Been wanting to get back into flight sims, but don't have a joystick. Guys, is a force feedback joystick really all that useful? Other than feeling the proper forces from resistance and other shakey bits that could save your plane, wouldn't just a decent spring non-ff joystick do fine in sims like LOMAC and IL-2? I want to get those 2 games, but not really digging the need to have a FF joystick for some reason. Just some normal Logitech joystick for $40. Because finally I have a nice PC to play LOMAC!

Will definitely get my hands on RBR too
Quote from StewartFisher :When not playing LFS I can be found playing Silent Hunter 4 (WWII US submarine simulation). Actually, I've not played SH4 in a while as I'm waiting for the next patch to come out. It was released in an appalling state (patch v1.1 was actually posted the same day the game was released!) but it should be something quite nice when v1.3 comes out.

It really makes me appreciate the LFS devs when I see how Ubisoft treat their customers.

LOL, heard about Test Drive Unlimited and especially Atari?

ive played almost evry sim of eny sort O_O my brother father etc, sim fanatics
Some screenshots from FSX, not sure if i'd call them blingy but each to his own.

Some of the VFR addons are stunning

Although Xplane is immensely impressive it seems as though FSX has stolen a bit of a march on it, but it's still a close run thing.

Regardless of physics i simply find sitting in an FSX VC cockpit really adds to the realism and is simply a nice place to be.
I'd be willing to give Xplane a fair shot, but a 60Gb full install aint ever gonna fit in my puter, and the five minute demo didnt really impress.
America's army, falcon 4.0.
Quote from DarkTimes :Oh, I wasted many a long night playing Falcon 4.0 back in the day, it was wonderful. I still count the first time I managed to land the plane one of my top gaming moments ever.

Talk about the first time I managed to refuel my Falcon in flight! I must have tried at least 20 separate times before making it! My dad (recreational pilot) was so pissed that I succeeded because he never managed to!
i used to have fun just landing and taking off. i had some good "guns only" dogfights as well...
Quote from shiny_red_cobra :MS Train Simulator!!!

I'm not into that sort of thin, but word on the street is that Trainz pwns MS Train Sim.

For Me, IL2 - 1946 is the stuff. That with the dynamic campaign generator is endless fun.
I have MS Train simulator. I got it for the kids. It's nothing really. Pretty boring.

Another one I got for the kids is 18 Wheels of Steel. I know there are some on LFS that play it. I saw LFS quite frequently mentioned on sites and forums for 18WoS. Mutt107 (I think), I specifically saw your name come up on some virtual trucking website talking about LFS. I thought, "Hey, I know that name from the LFS forum."
not a sim in the usual sense but still a sim and easily one of the most gorgeous games ive ever played

I'm kinda a simulator freak. For racing sims, I'm into LFS, GTR2, GTL, GPL, RBR.

For Trains, I have MS Train Sim and Trainz 2006. Trainz looks better and has alittle more features (e.g. engine control and a few other things), but MS Train Sim has actual routes. And the routes are longer and more involved. Plus I think MS Train Sim has a better selection of engines.

For Flight, I was a huge FS9 fan. So it's expected that I bought FSX (Deluxe Edition, of course). And now I'm finding myself dumping gobs and gobs of all my money into my computer just to get the damn thing to run it smoothly with sliders right (I've got a couple 8800Ultras to throw in when I get around to it)! I've also slowly am trying to get into Lock On. It's a cool game, once you get used to it and the controls. I got it with a three pack which included it, IL2, and Pacific Fighters. I have yet to play those, I guess I should. I also have MS Combat FS3, which I wasn't able to get to work when I bought it, so it's been collecting dust.

For War sims, I was a huge Operation Flashpoint fan. So of course, I had to get Armed Assault. But I've been having problems with it crashing, so I haven't been playing that much.

I also for some reason have Ship Simulator. Though it kinda sucks since you can't really do anything in it. I bought this because, like I said, I'm kinda a sucker for simulators.
Does Lock-On have Starforce on it? I remember reading it somewhere, so it put me off buying it.
I need a modern jet combat sim, so please say it doesn't.
WOW, did nobody notice how good that Google Earth FSX terrain/textures looked? *Downloading TileProxy*
Quote from farcar :Does Lock-On have Starforce on it?

LockOn itself doesn't, but the 'Flaming Cliffs' expansion does, and you will need that to play online as the vast majority of servers run that version last time i checked.
2-wheeled stuff floats my boat mostly. Games like SBK2001 & GP500.
Also play LFS of course and some GTR2 & GTL
No rFactor yet until the bikes get made, which reminds me.
Where's the 2-wheel physics for LFS?
Quote from Madman_CZ :I second that! An old game now but still very playable and quite challenging. Definitely worth a play! It has been one of my longest installed computer games.

Oh yeah, Screamers 4x4. I have that game. I haven't played that in a long time. But it's a very good 4x4 game.

Speaking of off-road games, I'm waiting for this to come out:

Virtual Sailor and Micro Flight.

Oh my God, Operation Flashpoint is up there with Deus Ex as one of my top games ever. This thread is bringing back loads of memories.
I've been using FSX a lot inbetween racing. I've been using an amazing free addon called Tileproxy, it allows you to stream high res satellite images from Google Earth , Yahoo and virtual Earth and it's absolutely stunning. I've been visiting places all over the planet where they have high res imaging and I'm hooked.

Here's a couple of videos I made, oh and you don't need a monster machine to make it run well either as there's no autogen bogging it down.
