Same

And congratulations to Danny
Quote from Bawbag :It's not a "law" it's something which you have to agree to, maybes it's differnt (better) in Germany (As usual) but most definetely saw a Tommi Makkinen Evo 6 being won in a competition and the guy who one it had to keep it for so long before he got rid of it.

No, I meant a law allowing that kind of contract would be against the law, or to be more precise: I'm pretty sure that a contract like that would be against morality/immoral in the judicial sense of those words in Germany -- unless the participants had to agree to those terms beforehand, maybe, which is not the case here, I'd assume.

Anyway, that's terrible. What if the winner can't afford to insure or store the car? Does he have to give it back and won nothing then? What kind of company would make you sign such a contract?
I would have figured the insurance would be free for the same period as you need to keep the car. I'm pretty sure when you win a car you have to keep it for a certain duration, but I also always wondered how they can be sure people can actually afford having the car.
Grats to him

tbh, I really would sell it. Maybe take it for a spin once or twice, but a M6 is not my type of car
Steady with the BMW digs

Well done to him though. Cant knock a free car, even if he isnt old enough, cant afford it or whatever. I think its the jealousy within that makes you say these things.
what a F***** lucky guy, seriously, wining a race in LFS and to won a m6, that's incredible

GREAT HUSKY!!
Any surprise that SK is sponsored by Intel and that one of them wins their own competition essentially?

Blah, people that don't know anything about LFS should only be allowed, I bet it was a piece of cake for Danny
Wow, just thinking of being rewarded with a real car by winning in a racing game already made me pretty damn shocked...
And it's not a normal car too, it's a BMW M6... my god..... A real real real lucky man he is!!! DAMN!!
*envious*
I don't know why people are suggesting selling a car that goes 155mph (ulimited @ 200+ mph). It is a fast car. If you own a car faster than it already, yeah maybe you'd sell it... but hell, with the basic car I have now, I'd regret selling that thing.

A guy I know owns several Porsche GT3's, and he won a drawing/raffle for a brand new Porsche Cayman... with his choice of color... the works. He says he doesn't even want the car because he likes what he already has... but he went ahead and added it to his garage, even though he has to pay all these ridiculous taxes and fees for it to even happen. He could've put that money towards his GT3's, but I guess he'll be having this Cayman. If he does sell that car, He'll make some extra cash off it though. Point is, you wont really be making "that much" with the money you get in return from selling it. You aren't getting its full sale price in return. Because you'll have to pay lots of fees to begin with when you win such a car. I am sure it is the same for any other countries or contest/prizes of this size, they don't just hand over a 100% free car.

One thing he certainly wasn't is lucky. Qualifying to get into the final definately takes a lot of work and talent. The IRT travelled through Germany for over a year and if you wanted to be in the top ten to qualify for the final you had to be seriously quick. I gave it a try but even if would have put all my perfect splits together (3 laps of Aston Nat) I would still have been over a second slower than P10. And P1 to P10 were covered by a bit more than half a second. I have been watching the times over the past few months and some the fast guys must really have invested a lot of time into visiting all the quali events. But in the end it payed off big time for Husky.

Maybe something to do with the costs of running certain cars in Europe vs USA?

Another thing that'd be interesting is how much the M6 is still worth. Unless they brought it on a trailer to all the IRT events it will have quite a few km's on the clock.
Vykos, post, please, a link to your weblog. The www address in your profile doesn't open.
Congratulations to Danny! It would be a nice predicament to be in, that's for sure! I hope his parents don't take advantage of him
I'd say just row it through the gears once then put it in the garage. When he's old enough to drive, BAM there it is! Of course by then gas will also have gone up a couple more bucks/gallon/litre/cc.

+1 for replay!

Insurance wouldn't be cheap if I owned it here... but even if I could barely afford that, I'd have to work hard for it . If I didn't have a job and wasn't earning enough, then yeah, selling it would mean big bucks and that'd be my only option $$$$$

Wow cool, got to meet Heidfeld and all I see http://picasaweb.google.com/vykos69/IRTFinale
Quote from Tweaker :Insurance wouldn't be cheap if I owned it here

insurance will probably be ~1000 + ~400 in taxes and on top of that this thing probably is quite a gas guzzler which doesnt come cheap at ~1.35€/l

For one it could have to do with the age...Danny is not 18 yet so he can't obtain a driver's license. Then there is the running cost (not only taxes and insurance, but also 1.38 EUR for each litre [not gallon] of gas is quite a bit) and last but not least, personally I doubt a 507hp car is the right car for a beginner.

Of course you could always put the car in storage for a while.

In the end, it's for Danny to decide, though, and he can do whatever he wants with it.
WOW. Congrats!

Ah that Europe (I feel like I'm in Africa) what you can do all there
Congrats for the new car to that guy!!!
well, some more infos and stats on the event:

This first intel racing tour ran for more than a year, with:

- ~ 170 days opened
- ~ 25000 participants.
- ~ 10 finalists, place 2-9 won PCs (different stuff in it)
- ~ Place 1: BMW M6, used, ~worth 60-80k euros. And driven once by Nick Heidfeld

The final was done in a short warmup, a qualifying of 10 minutes and a race of 15 laps (including 2times 2 laps of pacecar, do give spun out guys a chance again). Danny was slow throughout whole warmup and qualifying, nils nailed pole until last minute of Q, then Danny ensured the pole. Through the race, nils wasnt more than 2 secs away from Danny, and simon stange was all the time right behind them, up to last 2laps, when first simon spun out (comment by Nick Heidfeld: "Oooooh, that was close, a shame, now he spun, but he's not in your team, right?" - Me: "No" - N.H.:"Well, then it's not that bad" ) and then Nils attacked with all his skill he could give to get Danny. Out of last corner Danny had enough room and went for the win. Hell break loose and the rest is just a big Hollywoodmovieparty

Anything else? Hmm, the champagne this evening spent was prolly more expensive than the M6, nils ate a glass of beer, we had one hell of a good party and I'm a full time Nick Heidfeld fan now, knowing that he's a racer from head to toe, watched our LFS guys racing with full interest, he even put me to situations: "Watch, now they are side by side". After the first two minutes of talking he fastly realised that we have some kind of idea of what he's doing out there really. All respect to him for also giving Danny the ride of his Life.
Man, I'd sell the thing and invest whatever is left for after my studies. Not because I thing BMW's are shit, but because I'd like to start with a sensible/affordable car, and have some extra cash for a future house of my own ;p

Amazing prize anyway, grats to Husky and whatever he does with it, he should have a big smile on his face
Cool Vykos . Yeah, personally I think Heidfeld is a great guy, and becoming an outstanding driver in F1 with his recent results.

Alongside Hamilton as well, they are both probably the cooler personalities of F1 for me at the moment, nobody beats their young talent (great future ahead for both of them). And yeah I agree, he is short

You need to post the replay of the race though, or else!!!!

Just out of curiosity, did the realism of LFS come up while you were talking to Nick Heidfeld? It'd be interesting to hear his thoughts on it.

People are probably suggesting to sell it because even if you don't have to buy it, it's still one expensive ride, especially for a kid. If you sell it now, you'll have ~$100k in the bank and make like $4-5k in interest per year.

If you drive it, it'll cost you something like $20k-30k a year in depreciation, insurance, maintenance, fuel etc.
