Let them have a look around here on the forum. Show them the important race related stuff. Don't mention off-topic at all. Let them know that this is a community of a multitude of different maturity levels. Let them know there are kids, adults, adults who act like kids. Let them know that not once has there been any inappropriate material here as far as "child molestation" here. Tell them how this is an official game forum which is the extention of a buisness and monkey business like that wouldn't be tollerated. This is an open forum, but it is still the extention of a legitimate business.

Let them know that if anything inappropriate comes up, the majority of the community jumps on it to have it removed or bannished. Show them the thread about swearing on the servers and it will show how the majority feel about the auto-kick for swearing (ie, the majority support it). Show them how immature those who argued to support swearing and how ridiculous their comments were compared to the intelligent comments from those who supported keeping swearing off the servers.

Show them the "Are you a sim racing dad" thread and let them see how many here are just like them with children of their own.

As a parent myself, I can think of many many things I'd rather not have my children doing rather than hanging out on a sim racing forum and playing a racing sim.

Above all, they are your parents. If they don't want you on the LFS forums, then that is their wishes. I was your age once as well. I know it is tough when rules come down on yourself from what a sibling has done.

Ok wait, what? Your parents would punish you if they knew some of the things you saw on this very forum? Are you kidding me?

This place here is pretty much as tame as it can get, as long as you don't count the occasional swearing here and there. Your parents must be really clueless about the internet, and the true horrors it contains. Then again, if they knew they probably wouldn't let you touch the internet with a 10 foot clown pole, so the current situation is probably better.

I guess the best thing is to show them what's going on in here, and maybe they're even happy that it's a racing forum, and not a Counter "HEADSHOT!" Strike one.

Just pic few good threads about different things, like few improvement suggestions and other general discussion threads and make them read them. Tell them what's point in this (I'd like to know that too ) plus all what ^^ is said

Anyway, Rappa, maybe you should show the forum to your parents. They'll understand that they don't have to worry about it.

Speaking as a parent, nothing would make me more suspicious than seeing my kid shutting down his PC EVERY time I stuck my head round the door, believe me! Talk about a give-away! Honesty is a much better policy. If you're not up to anything questionable then there shouldn't be any reason to hide what you ARE doing.

The Sim Racing Dad thread, as Mike points out, is a good place to point your parents. There are lots of parents on this forum, including devs and moderators too, and we ALL watch this forum through parents' eyes. We can't help it, and it's not a bad thing.

I'm not for a moment suggesting that your parents shouldn't be concerned about, or aware of your online activities. I think they should definitely be 100% aware, but I think it's at least fair to say that on this forum at least, you're not going to see anything OR get up to anything that they would disapprove of. Paranoia is no substitute for knowledge and understanding. Give your dad some credit for caring, and arm him with all the info he wants or needs about the LFS environment.
