What happens when people constantly break the law... their car is impounded, and sometimes destroyed or put up for sale.

Agreed. Heavy car and too much electronic trickery. (although this may be an odd thing to hear from an electrical engineerng student... )

HAHAHA, awesomeness. Well that's one less on the road, probably serves the guy right for buying a silly car and driving with no regard to law (note I avoided say irresponsibly, speeding is good IMO, as a businessman it means you can get to places quicker, have more meetings and make more money... in theory).

You think the authorities would have just sold the car after they've taken it off them, surely it's more money for them that way?

Rather odd indeed. But the best cars are simple cars, if something goes wrong you just need to kick it, over getting out a computer to make head or tales of all the trash.

Ouch, at a guess the engine would be shot, as it sounds like they have been using it as a branger, and burnouts if the brakes are shot. Though I wouldn't want to buy a flash motor in England anyway. Unless you can always keep it in a garage when you are not using it, it's at high risk of theft, but then if you keep it locked up, why have it. =/

The more I hear about Manchester, the less I wish I moved here, though so far (bar the hobo's) I've not really seen anything wrong with the place. I'm not dead yet so it's all good.

But at least the car thevies have taste... and sense here. Back home they tried to steal my parents old 'narda. In crap shape anyway. But it was auto... what idiot trys to steal an auto. Then to make things worse they tried to crowbar the steering wheel cover off... too bad we have a horn under it, waking up the whole house. illepall

Actually, I have rarely seen officers eat donuts... maybe because they fear being stereotyped like that or they just don't like them .

More often I see them at fast food drive-thrus figures

Are you serious? They actually do that often in the states? Wow. I thought our cops were screwed. They would NEVER destroy your property, even if you speed at 300km/h. Yes, you would lose your license, go to court, maybe go to jail and get slapped with shitload of fines. But no-one would destroy your car, as it is YOUR property. I think that's the way it should be.

For repeated offenses (like 10 or so in a short period of time) that'd be fine imo. Some people drive without a license, sometimes drunk and nothing seems to stop them for repeating it over and over again. This could help

That first photo isn't what it was like when it first turned up imho. The dings in the side are the same as the teeth marks the claw left on the second photo. They was probably about to crush it when the guy turned up with the camera, so just posed it

People who can afford a Skyline (or something else fast) usually have enough sence in their head not to go fooling around like that. But still, If you go around speeding and disregard the law, I think it's you who should be punished for doing so, not the car. Car only does what the person behind the wheel is telling it to do. The person owning the Skyline propably has enough money to just get another one and go speeding with it again.

Well I don't know the exact terms of how it is all done, but it isn't common that a car involved in crime is crushed to pieces like that. This person must've had numerous accounts of breaking the law (as stated on the site), so the state that did this most likely only had one option. Normally though they would sell it. If I look in the Auto Trader catalogs we get around here, there are quite a few pages that are showing cars for SUPER CHEAP which are sold by the State Impound or something. I remember seeing a nice looking 3000GT for $4k or so... but you never know what happened to the car or the condition it is in... it was owned by an idiot afterall . Most of the cars are ones that have run from the cops or been speeding a lot.

True, it's only a Skyline (seems to be a GT25 too, not even a GT-R), but I still have to say I'd like to see that problem solved in some different manner

I personally haven't had yet a single ticket actually, tho I haven't had my license for even two years yet. I don't actually like persons who drive like madmen in the public traffic.

Well even if the person is not going to jail, only way to get rid of the source of the problem (ie speeding, running from police, street racing, etc), is to get rid of the car!!

What is so bad about it anyways... I know they are taking away your property, but it isn't the only piece of property that can be taken from you if you break the law, because it is the source of all the problems -- along with the owner.

Example:

Own a handgun? Illegal in most states, so they take it from the dude to prevent any further danger.

Own lots of cocaine? Well obviously it will be taken from you. Can't let them keep that kind of property .

It really is no different from any other form of breaking the law, including being dangerous in a vehicle, which could injure or hurt someone. But this isn't just for a simple speeding ticket or stop light violation, it is definitely for something very illegal and/or the owner's refusal to obey the law.

Its much better if they take it from him/her before the person driving the car kills someone!

Anyway, IMO the Skyline is a fantastic piece of engineering, it may not be particuarly fast by todays standards but it has some kind of quality about it that just makes it special. It wouldn't be my first choice of dream car, nor do I expect it's as good to drive as its competitiors, but IMO it just has some magic quality, funny though as it's the only car with any electronic trickery that I admire.
