Is it normal to floor it to get to the speed limit? Whenever I am driving my parent's cars (I don't have a car yet) I always floor it to get up to the speed limit. I always have to be first to attain the speed limit within a 1/4mi radius of myself. It's a little difficult to do in my parent's cars though. My dad has a little Saturn, which sounds like its going somewhere when you hit the gas, but then you realize that the Hummer next to you isn't even using half throttle and is still accelerating faster then you. My mom's car is a 2004 Honda Accord, of the 4 cylinder variety. Honda engines sound so gross when you rev them over 5000 rpm! The sound of air rushing into the engine is all you hear. At least the Saturn makes some noise.

But, I am always tense while driving the Saturn, because the steering and brakes are too mushy. When I drive my mom's Honda, I feel relaxed, and in control of the car. Honda sure does know how to make an economy car!
But, I still want a Camaro as a first car. Pfft, the little roadsters will pass me in the corners, but then I'll hit the gas, powerslide around the corner, and shoot by them on the straightaway, because that is how American cars win a road race (except for the C6R, which handles better then the Aston Martin in the rolex series, but doesn't do good on the straightaway). I will trade handling for raw V8 power any day.

You may ask yourself the following questions: "Is wheel4hummer high", "has phlos haxed wheel4hummers account". Truth is, it's 12:10AM here on the eastern coast of the US, and I have been awake for about 18 hours. I have started to go a little crazy, since I usually don't stay awake for this long without napping.
I will finish this thread by typing a list of things in which I would like to discuss in this thread:
  • Do you tend to floor it and then let off when you reach the speed limit?
  • How come American economy cars don't handle as well as Others?
  • Maybe the solution is too put an American engine in a Non-American car?
  • What are the affects of sleep deprivation, besides random postings in the OT sections of online forums?
  • Usually when you floor it to the speed limiter, it goes down by itself.
  • Because American economy class cars are crap.
  • w00t a v8 into a Lada would be killer!
  • Your thread

1) No, but I tend to get there quick. It's more economic they say...and more fun.
2) They suck.
3) see 2, repeat
4) You go blind.
You're lucky I was busy, I haven't slept for almost as much as you.

- No, you are driving a Saturn. You are lucky you don't scatter the car by going full throttle.

- American economy cars aren't junk, just plain old American cars are junk, especially the GM crap. You are correct, the steering and brakes on GM cars are mushy, absolutely no feel to them at all. I almost wrecked a new Chevy van I was testdriving because I had no idea when the POS was going to stop. Ford is a bit better, but still isn't near the quality of Toyota or Honda. It's simple, with American manufactures, quantity and $$$ comes first above all else including quality. How are the CEO's suppose to make their $30 million per year if they are worried about quality. Gotta get that production out! Go go go!!!

- What American engine? You are talking about a Saturn in your post... The Big Three hasn't built a decent engine since the very early 70's.

- I don't know. I don't have sleep deprivation. I'm up this late (or later) all the time. Usually only get 4 hours sleep a night.

Talking about cars.... This is the 21st century, for crying out loud. Isn't it about time we should be getting over 100 mpg with decent power in our cars without going to all this electric hybrid crap? They don't even do that good. I had a 1985 Ford Escort in high school and I got 35 mpg out of that thing. That was over 20 years ago, and they rave over the "fantastic" 30-35 mpg econoboxes being produced today, 20 years later....

Quote from Blackout :1) No, but I tend to get there quick. It's more economic they say...and more fun.

I don't think it is more economical. What would be more economical is to accelerate full throttle to maximum possible speed, then coast in neutral down to a near stop, then repeat. I saw on a tv show a LONG time ago where they did that with a Honda Civic (this is back in the late 80's I believe). They full throttled to 120 mph or something, then coasted down to 10 mph and was getting over 150 mpg.

And that's where I stopped reading. Good luck with that chunk of American CRAP as your first car
Quote from wheel4hummer :But, I still want a Camaro as a first car.

Are you sure your mullet will be long enough by then?
If I went full throttle from a stop light there would be a huge smoke screen, and then i would probably get a ticket. :P

Yeah, FWD cars are easy as hell to roast tires on
Quote from Slopi :Yeah, FWD cars are easy as hell to roast tires on

Not if you have traction control.
tc on an fwd ? thats like training wheels on a tricycle
Quote from Shotglass :tc on an fwd ? thats like training wheels on a tricycle

well it disables when you have the throttle wide open. But any other time it helps alot to keep one wheel from breaking free in corners... damn open differentials.
Quote from Roadie :But any other time it helps alot to keep one wheel from breaking free in corners

yeah ... dont you just hate when that happens while youre searching for something in your purse ?

Talking out of our ass are we?
Wheel4hummer, I dunno if it's been made clear yet, but you're driving like an idiot if you drive like that, and you're just asking for trouble.

And you wonder why, with threads like this

Short reply: US cars these days are, generally, crap, and not just the economy models. Who cares if they're fast in a straight line? Any halfwit hillbilly can make a car with no handling and a huge engine (Viper, anyone?). Your Camaro may be able to smoke them danged little roadsters on a straight section after they've owned you in the bends, but wait until a Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus - or even a slightly tweaked Skyline - smokes your lard-ass Chevy in both departments and you'll understand what a decent car is meant to be able to do. For my cash, pure straight-line grunt will always take second place to good handling. Straight lines are for people who don't know when to stop

Oh yeah, and don't make a habit of mashing your parents' cars. Drive your future Camaro like that and you'll end up in a friggin tree.

I don't know what you're talking about. How am I driving like an idiot? It's the ricers that are a hazard. I just like having a little bit of fun. I'm not a pussy, I am not afraid of crashing.

Quote from Hankstar :Drive your future Camaro like that and you'll end up in a friggin tree.

LOL! Drive like what? I don't think having some fun when no-one is around will teleport me into a tree. If your tires make a sound at all, then the cops can pull you over for reckless driving, which has up to a 12 month jail sentence.

My post was sort of a joke though. I don't floor it all the time, just when there is no-one around. I use my turn signal when I change lanes, stop completely at stop signs, and follow every traffic law. There is no law against flooring it to get up to speed as long as you are not endangering any property.

Quote :
§ 46.2-861. Driving too fast for highway and traffic conditions - A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who exceeds a reasonable speed under the circumstances and traffic conditions existing at the time, regardless of any posted speed limit.

I only go ~5 over the speed limit normally, and in the rain I go ~5 or more under. If it is a huge downpour, then I will go ~10mph below the speed limit if I cant see. Only problem is, alot of people around where I live still speed even in the rain.

Quote :
§ 46.2-852. Reckless driving; general rule - Irrespective of the maximum speeds permitted by law, any person who drives a vehicle on any highway recklessly or at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person shall be guilty of reckless driving;

I have never driven in a manner so as to endanger anything or anyone. Although I have almost run some guy over, because he thought it was a good idea to run across the middle of a 4-lane road where the speed limit is 45mph. Anyway, since he wasn't at a crosswalk, I had the right of way.

Quote :
§ 46.2-865. Racing; penalty - Any person who engages in a race between two or more motor vehicles on the highways in the Commonwealth or on any driveway or premises of a church, school, recreational facility, or business property open to the public in the Commonwealth shall be guilty of reckless driving, unless authorized by the owner of the property or his agent. When any person is convicted of reckless driving under this section, in addition to any other penalties provided by law the driver's license of such person shall be suspended by the court for a period of not less than six months nor more than two years. In case of conviction the court shall order the surrender of the license to the court where it shall be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of § 46.2-398.

I do not race, because that actually would be asking for trouble. But I just thought it was interesting that here in Virginia, USA, you can race on someones property if they give you permission.

Anyway, I am not guilty of any traffic violations by flooring it once in a while when there is no traffic.

Cemeteries are full of people with EXACTLY that attitude..

Do yourself a favour and grow up before you kill yourself....or anybody else!

Right of way DOES NOT equal Right to kill!
Quote from Bladerunner :Right of way DOES NOT equal Right to kill!

Sure it does! I was just kidding anyway.

Quote from Bladerunner :Do yourself a favour and grow up before you kill yourself....or anybody else!

So, what did I do that endangered the life of anyone? If I ever crash, I will only kill myself. I'm not like that ricer that came on here and said that he weaves through traffic. I am not an idiot, I know how the car works, how it handles, and whether or not I am doing anything lethal. Acceleration isn't dangerous, it's decelleration that is (:razz.

You people need to get a life and stop taking all of my posts so seriosly.
I can tell already that you are going to be a dangerous driver with that "i can do anything" attitude. Flooring it in order to reach the speed limit is unnecessary, impractical and dangerous. I'm worried that i have to drive on the same roads with people that think like you do. You're first car should be a Toyota Camry, not a Camaro.

Just a side note. Any sane racer would take handling and agility over brute power. Unless your definition of "racing" is that of a quarter mile piece of asphalt...

That's not my attitude at all. Where do you get that from?

Quote from ans7812 :Flooring it in order to reach the speed limit is unecessary, impractical and dangerous.

It's not like a ****ing Honda Accord is a sports car. Which would you prefer, being next to me while I floor it just to get to the speed limit when there isn't any traffic, or that getting cut off by an idiot ri ... t of traffic and speeding?

It was just a mockery of most American cars. The F-Body doesn't have terrible handling you know.

Theres the answer to your first question...
In response to your second, I would rather be far away from both of you.
