i wouldnt say that the actual cars look 'cool' as such, but its a pretty good idea, and should promote more close racing for an allready good close racing series.
Its made drafting harder, the cars handle like complete dogs, they look ugly...I hate it, as do the entire Nascar grid.
The drivers said it drafted more stabely (actual drafting) and handling wise they are only a tenth or two off the old pace a bristol (which isnt a good testing bed) and well ugly, it'll take some getting used to.

The whole grid hating it? nah, its main focus is saftey, no driver wants to be less safe eh?

although i am pretty darn tired of hearing about it, cant wait till everyone is just over it lol

the cars look like **** i think..
Looks like a normal stock :bananadea car with a wing on it. A aluminum wing you find at Pep Boys or Halfords, maybe. :riceboy:

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I hate it, as do the entire Nascar grid.

That's funny, I was just reading about how some of the drivers loved it.
Took me a while to actually figure out what CoT meant....
Looks ok, NASCAR's were never visually appealing cars. Looks like they are carrying on that trend.

I think it looks like back to the eighties
Race went pretty well, couple broken brackets on the splitter, and i'd like to see the decklid with the wing secured a bit better, but the racing was the same, but you could race semi trucks around bristol and it would be the same :P real test will be at pheonix/dover
If anything I would have changed them to pony car body styles. Oh wait, that would f*ck up Toyota. Unless they entered a Lexus SC ...

Also, why haven't NASCAR came out of their caves RE fuel injection, dual overhead camshaft engines and sequential gearboxes?
It's not really very futuristic, given the name. "Car of 20 Years Ago" might be more appropriate. CoTYA!
Its what's on the inside that counts ..

and duke, thats been debated on here before, mostly its due to cost, lack of any noteable advantage, and heratige.

Sequentials take some driver skill out of the equation. Also, why use FI and DOHC? The current method is working well, and, if it ain't broke, why fix it? CIH and Carburettor'd engines are so much more easy to extract power out of, and you don't have to deal with a fiddly computer.

Cheers,
Matt.

FWIH V8 Supercars are planning (or this is rumoured) on going to seqqies - they cost just as much to build, last longer and also save on engines to stop people that go from 4th (In their case 6th) straight in to first at Sonoma (in their case Bathurst) with rather spectacular results of a pieces of engine all over the circuit variety.

Fuel injection is kinda silly as it's difficult to name a carburetted car that is still in production (at least in Europe). And almost all engines in new cars are DOHC. New BMWs? DOHC. That 6.3L beast by Mercedes Benz? DOHC. Pushrods themselves are more prone to breaking, so in the long run costs would be cut or at least partially offset.

Re Pony Cars, if NASCAR want to go international (rumours of potentials for an asia-based series exist), they would want to use cars that are sold in that country. By using Pony car body styles, the "halo effect" would be greater should they go international. NASCAR have nowhere to expand in the USA - they are the biggest sports league by far in TV money and gates.

The COT is progress - the safety changes and the lack of need for air restrictors at the faster tracks makes sense.
Yes, but, that is why the normal H-Pattern gearbox is much better. You actually CAN screw up and kill the transmission. The race winner should be the one making the fewest mistakes, and, busting a transmission would be a BIG mistake on the drivers part, and he should have a consequence. Also, so what if all road cars are S/DOHC? One of the best cars in the world right now, the Corvette Z06(I know that seems biased, but it isn't), has a CIH engine. Besides, if they let FI in, then that would call for a more complex computer system, with the ability to hide TCS easier. TCS=Lame.

Cheers,
Matt.
The whole point of NASCAR racing is pushrod V8 engines, carburetors, 4-speed manual transmissions, etc. The whole Nascar series was founded back during prohabition in the United States when folks running illegal moonshine started talk about how much better and faster they were over others. They started racing each other to show who was the fastest and it developed into NASCAR. Keeping with pushrod V8's, carbs, etc is just keeping with their roots.
Now people can say Nascar RICERS instead of Racers XD.

I can't wait till one of those spoilers flys off and kills someone in the crowd.

Well that's a real nice thing to say.

Im not saying im looking foward to seeing one do that.

Im just saying with how aerodynamic those things are I wouldn't be surprised if there was a spoiler related accident that stopped the Cars of Tomorrow from being raced.

I was actually thinking of the same thing. But I wonder if the spoiler has a cord connecting to it incase it falls off. Dale Jarrett's 44 crashed and the rear was completely torn off. However, a cord held the rear to the car so the debris stayed with the car
i think the COT looks better than the COY (car of yesterday. old nascar car)
can't wait for talledga!
