Jeez, Bernie. You think British fans won't care if they have to wait 2 years between home GPs? This is Silverstone, not some cookie-cutter Herman Tilke piece of shit. It has history & legend dripping from it. It'd be like taking Monza out for a year - can you imagine Italians (especially La Scuderia di Modena) standing for that? Come on Bernie, back to reality, oh - here comes gravity ... because I've pushed you down the stairs. Mwahahaha!

Imola got thrown out from calendar earlier, one of good tracks
Quote from duke_toaster :IMO - if F1 wants to lose dates - it should pull out of ALL venues outside of NA, Europe and the middle east, possibly 1 race in Japan and 1 in Australia if a decent place can be found (unlike Albert Park)

That is a real cost cutting measure. I can't see how they can claim to want to cut costs by having races in the middle of nowhere which don't care about F1.

While I find F1 uninteresting, if they took the race here in Australia back to Adelaide I'd actually watch it, as the track always provides good spectator value
Mind you here in oz if they didn't have the V8 supercars on the same card as any open wheel events not many would bother
V8s rule
It's just funny and unbelievable how maFIA tries to screw up every single series. Same pattern again and again. First they f*cked up F1 and then WRC. Next year WRC is getting again few completely ridiculous rules.

Now FIA GT is also on the black list, for example they'll reduce races from 3 hours to 2 hours to cut costs. What kind of endurance is that? Now that FIA GT is history, it's pretty sure that Le Mans Series and even ALMS are getting more and more popular - which are not under FIA's spanking.

Rediculous. There's plenty of racing fans in Oz that prefer real racing to that bloated family sedan series.
Yeah I have to agree Gunn, much as I love the V8s. I know they're fat-arse dad-cars on steroids (really good steroids) but there's no closer tin-top series in this land and I love it . Living literally across the road from the track during the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide for a coupla years was brilliant

The Australian F1 and Indy events were great before the V8 Supercabs were attached to them. Certainly, the V8s may pull a few extra people to those events but I think they'd do just fine without them.

Back on topic, if they were to shift the Oz F1 round back to Adelaide (best street track in the world except Monaco, thank you very much!) I'd be a happy camper

Quote from ZORER :"India is a country that is probably going to grow quicker than China," added Ecclestone. illepall

I think he is right.
Quote from ZORER :Formula1 is a high-profit organization more than a motorsports challenge.

Bingo. Bernie just goes after the money. I just wonder why Bernie didn't drop the Hungaroring out. The most dullest race on calendar and the most dullest track. Only if it rains it can be good. But I don't see the British GP as anything special. Wonder when we get the Russian GP and African GPs to go along with "the whole world" racing theme.

Just take off some of the electronics and suddenly you are guaranteed to have more action.

actually it has always been that way? Bernie is on the business side of things and Max is on the sporting side, it's been that way for quite some while now.

If one thing to blame is global commercialization in every aspect of life, if Formula 1 stays put as it was in the 80's, then no way it will become the global dominent sport with so much commercial interest, and because of the way money flow nowadays you have to have commerical interest to create something this big. I don't think Bernie can single handedly keep the passion and sport in F1 wihle going against the market, and being a smart person he is getting his share out of it which I think might just be right from a business person point of view. (although I never liked business persons)

Well, one good thing, 15 years from now and it is very unlikely that Bernie will be spoiling F1 anymore
Quote from Hyperactive :Just take off some of the electronics and suddenly you are guaranteed to have more action.

That's out of the question. Bernie wants to see F1 cars flying 50 cm above the track surface before he dies.
Quote from deggis :So you're buying MTV3's pay-tv bullshit packet which still includes the worst commentators on Earth and even crappier image quality?

Yeah, it sucks! I'm trying to get an alternative, but it doesn't look that good at the moment. That "new" pay-tv advertisement was just a scam because it's the same old crap with crap programs in a new package. Grrrrrr I hate it! It would cost what, about 128 euros per year, and you only get 4 channels and formulas...and one channel is only for children. And F1 commentator(s) and extra F1 stuff sucks too.

And if you don't have cable network then you get only 2 channels with the same price. And that's practically 1 channel because the other one is for childrens.

The 2 hour delay actually isn't that bad. What I fear is that they will show some kind of shortened version of the actual race. Maybe it's time to install some kind of satellite kit...
Quote from deggis :And if you don't have cable network then you get only 2 channels with the same price. And that's practically 1 channel because the other one is for childrens.

Oh, I thought they are trying to get the license for the extra 2 channels for terrestrial network, at the moment it's like that which is crazy. I hope they don't give the extra licenses for them and instead for some proper network from abroad. Cable is a good option but it's going to cost 600 euros to plug it in and we should buy new receiver. I'm starting to hate this digital TV thingy, why we couldn't have high speed Internet connections with that money spend on the new TV technology and move the television to the Internet. Luckily I'm moving out to live on my own soon...I hope it gives more options.

This is heading widely off-topic, so back to Bernie. Umm, what would I say. Well, I suppose I stick with my first reply, he is a businessman. Unfortunately that is, I could add.
British GP bosses reject sharing scheme

British Grand Prix bosses have rejected the proposal from Bernie Ecclestone to alternate their race with the French Grand Prix.
Ecclestone proposed the idea to Silverstone's owners, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), as a way of ensuring the race's long-term future without the need for an expensive renovation of facilities to take place immediately.
It was proposed that the race-sharing scheme would start in 2008, with Silverstone hosting the race that year and Magny-Cours getting it the following year. The alternating venue proposal would last for 10 years.
But after examining the idea, the BRDC have informed Ecclestone that they are not interested in the proposal.
BRDC chairman Stuart Rolt told The Times newspaper: "We said it doesn't work for us. We were not able to see how a Grand Prix every second year works financially — we have to keep the place in a suitable condition for a Grand Prix — and in terms of staffing.
"You may be able to let some staff go temporarily and hire them back, but that's a difficult way to run a business."
Ecclestone has said that he will accept Silverstone's decision and not force the issue - although admitted that nothing was guaranteed for the event beyond the end of its current deal in 2009.
"Silverstone stays where they are. We respect our contracts and we'll see what happens when the contract runs out."
Rolt echoed Ecclestone's comments that the race's future was not certain.
"I really can't reassure them (the fans) after 2009," Rolt said. "To me there is a danger that we cannot, or we are somehow unable to, find a way to fund the improvements or there may be a point where the amount of money we have to pay for hosting the Grand Prix becomes untenable."

You have to chuckle about this when you realise quite how much of F1's R&D work is U.K based......sure pull out of the one country which [arguably] contributes more to the engineering basis of your sport than any other.

Oh well, personally this year I've been to plenty of motorsport events, all of which were great fun, none of which involved Bernie Ecclestone and his flying circus.
