Dual Boot/Dual Install
A quick query before I do anything drastic..
I have recently installed Vista (:eek as a dual boot option with my existing XP setup.
LFS is currently installed on my XP system, and I want to try it out on Vista again...
The problem is, if I install it on Vista and unlock it, will it then be locked on my XP option? Will I be able to have both unlocked so that I dont have to lose all my unlocks everytime I swap OS's?

Both OS's are running on the same computer, but on different drives (not simultaneously obviously )
I don't know if it will count as a different computer, but if it does, I think you should be able to swap the misc directories - ie. one for XP, one for Vista.
it will NOT be locked on ur XP install because of that.
u could have 10 different OS installs and there wouldnt be a problem.
if u have a seperate hdd, put it on the hdd that doesnt have ur windows on it, once its unlocked u can use on both O/s thats what i did
so recap

C drive has vista and XP
K drive has LFS other varous entertainment (porn) just unlock lfs and u can just make a shortcut under both os's
it runs well in vista if u have a decent machine, disable command queing on your hard drives and performance is on par with XP

OK...I tried this...
C: drive is Vista
E: drive is XP
F: drive has proggies and stuff...and NOW LFS

when running XP..no problemo..
when running Vista I get 'Could not create English File' and LFS is showing as locked
interesting, mine is fine
when u are in vista, right click on LFS.exe file click properties and click run it as admin and unblock if thats on there as well, thats why ur getting the english file error

if its still locked , unlock it again , you will be alrite, u get a few unlocks every month
bladey it is version W your trying right on vista, sounds like bad archive, or install , that error i had , i redloaded and was fine.
Did what Seinfield suggested, I created a shortcut to LFS W26 on my Vista desktop...unlocked it fine, then rebooted into XP..and it was locked again!

This was on the SAME copy of LFS..running it from the SAME folder...ie: didnt copy the whole lot from one drive to another...

I have just unlocked the XP version again...will try and see if the Vista side is still unlocked.

Just as a footnote...when I copied the whole folder under XP to update 1 copy to W26 etc, they are BOTH unlocked all the time...can switch between either copy with no probs...I can even get BOTH copies (W and W26 running at the same time on the same computer/OS...but not tried that online yet )
AFAIK it won't work, seeing LFS hashes (or does something) with the CD key (or unlock information of windows, but unlikely) of windows to create the unlock bit.

You will need two separate LFS folders/installations I am afraid. One for XP, other for Vista. Follow this scheme and you're safe (2 unlocks needed, one per OS). Both folder can coexist on one HDD even on one partition.

I'd consider sharing single LFS folder between two dual boot systems as risky with regard to locking troubles (big blocker) and filesystem access rights (avoidable). Unlock it once under XP then reboot into Vista and find your S2 locked again (and vice versa). Licence unlocking apparently seems to be somewhat a) HW specific and b) OS specific (licence key or whatsever). At least it behaved like that around S2 U/V version (examined by me in the past).
You need two seperate LFS directories, one for Vista and one for XP. Just unlock them both and it will work fine.

Edit: Too late...

Oh well...might give up on that idea then ...
I got enough hassle with 2 LFS installs on my main OS (downloading setups and skins and having to synchronise the two )..dont want to add even more

unless....anybody tried LFS running through WINE on Linux
use a nice batch script have an XPLFS and VISLFS batch files, which rename the misc folder then start LFS.
