Oh dear. Well, I was there for that and I'm really sad to see that the actual FACTS of the matter are clearly completely lost. Well doesn't that just figure, huh? THAT's put me in a bad mood.
Yeah I know it is to see if the perception of viewers think it is so... but the fact that there is an option for it being the 'greatest' of all leagues (or saying that people are so in love with it), it kind of doesn't help with any room for the league to evolve or become even better does it? It's almost as if you would think "my work is done here" and you've got something complete and unique. You certaintly have something unique at the moment, but not something complete, so there has got to be a lot more to do for it to get ecstatic votes as being the best league out there That's where I am coming from -- as a viewer.
Also, for your first season, you've been doing great so far Don't give up.
No, I know the facts and so does Jack. If he wants to go put an alternative slant on it with rumour and inuendo, that's entirely Jack's prerogative. Our conversation was on Teamspeak, it was settled there, and I won't be expounding on it further.
"The STCC is a great series, and I enjoy watching it."
Not the best or fastest drivers, not the most interesting cars and not the most interesting tracks. But the huge effort put into the post production, filming and all other things is just amazing.
I guess the huge differences in cars' performance makes the races a bit less exciting but all in all it is "a very good show"
Clownpaint applied to enter a qualification entry event, as we now hold races to find the best of the applicants we receive. These are designed to be a high pressure test of a drivers ability to race fast & clean, he was awarded a slot fairly late in the day after somebody else left, but he was not a last minute stand in.
He turned up late, did not compete in the opening session (an instrumental session in locking competitors to a car before track selection) because he was making a skin, drove a few laps practice then dissapeared to eat dinner whilst the drivers where being reminded of the rules, he came back and asked for a setup - specifically excluded in the forum post advertising the event for reasons specific to that event. He was denied entry at that point. Those are the facts, the details and specifics i'll leave to the rumour mill as that appears to be in full flight already.
Regarding the poll option, the options run from full approval to hate it, the wording is just wording, but whatever it appears justified as people selected it.
The hate it option seems to have only been taken because somebody who didnt read the rules turned up for a qualification event demanded we work to his time schedule and his own interpretation of the rules. So perhaps it is that option which should not have been included in the poll..?
A driver joining a league which openly states it has strict regulations and heavy stewarding and not reading the forum post which the driver applied to join the series in, is a bit silly. For him to now be spreading his own interpretation of events I find very dissapointing, perhaps Clownpaint could have asked to race under appeal and put it to the stewards, but instead he threw a hissy fit during the event, then came into team speak and further disrupted the smooth running of events, so the point I had to ban him for 1 day just to get things moving.
I'm not saying he has an ego or any of that other debate above, but I find it very dissapointing that you would just a series on the strength of a hissy fit thrown by a prima donna who didn't read the rules and wanted us to work around him.
Thanks for clearing that up. The story sounds rather different from the one I heard. Knowing the facts now, can a moderator please move my vote from option 4 to option 2?
Adding to my previous comment, I've now looked at one of the race compilation videos and they indeed seem to be very well done. Only the comment quality (loudness, acoustical understandability) was a bit too unsteady, but overall it was really good
While this doesn't have an impact on my vote, atleast I now have an idea what the STCC is about.
From what I've read on this forum the STCC seems like a really cool series. I did consider entering as I saw a number of lads that I've chatted to on the forums are competing and I would enjoy racing them.
However, I did not enter because I competed in the ESL ERRC earlier this year in the FXO and wanted to compete in RWDs for a change. Also, I think the FXO feels heavy and cumbersome since the patch was released. OK I don't have to drive the FXO but in my opinion it is the fastest in class. In addition I am competing in the OWRL (which really is the pinnacle of LFS leagues in my view) and cannot commit to another series.
I do think that broadcasting the races is a fine idea and wish you all the luck with the series.
An option 2. I'll expand, but I already know about it, so this may be of limited use.
I found STCC after a mate told me I needed to see the videos as they were worth watching. I downloaded 1 and 3, and was impressed. It seemed to me that the quality was improving between 1 and 3, and with a long race calendar ahead I bookmarked the website as one to watch.
I like the level of racing - seeing "the pinnacle" (as described before in this thread) doesn't appeal to me. I want to see people that will make mistakes, overtaking, people pushing too hard at the start and saving up for the end.
The production is good - showing the tricky parts/incidents of the support races gives you a feel for the challenges of that combo. I think that having two commentators in the same place (so they can bounce off each other better) would improve the fluidity.
This is all from memory, as it's been some time since I watched the last broadcast. I'll see if I can send in some constructive suggestions after the next race. In summary, I think you should continue as you are. You seem to have the right idea about tweaking things slowly and there's plenty races to polish the format on.
i thin that anyhting that is well organised for people to anjoy is good, and should not be dissmissed, however as for watching it, i only tend to watch real racing. and in lfs terms, id rarther race myself. but please dont take that the wrong way.
and if you where wondering about the negative votes, some poeple just vote negatively for the crack. take for example the vote about someone leaving the turbo mini league, lots of people just voted he should leave even though they had nothing to do with the league. (i think the poll is in leagues and events) so i woouldnt let it bother you.
You are prime target audience ! . Nobody watches sim racing because there were not any leagues broadcasting in traditional racing coverage style. There where music and artistic videos, but no actual race broadcasts. That's what the STCC is trying to redress.
Yeah it was a dodgy voice, we got a knocked off one from some guy in a van out the back of Spittlefields market. Tristan & Mike will be back for round 4, and I we think we have the technical hitches behind us for them working together.
