Theres the answer to your first question...

You took that completely out of context! Well, I am not afraid of crashing BECAUSE I DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE ME TO CRASH! Accelerating quickly DOES NOT ****ING MAKE YOU CRASH UNLESS YOU ARE A TERRIBLE IDIOTIC DRIVER!

  • Do you tend to floor it and then let off when you reach the speed limit?
  • How come American economy cars don't handle as well as Others?
  • Maybe the solution is too put an American engine in a Non-American car?
  • What are the affects of sleep deprivation, besides random postings in the OT sections of online forums?

- No, I dont even need half throttle in the AA Focus to do 40
- Ask you local car dealer?
- LS7 in a RX-7 has been done, but its no solution for your troubles
- You turn to stone
I fail to see how flooring it to 45mph will make me crash when there is no-one in front of me on the following section of Arlington Blvd, from the stoplight of Covington St. It is a slight downhill grade, and you can see the next stoplight from there.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f= ... amp;t=h&z=17&om=1

It is completely straight with no entrances onto the road. After about 8 seconds I am getting passed by everyone who is going 55mph down the road, and they don't signal.
Don't ever, ever say that you don't do anything that would cause a crash. You are NEVER prepared for everything that could happen. It's the fact that you would even do such a thing when it is not necessary. What happens if you're flooring it and one of your tires blow? Or you're flooring it and a little kid tries to get his big red ball that just bounced in the street? Or you're flooring it and an old grandma is backing out of her driveway but can't see past her shoulders? You quoted that other thread about the road rage guy but I think that it is YOU who should read it. You are turning in to him and will only cause trouble and danger in the future.

I don't think it is more economical. What would be more economical is to accelerate full throttle to maximum possible speed, then coast in neutral down to a near stop, then repeat. I saw on a tv show a LONG time ago where they did that with a Honda Civic (this is back in the late 80's I believe). They full throttled to 120 mph or something, then coasted down to 10 mph and was getting over 150 mpg.

Well, I can't see it really practical to go 200 km/h all the time.

But seriously, experts of economic driving and driving instructors say that you should try to achieve the desired speed rather swiftly because in a longer slower acceleration you will burn more fuel, of course it doesn't mean you have to go near flooring or redline, not at all. Once you reach the wanted speed you should use the highest possible gear and low revs to minimize fuel consumption, and when stopping you should only put your clutch down when just coming to a halt. But the key point to remember is to avoid stopping at all, because it's the acceleration which burns the most fuel. So if you see you might need to stop for lights, slow down and keep moving long as you can. This is what they basically say, but some of it might be a bit different with silly American cars, with their silly automatic gear boxes...oh and not even to mention huge lousy engines, huge weight and well, you got cheap fuel anyway...

But you drive a Japanese if I remember correctly?

Funny you should say that. My family owns a nursery where we grow shrubs, plants and trees that we use for landscape designs etc. and the drive out to the nursery is about 1 hour long along a highway with lights. Whenever we go out there or come back, we play a game and see how far we can make it without stopping the vehicle . It's quite fun and requires some strategy.
Quote from ans7812 :Don't ever, ever say that you don't do anything that would cause a crash.

THATS NOT WHAT I ****ING MEANT! I NEVER ****ING SAID THAT YOU IDIOT! I said that flooring it alone is not enough to cause a crash.

Quote from ans7812 :What happens if you're flooring it and one of your tires blow?

Same thing that happens if I am using half throttle and one of my tires blows at the same speed farther down the road.

Quote from ans7812 :Or you're flooring it and a little kid tries to get his big red ball that just bounced in the street?

What would a kid be doing playing ball near Arlington Blvd? That is the only road that I floor it on.

Quote from ans7812 :Or you're flooring it and an old grandma is backing out of her driveway but can't see past her shoulders?

There are very few residential driveways on Arlington Blvd (I can think of one). And, I think you forgot a key part I ONLY FLOOR IT UP UNTIL THE SPEED LIMIT! Why does flooring it make a difference? The light might as well have just stayed green, and then I would be going 45mph with no throttle when the person is backing out vs 25mph and full throttle when they are backing out. I think it is more dangerous had the light stayed green then if it turns red, and I floor it when it turns green. My reaction time could be a little slower then if my foot wasn't down all the way, but...

long reaction time + 25mph-0mph decceleraton < short reaction time + 45mph-0mph decceleration

So, flooring it away from certain stoplights when there are no cars around is not any more dangerous then if the light stayed green. And, I know that 1st gear goes to 45mph, which is the speed limit on Arlington Blvd, so it's not like I'm staring at the speedometer.
First of all, you did say that but I am just too lazy to bother myself with you and quoting it. Second of all, The fact that you are yelling like that supports my belief and secures it. And third of all, you have much more control when you are accelerating normally than when you FLOOR IT. Also, saying that "there are no driveways or kids around" it the absolute dumbest thing you can say. Basically you are implying that nothing out of the ordinary will come your way. I hope you get your Camaro and wreck it the next day.

Here: I found your quote just to make you feel even more stupid

"Well, I am not afraid of crashing BECAUSE I DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE ME TO CRASH!"
Quote from ans7812 :Also, saying that "there are no driveways or kids around" it the absolute dumbest thing you can say.

How? I am being serious! On the section of road which I floor it on sometimes, there really aren't any driveways! Look for yourself, I gave you the google map! Driveways don't just appear overnight you know. I have driven down this road hundreds of times. There aren't any entrances onto the sections of road which I floor it on. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT EVERY ****ING ROAD I DRIVE ON! I DO NOT FLOOR IT ON EVERY SINGLE ROAD! I'M NOT A ****ING IDIOT!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT IGNORANT ENOUGH TO THINK THAT THERE WONT BE ANY DRIVEWAYS OR KIDS AROUND NO MATTER WHERE I DRIVE!

ON THE SECTIONS OF ROAD WHICH I OCCASIONALLY FLOOR IT ON, I KNOW THAT THERE ARE NOT ANY DRIVEWAYS THAT GO ONTO THE ROAD. IF I DO NOT KNOW THE ROAD, OR THERE IS TRAFFIC, THEN I OBVIOSLY DO NOT TRY DOING ANYTHING THAT IS RECKLESS.

Quote from ans7812 :Basically you are implying that nothing out of the ordinary will come your way. I hope you get your Camaro and wreck it the next day.

That may be what you see in what I am typing, but it's not what I am trying to say. If I see a car turning onto the road, I take my foot off of the gas and hover over the brake. That's what I always do. I know that other drivers are idiots, so I think about the consequences of what could possibly happen.

Here is a scenerio that occasionally happens: I am at the stoplight of "Covington St" on the map, after making a trip to the supermarket (which I do alot). I am waiting at the red light, and there is no-one in the turning lanes trying to get onto Arlington Blvd. The nearest cars to me are like 1000ft away. So, I routinely floor it at that specific stoplight. However, I do not do that on very many other stoplights.

THERE REALLY ARENT ANY ****ING DRIVEWAYS ON THE SECTIONS OF ROAD THAT I FLOOR IT ON! DID YOU EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK AT THE GOOGLE MAP OF WHERE I ENJOY ACCELERATING QUICKLY WHEN IT IS SAFE?

I DO UNDERSTAND THAT SOMEONE COULD TRY JAYWALKING ACCROSS THE STREET. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT SOME IDIOT MIGHT TRY DRIVING THE WRONG WAY DOWN ARLINGTON BLVD. IF I DO CRASH, I WILL DIE AND NO-ONE ELSE WILL.

So you have never floored it at all in your car? You never press the gas more then 1/2 the way down? I do ****ing understand that driving a camaro is different then a honda accord. You just are trying to attack me anyway you can. So, I will attack you back. You are a douche bag.

DIE IN A FIRE
Relax. This is the internet.
Maaaaan you should relax a bit, take a pill or something.
Quote from Blackout :Maaaaan you should relax a bit, take a pill or something.

Care to suggest one?

Quote from ans7812 :Relax. This is the internet.

You relax, you are completely mis-understanding my words. I am not ignorant, I do not think that nothing bad is ever going to happen to me. I am not that naiive. I am scared of anything bad happening to me, that's why I would like to purchase a firearm when I am 18. And if I kill myself behind the wheel, then at least I had fun before I died.

Don't worry, if I ever met you in real life I have no doubt I would get my ass kicked. So I might as well curse at you through the comfort of my keyboard.
Oh christ. Don't even get me started on the firearm discussion. I will say this, a firearm is the LAST thing you should even think about owning.
Quote from ans7812 :I will say this, a firearm is the LAST thing you should even think about owning.

Why would that be? My attitude on this forum is alot different then it is in real life. I just get very pissed off at people sometimes. Not enough that I wan't to kill anyone, I just get angry enough that I wanna yell and curse at them.

Stick with a baseball bat beside your bed
Quote from ans7812 :Stick with a baseball bat beside your bed

But I'm really scrawny, and I wouldn't be able to hit someone that hard with a baseball bat. Just the presence of a gun would scare away the average criminal anyway.
I think thats a fleeting trend, actually. Seems these days most criminals are 'thugs' who have their own guns, and can probably whip it out and shoot you before you pull the trigger.

If someone broke into my house, and I had a gun, then I would point it at them and tell them to put there hands on their head and lay on the ground, until police arrive. But, if they reach for their pocket I would shoot them in the chest, and then duck for cover.

congratulations, you've gone from hurting someone in self defence to being a murder.
Off-topic conversation is ooooooooff-topic.

Lol @ wheel4hummer.

Our house was broken into a few months ago, but luckily (or maybe unluckily?) nobody was home, so nobody was hurt.
Quote from Jakg :congratulations, you've gone from hurting someone in self defence to being a murder.

No, NOT murder, you dumbshit. It would be justifiable homicide. Get your facts straight, or GTFO. **** you Jakg, **** you.
wheel4hummer - Please Calm down a tad. No need for all of the foul language (even if censored out)
