Nascar Discussion
Great job by Montoya, McMurray runs out of gas right after the pit entrance with 2 laps to go.

EDIT: Obviously this thread turned into a rules discussion, so ill go with the changes.
:d
I tough He was going to wait until we forget about him.
At least he showed the world that he doesn't suck at nascar and BTW montoya was and i think is still a good GP racer
Infineon is one of the few (2?) non-oval tracks used in NASCAR so Montoya probably had no difficulties in turning left AND right at the same race after F1 career ^^
Spoiler alert!

This isn't televised till tomorrow night on UK terrestrial TV. Oh well.

lol, so much for live television, xD.
Anyways, ya i saw the race, I'm just glad montoya didn't run out of gas....
I'm not surprised, it was bound to happen. He'll take the race at Watkins Glen with no problem too.

Still, Congragulations to Montoya!
he wasnt all that fast at sears point, i figured that wouldnt be "his style" of track, i imagine he and tony will dominate watkins though.

All in all it wasnt a bad race, petty certainly added some color there in the first few minutes

"what the **** was that"
Ya montoya did good but he won mainly because Jaime Mcmurray ran out of fuel. Montoya had a hard time getting past McMurray until that fateful lap

Actually I'm more surprised that the other road course specialists didnt win.

This includes Boris Said, Marc Goossens, Ron Fellows, Butch Leitzinger, and P.J. Jones. (FYI these are not nascar regulars, but road course regulars).
What are you talking about? Montoya passed McMurray 5 laps before McMurray ran outta petrol.
I watched the highlights yesterday, was quite a good race. It was actually my first ever Nascar road race that I watched, I have never seen Nascar on a road course before. Must say the cars look so awkward and strange racing on a road course, they look so much better on the ovals
did you har his pit crew though, shouting all the time to save fuel, and he replied, I DON'T KNOW HOW
1st full NASCAR race i've ever watched. It was on during the day yesterday when i was off work sick! Fair play to Montoya, he drove well. One or two mistakes but i'd say those cars are quite a handful on a street circuit.

Oh w/e u know what I ment.

Ya not to be mean but I found that incredibly amusing. And yet he ended up first too LOL. Kevin Harvick was like "ummm I thought you told me he was short on FUEL!!!!"

Kyle Petty FTW!!!!!

Ringers have a hard time in Nextel Cup, just because the pit crews are so competitive nowdays. 4 tires and fuel in less than 14 seconds, and that with 5 lugs, 2 tire changers, and gravity fed fuel. Without a professional pit crew, you just loose sooooo much time on pit road its very very hard for those guys.

Excellent strategy and patience for the notoriously hot headed Montoya.

Good for NASCAR, bring back more Road Course Races!

Busch Series in Canada next month FTW!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I hope NASCAR take the cup to Hermanos Rodriguez and Canada, the fact that LS doesn't have a race would is a joke ... maybe Indy road as an F1 support event?

I doubt nascar would go to indy twice, and i doubt F1 or Nascar would want to support each other. If we added mexico and canada and kept glen and sonoma, i think 4 would be a good road course amount..for now, untill we get some real road courses in america (we have no big GP tracks)
NASCAR needs roadcourses that are fan friendly, for it to work in America. Sonoma is pretty good for specators, Glen isn't i imagine.

Indy wouldn't work, because NASCAR swamps the infield before its races. (It would be sweet though)
Why not try a race at VIR. That's where they do their testing. I just don't know how it is for spectators etc there.

actually watkins has some great spectator spots, there are two sides of the track that are "uphill" with a really good view, and its pretty racey all around, was one of my fav to watch, always sat near the top of the esses

VIR just doesnt have any "facilities" its more of a test track layout. maybe 10k seats whereas nascar needs 100k..that seems to be the main issue
Nascar's good on the road-courses, the Glen last year was great. I try to watch every road-course race, and if there were more I'd watch those too - but then I guess their target audience isn't exactly complaining about the current format, so it's not likely to change. Plus it would be a shame if the cars lost their oval focus in some way. They look like fish out of water on the road courses that need wrestling and man-handling the whole time, but that's probably why I like it.
NASCAR = Banger racing of real life. I enjoy seeing the hitting and spinning.

Not really. While the occasional last lap "spin-to-win" might happen at a short track, intentional spinning of an opponent will get you penalized.

As for contact, putting 43 1600kg cars with F1-levels of power and slicks no wider than our GTR's with less DF, on a track with 15-50 second lap times, makes contact inevitable.

As for being out of place on a road course, that's the beauty of the COT. Teams were using the same cars at Infineon that they ran at Bristol (.5 mile), and some of them tested at Daytona (2.5 miles)
