Race: Free weekend on Steam
i've gotten into this game recently and i think it is pretty good. it's no LFS but it is nice for a change
i tried once to install it but failed.
they cant even make a working installer (was from a brand new dvd)
maybe i get it working anyday then i can give it a go too ^^
i liked the demo but i absolutely wont install steam anywhere on this pc ... no way

i simply refuse to use any applications that try to reap more and more functionality up to the point where theres no way around that particular app anymore

Grab the install from the webbah, I did many moons ago (when steam first came out), and it has gone from meh, to bad, to worse to meh, maybe the next update will see it go to goodish.
so...does this mean that you can only get the game for free for this weekend, or does it mean that it is a trial that will only run for this weekend?

the site isn't very clear about that.

I'd rather eat my own vomit than install Steam ever again.

I don't have any experience with Steam, but I'm critical about software that can disable itself if it decides it doesn't want me to use it anymore.

You get the full game from later on Today till sometime on Sunday, then after it will lock it up unless you buy it or something to that affect. Never really used Steam before, just got it with Half Life 2 so don't have much experience with it.
took me 10 min to download 1% :|
Odd took me a whopping 20 minutes to download earlier this week =P
Yeah, got it too.. Will give it a proper go (if it works) not that I expect anything special from an ISI based sim...

Will kill some hours though..

Just had a quick shot there, looks like it could be something we play at our monthly lans due to it not being quite as hardcore as some sims and being WTCC all the noobs can get away with and enjoy swapping paint. Not sure I follow where all the anti steam vibe is coming from. If what you say is true then I'm guessing all you steam haters are positively fuming about vista and all the HD content protection that will be coming into play in '08.

At this rate its gona take all weekend to download.
Had a go at it before. Can't be arsed to try it out. It's exactly like GTR, GTR2 and GT Legends.. how inspiringly original.
I am so glad that Simbin decided to go from the #1 source of online games... STEAM. Sadly, they don't realize how many people will be complete twats online with that system once it is free temporarily, and it will be mayhem if they choose to buy the game. Steam is filled with problems by its users.

yegadoyai, I have a Steam account, and mostly played the FPS games they supplied. But since Steam was started it was nice, but it has slowly become worse with how it distributes the games, design of the application, and the practices Valve has for keeping the business afloat. But when they have these free-game weekends, it just goes to show how the people that use it act..., and that I don't like at all. You could say that some of the best selling games have the most idiots in them, but it ruins quite a bit of playing experience when you market the game to people who haven't got A CLUE what racing is all about.
Wanted to give it a go, but it doesn't memorizes that I want it to run in a window, since every ISI-sim freezes my computer as soon as I'm about to hit the track... So, no Race for me, thank you...

absolutely ... if it werent for dx10 vista would probably never make it on one of my hdds ... and im currently considering ditching windows alltogether for anything else but gaming
I use Steam to play many games. I've used Steam since it came out. It contains no malicious software. They only really advertise on the main page. I have no problems with it. It was alittle buggy when they first released it, but it has gotten alot better and alot more stable.

I preloaded RACE last night. It took me about 10 minutes. I see the price went down too, so hopefully it's good, we'll see.

I tried the race limited demo a while back. The driving wasn't bad, and the graphics were ok, but slightly arcadey for my liking (perhaps wtc cars really can really turn on a 5p coin)

On a slightly different note - I found out after playing it for an evening that it too has been infiltrated by the same IGA adware that the big hoohaa was about in bf2142.

I had decided that I was going to boycott any games that included IGA when I read about bf2142, just out of principle, because I don't want to feel like a "target market" everytime I am entertained, and then there is the issue of it opening "hidden" connections to the IGA servers every time you run the game...

This is just my paranoid opinion - don't let it stop you trying out the game if these issues don't bother you

Yeah, not worth the download if you have played any of those
Wow this is waayy better than LFS just look at the graphics! And quality is the same no matter how many times I start it. Awesome!

Well I have given Race a go but something weird is up with my computer when I try to play it.

With inside view I get no textures and all is very dark and grey, when driving around the track the road keeps disappearing, i get flashing fences in the road surface, all sorts of weird red patches form on the track in certain places. Grandstands keep flashing on and off and all sorts of other weird sh*t is happening.

On the car itself I get no tyre textures, instead the cars skin shows up on the wheels so they they spin you get all sorts of funky colours bluring. Cars breaklights appear white, opponents cars appear grey and flash on and off...

it just goes crazy illepall

I've no idea what could be causing this as all of my other games work without a problem. Yesterday i installed the latest Omega Radeon drivers.

any ideas? Has someone come across the same thing?
