance to additionally attract indian fans, generating more money for F1.

Stupidity is always a quick way to justify something. But it's never the actual reason.

Loose the wings and cost will come down, then it is same if there is 400 or 800hp, there is just not enough grip
Quote from Blackout :but I just can't miss the next season and the next Finnish Champion.

So you're buying MTV3's pay-tv bullshit packet which still includes the worst commentators on Earth and even crappier image quality?

Line his own pockets? One of the good things about Bernie is he doesn't need any more money and doesn't do things to line his own pockets.

How can you say he don't need more money? Of course he does, no matter what they say, every human being on this planet that has even a little wealth is needing more, at least from their own opinion and that is all that matters in this subject
They're not afraid of loosing the interest to f1 in europe. That's why they're removing european races one by one.Their aim is to get more attention to F1 in the rest of the world.

Formula1 is a high-profit organization more than a motorsports challenge.
