I'm sure it's been said many times before, but how about a small (5 litre?) V8 engined version of the XRR, with a soundtrack someting like this

Can't stand turbos!

I'd like to be able to use different but comparable engines in most LFS cars so I'd approve

5 litres is small? edit: even weirder, I just noticed I'm an "American" saying that to someone with a mini cooper in his avatar...

Well, my sentiment remains, any new car will be great; new car threads are just public daydreaming... as for the option to switch engines around...

Well, no Australian V8 at the moment has less than 5.7L, so yeah, you could say 5L is small But, seriously, anything less than maybe 3 or 4L is what I'd call a small V8. Hell, until 1966, F1 cars were running 1.5L V8s and V12s!

If you don't like turbos, maybe hit Shift+A for the sound editor and reduce the turbo noise as far as you can, because I don't see the XRR becoming a V8 anytime soon (having said that, the one engine LFS lacks right now is a killer V8 and I'd love to see one).

FZ series has 3.6 litres displacement.

I was thinking of the Panoz GT2 car (as in the vid). It is quite small compared to the Corvette and Saleen monsters. Has quad overhead cams (which is a bit un-American! ), but uses a cross-plane crank so makes all the right noises. It's power output should suit the GTR category perfectly, being around 500hp.

BTW, my Mini isn't even a Cooper (apart from the alloys!), just a plain vanilla 998.

A Wankel would definitly fit the XRR better, for a V8 we need a diffrent type and style of car, more like a 4-door sedan.

Why? The size and layout of the XR is not that far removed from a Panoz. That's why I suggested a 'small' V8. If you can fit one in a TVR....

Bleh, a 5 litre V8 isn't small.. The Rover V8 is a proper engine, and it's smaller than that. The original was 3500cm3. The DFV was 3000cm3. The DP1 has a 2.8 litre V8 which is made from two bike engines.

In the 70's Ferrari made a 2 litre V8. Moto Guzzi made a 500cc (yes, a tenth of what you call small) V8 - that can be put in a bike.

I hope that we get some proper yank tanks in LFS though

OK, OK! I meant small for an American V8 The Rover engine was definitely small and also borrowed from Buick, so that counts. The DFV, Ferraris and the twin-bike V8s dont as they're flat-plane cranks that sound like a pair of fours, although they could be an interesting alternative. More the merrier!

Well, the engines often are Chevy engines from the US. A lot of the cars are badge engineered, all GM cars are designed in one place in Detroit.

The V8 Supercar engine isn't even remotely Australian (despite the rule which prohibits other makes joining by forcing them to make the cars in Aus), it's a Chevrolet Aurora and the Ford engine is a Windsor one.
