I actually always thought it worked the way haelje says. Meaning: if you drive a car that's below your licence-level, you get less points. So theoretically it wouldn't make a difference which server you were on. But now I'm not sure if that's the way it works. If it does, you would potentially get the same points on race1 and race2 if you drive the XFG f.e. .
I thought you'd get ZERO points if you race on a server below your license level. That way it inspires you to busy up the server where you hold the license! Also allows the people racing on the server where they have a license to get the points
That will change, but not until the single seater tier is fully open, both CTRA Race and CTRA Single Seater servers share the same algorythm and it didnt seem fair to hold single seater drivers whilst we're waiting for enough drivers for server 2 to open - which wont be long.
So it will change for CTRA race also, right? And will I still be able to score points when racing on race2 with XFG or XRG then? Or is the algorithm in fact car and not server based?
Have a look at the first screen from my post on page 6 - winner was a platinum racer getting 29 points Don't know whether that was the old algorithm tho (timestamped fyi)
Excuse me but I've not read every single post in this thread but I would just like to add the following:
At the moment the points system does appear to be a bit on the random side. To date I have yet to be able to find somewhere where the points system on CTRA is laid out, (and I have tried promise - everyone I ask seems to have no clue either).
I agree with the post where the comment was made that a lot of the fun is taken out of trying to achieve advancement in the system when people lower down the placings than you are getting more points, (and I'm talking drastically more points), or even worse getting points when you didn't.
I accept that the system is in effect also trying to weed out the levels in order to have a relatively consistant level of quality racing in each license level but personally I think this is achieved simply by putting the % of WR pace restriction on the handing out of points. In my opinion no further restrictions need to be used in order to limit the pace of drivers who progress. ie if you must be at least 106% of WR pace in order to score any points then by definition if you accumalate any points you are of a high enough standard to progress. The number of points needed are then just a case of trying to slow progression down (which is fair to a point) in order to encourage clean racing.
For what it's worth this is how I would allocate points, (and it would remain the same system across all license levels and servers):
Points only scored if AVERAGE race pace, (excluding start lap), is within X percent of WR for the combo as follows:
X = 107% (clubman or equivalent tin top licence)
X = 105% (National B or equavilent)
X = 103% (national A or equavilent)
X = 102% (international B or equivalient)
X = 101% (international A or equivalent)
Number of racers at the finish of the race = N
Points for first place = N/2
Points for finishing in each lower place = N/2-finishing position.
NB all rounded down to nearest integer.
Example:
11 people finish the race, points for placing are as follows:
1st = 11/2 = 5.5, round down to 5 points
2nd = 11/2 - 2 = 3.5, round down to 3 points
3rd = 11/2 - 3 = 2.5, round down to 2 points
4th = 11/2 - 4 = 1.5, round down to 1 point
Therefore automatically if you race alone you get no points, if you race with 1 other person max you will get is 1 point etc. All of course only if you're with a certain pace of the WR.
1 point for every place made up by passing drivers that actually finish the race. Passing drivers that crash out etc and do not continue racing will score no points over and above the points given for final placement.
2 points for breaking a pb in a race.
1 point for setting the fastest lap of a race (for that car ! - at least where cars are not of equivilent speed - for example FOX and FJR in the same race).
In this way the following are established/rewarded:
1) A minium pace must be achieved in order to progress, making the threshold an average will reward consistancy.
2) Placing in the top half of the field is rewarded progressively.
3) Absolute fastest pace is rewarded.
4) Race craft in terms of passing is rewarded, with a bias towards clean passing. For example if you ram someone off to pass no point will be rewarded as they likely as not won't finish the race.
5) Continuous personal improvement is rewarded.
