The online racing simulator
new motherboard and other hardware
ok, since my pc is outdated i'm planning on buying myself a new pc for my birthday...

here is what i have or will get:
320gig sata|| hdd (got it)
msi 7600gs 512mb ram (got it)
x-super 550watt psu (got it)
g.skill ddr2 pc6400 ram 2x2gig(will get, need advice)
amd athlon 64 x2 6000+ windsor 3.0ghz 2x1mb l2 cache socket am2 cpu(will get)
asrock AM2NF3-VSTA (will get, need advice)
a good cooler from this page http://www.newegg.com/Store/Ca ... me=Cooling-Fans-Heatsinks

for the ram, is that good ram? or should i get some ram that is more expensive? plz not over 135$

the motherboard, this is what i want:
socket am2
4x ddr2 ram slots
agp slot...
only the asrock board has this, all the rest only has 2 ram slots...
like:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Pro ... 2428&ModelName=GA-MF3
and my pc shop doesnt deliver msi
the gigabyte or asrock? else any other boards are good...
2 ram slots are allowed, i searched the whole net and i only found another 1 from biostar but i dont like the color of the board, and i dont like biostar :s
so plz help me for them otherboard!!
if there are items on my list that could be better plz say,
i wont upgrade hdd, vid card or psu, they r new, the vid card is agp :s

Why stick with AMD? the Core 2 Duo E6600 is cheaper, faster and cooler.

Why do you have a 512 mb 7600GS o_0

The RAM's ok, but you only need a good cooler if your gonna overclock and you won't get a good overclock out of an ASRock

Plus, AMD's don't like 4 sticks of RAM, and 3 sticks make you loose dual channel - 2 slots is all you should ever use

then ill go intel?

what mobo and cpu do you prefer max is about
400$ for the cpu, the mobo, as long as it goes
what brand do you advice? olso could i go quad core?
some mobo's i found from asus:

yes i kinda inted to o/c
olso could you provide a link to your board?
quead core compatible is good 2

do you intend on overclocking? if so, the E6600 and a Gigabyte DS3 will do well.

Quad cores are "teh smex" but your wallet will hate you if you do

Could you tell me please what is your budget you can spend on new PC.
Then I am able to give you quick list what would be best.

Briefly looking at your componets....
Dont buy 7600GS with 512MB ram.The 512 will not help with perfomance at all.Buy some with at least DDR3 memory. Those 512MB on that card are just slow DDR2 memory. Also save money and buy DVD+- writer. Why need to standalone CD writer and DVD reader.

E6600 is overkill for 7600GS.E4400/4300 would be better and you could invest money for better graphic card.

As I said tell me please your budget and then I can think about it and come with some nice sollution for you.

BTW new C2D prices for 22.7.2007

i'm not buying a nex gfx card, cuz its new and i like it ands its good for what i need, my limit is about 400€, is about 540usd
for a mobo and cpu, the ram isnt neccecairy yet
Is your graphic card for PCI-E or for AGP bus?
When you are planning to do next upgrade after this one(1,2 or more years)?
Quote from Jakg :do you intend on overclocking? if so, the E6600 and a Gigabyte DS3 will do well.

from personal experience ... dont buy a p965 mobo if you want to use a x9 cpu to its full potential
tbh i dont exactly know if the nvidia northbridges are any better
#13 - Jakg
Then what do you suggest? i've seen some cracking overclocks from an E6600 and E4300 on DS3's and other P965-chipset mobo's
dunno i would have to look into how the nv chipsets perform in the 350-400 mhz range which is the sweet spot for resonable overclocking with a x9 cpu and exactly the range where a p965 refuses to boot at all

btw speaking of the ds3 ... dont by rev 3.3 as gb has dropped support for setting memory timing in the bios for some inexplicable reason
also my dads p965 runs ridiculously hot even at 200 mhz .. well at least gb uses some proper thermal grease on the north bridge cooler

Thank you Gigabyte, you've now cemented my decision to go DFi if i ever go C2D

From what i've seen the P5B and DS3 will do 500 fsb

EDIT - By that i mean run them stably, NOT just have the option (ie "z0mg teh DFi does 600 fsb lolz0r!)
Quote from Jakg :From what i've seen the P5B and DS3 will do 500 fsb

yes they will ... at least some do but the point is that for some reason the chipset refuses to function somwhere above 333 and starts working again somewhere in the range of 400-450 ... trouble with that is you need to go down to ~x7 with those fsbs which will severely reduce the cpus ability to clock itself down
my card is agp,
o/c is not neccecairy, just tell what mobo will be the best so i can order parts today
kiss me,

sorry to say that but I think you are in trouble if your graphic card is for AGP.There is probably none motherboard which would support C2D or AMD A64 X2 + DDR2 and AGP interface as well.

The asrock will be leaving the support with drivers if they not left already!

Jakg,Shootglas,
you can rule out all the motherboards you have suggested.

well, the gigabyte motherboards
the last 4...
but my pc chop is gonna look and else ill trade in my card for an pci-e 1
Ach.I completly forgot on these VIA chipset solution supporting both features.to be honest I have been having bad experiences with these cross sollution supporting both old and new features so I would not recomended them but if you dont have any other option then some of these 4.

I would still try to exchange the card for PCI-E version. Then the choice is much easier and you can have better stability as well.
Quote from DEVIL 007 :Ach.I completly forgot on these VIA chipset solution supporting both features.

isnt the via solution just pci with a different slot ?
yes it is but the VIA is not the company they have been in Socket A ages.IE KT133A,266 etc.
yay, going to get my new parts(or order) em this afternoon, in 1 hour,
i will get :
4gig ram(2x g.skill 2gig)
amd athlon 64 x2 am2 6000+
and a gigabyte mobo,
and offcourse some nice modding parts like a new mouse
Bit dumb too take 4gb if your processor isnt fast enough to handle it.
Very few processors can handle 4gb faster then 2/2,5 gb
will the intel E6600 handle it?
